Bonus Round 7: Free For All

Free-For-All

Let's finish SASO 2017 with a bang. This bonus bonus round allows any kind of prompt imaginable in any format. The sky's the limit!

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with literally any kind of prompt, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms, with the following caveats:
    • Large image prompts should be thumbnailed and linked to, as explained here.
    • Fanart/fanfiction/fanwork prompts are only allowed if you created the fanwork yourself or if you have explicit permission to use it, and proof of permission must be linked to in your prompt header.
    • Quote prompts can come from almost anything, but please don't quote personal conversations you've had or overheard.
    • Reposting prompts is fine, but be respectful and keep crediting in mind. A prompt belongs to the person who posted it to this round, and who can fill it is determined by whether or not they are on that person's team.
      • If reposting a br2 (tic tac toe) prompt, please post each prompt square as its own individual comment. Posting tic tac toe boards wholesale will crash our br scorer and the bonus doesn't apply for this round, anyway.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Akira & Hikaru). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Akira/Hikaru). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Besides that, if you want to prompt something, regardless of format—even formats not previously allowed in SASO—go right ahead. If you're unsure you can ask us for clarification, but tbh just go for the gold.
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with a fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

It would have been kinder if Yukimura had killed him, Fuji thinks as he's dragged back to Akashi's palace on the back of one of Yukimura's horses. Yukimura's poisons are messing with his senses, and he's given up even trying to hold on to where he is or what's real and what's a product of his addled mind.

His thinking is still clear though, and it's hard not to consider his current predicament. He was favored by Akashi before, but Akashi set him a mission, and he failed. Akashi doesn't take kindly to failure; he takes even less kindly to failure when it comes from those close to him.

Akashi's retribution is as swift as expected. Yukimura's messenger dumps Fuji unceremoniously at the palace gate and disappears into the city without a trace. Akashi reads Yukimura's message, and anyone who is able finds reasons to avoid being anywhere in the vicinity of the emperor. Akashi orders all of Fuji's piercings removed and the two that sit in the hollow of his collarbone cut out. Some part of Fuji is grateful that Akashi didn't simply tear them all out in his anger.

A slow trickle of blood is still running down his chest as he's unceremoniously shoved into what he believes is his old room. He clings to the wall as his shuffles around the perimeter. He must be most of the way around the space before he runs into resistance at his ankles. He still can't see anything. He can't even feel whatever is on the floor clearly, but he assumes it is to be his bed. He hopes sleep will clear the worst of the poisons from his body.

He wakes some time later to a moment of relative clarity. The room is still distorted and hazy around him, but it's clear enough he can see the dawn light just creeping in through the window. All of the previous furnishings of his room are gone, replaced with the worn mattress and a bucket in the corner. He wants to test the door to see if it's locked, but vertigo and weakness strike when he's only halfway across the room and force him to the floor.

The message is painfully clear: this isn't like last time when Akashi ordered his servants to attend Fuji's every need and cared for him himself as Fuji's body warred with the poisons Akashi wished to desensitize him to. This time, he has lost the emperor's favor, and no help with be forthcoming; whether Fuji lives or dies will be determined by his body and his strength alone.

When he next regains consciousness, he's lying back on his mattress with no recollection of having moved there. His hand is closed around a stale crust of bread, and he forces himself to eat it, even if it seems to turn to dust in his mouth. Then the cramps hit, and he curls in on himself trying to will his body not to reject the little food he's given it.

He loses track of how long he cycles between unconsciousness and strange, poison-induced hallucinations, but sometimes he finds a scrap of food or half-empty cup of water by his bed when he emerges into a moment of clarity.

He finally wakes one day with his head feeling clear for the first time since Yukimura had poisoned him, but when he sits up, his head pounds, and his body is wracked by violent shivers. He lets his head fall forward and recoils in horror when he sees the angry lines of infection spreading across his chest in a starbust. He dips the hem of his robe in the scant water he has left and tries to clean the weeping wound, but even the gentlest touch leaves him shaking as his vision goes grey, and he has to lie down again.

The smell of spirits burns his nostrils as pain blossoms across his collarbone. He jerks away, but a hand covers his mouth before he can make a sound and another holds him still. He's too weak to struggle against even that light hold.

"Shhhhh," a voice hisses, and then he's pressed more firmly against the ground as stinging pain burns over his chest. The pain is the only constant as he fades in and out of consciousness until that too fades and a rough cloth forces a trickle of water into his mouth and wipes the sweat from his forehead.

"I was never here," his savior whispers before departing.

The stranger returns in the dead of night, and Fuji can't make out anything beyond the rough shape of a heavy cloak. A cup of bitter willowbark tea is pressed to his lips, and he braces himself as the stranger turns their attention to his chest.

The same scene plays out again the following night, and by the next morning, the infection finally begins to clear, and Fuji's fever breaks. He takes stock of himself in the morning light: he's covered in scrapes and bruises that are still healing, his ribs stand out sharply under his skin, his hair is matted, and his robe dirty from however many days he has been wearing it, but he's completely lucid for the first time since his return.

He's a bit shaky as he makes his way to the door, but it opens easily enough for him, as he suspected it would. He takes a moment to run his fingers through his hair and resettle his robe as best he can before he steps out into the hallway.

He knows where he has to go. He doesn't even stop at the baths before he makes his way down the long hall to Akashi's throne room. He's already failed Akashi once. It will be a long, slow climb back into the emperor's good graces, and he knows his every move will be scrutinized. To stop at the baths first, or even to linger in his room for a few more hours until he regained more strength would be to put his own desires above those of the emperor, and in doing so, he would forfeit whatever slim chance he had of ever regaining Akashi's favor.

No, he will present himself to Akashi as he is, making no attempts to conceal his current weakness, and he will take responsibility for his failure. He can only hope the show of loyalty will be enough for the emperor.
