Bonus Round 2: Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Get three in a row! That's the goal of this bonus round. Inspired by a fanwork event type called kink bingo, this round encourages you to create and fill out themed prompt cards.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. There's a lot of text here, but if you read carefully and follow the instructions step by step, you will be okay.

RULES
Please refer to the first comment thread of this post for an example of how this round works.

PROMPTING

  1. Select a ship to create your prompt card about. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Haruki & Kazuma). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Haruki/Kazuma). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

  2. Visit this card generator.
    • Here is a visual guide to using it.
    • The large text box is where you can list prompts if you have your own ideas. Please list at least 9 prompts; you can list more if you want. (The generator says you need at least 24, but it's lying.) Single words or short phrases are better than sentences.
    • Otherwise, you can use the dropdown menu found right below it. Note: some of these prompts lists are NSFW. (NSFW prompts are a-ok as long as you tag for it.) If you don't like some of the options that appear in a prompt list, you can delete them.
    • Text prompts only, please. Also, each card square must be unique—don't list the same prompt 9 times.
    • In "Configuration Options," make sure you select 3x3 and (Normal prompt). This is the most important step!
    • Leave the tic-tac-toe card with its default colors, so everyone can read it clearly.
    • Click the "Create a bingo card" button.
    • Scroll down to see the card that was created for you. If you don't like the prompts it picked, you can reroll by clicking "Create a bingo card" again.
    • When you're satisfied, scroll further down the page until you see a textarea box full of HTML.
  3. Copy and paste the HTML from the box and into the body of your prompt comment, then post!

FILLING

Fill prompts by selecting an individual square to create fanwork for, then leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. (Optional:) If you can fill three squares from a prompt in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, you get a tic-tac-toe (and an additional point bonus)! You can also just fill prompts as you please and get standard points.
  • Prompt squares are labeled as follows:
    A1 B1 C1
    A2 B2 C2
    A3 B3 C3
  • If you're trying for tic-tac-toe, you cannot combine squares into one fill. If your fill can satisfy multiple squares, pick the most relevant square: e.g., one square is sailing and another is pirates and you make a fill about pirates sailing, it's mostly pirates so put down the pirates square.
  • Each fill must stand alone as an individual piece, but all your fills can slot into a larger universe if you'd like.
  • You cannot fill a prompt square more than once, but you can fill every square on a tic tac toe card if you want to.
  • You cannot work with your teammates to get a tic-tac-toe. Only individually achieved tic-tac-toes get the bonus.
  • Multiple people can fill the same prompt square. You cannot "block" others from getting tic-tac-toe.
  • Remember to also follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points for each tic-tac-toe card (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each
Tic-tac-toe Bonus: 2 points each for the first 12 achieved by your team

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Atsumu knows he’s asking for it when he throws himself down on the bar stool, props his chin up on one hand and reaches to knock back a sip of Osamu’s highball. He does it anyway. For Osamu, he even finds a smile more brilliant than all the pulsing strobe lights on the floor, and the smoke that swirls around them cannot hide Osamu’s face from him.

“Aren’t you having fun, Samu?”

“Oh, I’m having so much fun,” says Osamu, prying his drink out of Atsumu’s hand. “Watching my brother pick up guys—”

“And girls—”

“Please. The girls are trying to pick you up.”

Atsumu laughs. “You were watching.”

The look Osamu gives him doesn’t need words. Atsumu spins his seat round in a slow circle, leans back on his elbows and taps his foot to the music, restless.

What Osamu doesn’t know (or maybe he does) is that Atsumu, too, has been watching; that he has been chasing shadows all night long. At the back of his throat, the whiskey burns like sandpaper. He’s never been as good as Osamu, when it comes to holding his liquor. He’s never been as good as Osamu, when it comes to keeping things in, and so his arm shoots out and he grabs hold of Osamu, leaps off the stool and starts moving before his brother can object.

“Come on. Let’s dance.”

Tsumu, I don’t—”

“Not with strangers, okay? With me. Hey, it’s our song!”

“We don’t have a song,” Osamu points out, flatly.

Atsumu grins. “Then this one’s ours.”

And as Atsumu says this, here in the centre of the dancefloor where their secrets are safe, his hand slides down Osamu’s wrist and he laces their fingers together, surely, surely, just like Osamu used to clasp his hand when Atsumu woke in a cold sweat from a nightmare.

Osamu’s sigh is like breathing. So is the rhythm that they lose themselves in.

Once, Atsumu would have hated all these eyes on them. He would have hated it, not because he disdains the attention but because he knows, in his heart of hearts, that Osamu is the better dancer, and when people see them like this, his hands on Osamu’s hips and the way they fall into step with each other, they can never quite hide their surprise that it is Osamu who leads.

Now—and Osamu would call him childish for it, he knows, but he doesn’t care—

He has learned to love surprises. To revel in their differences, every last beautiful, dangerous one.

The music slows, settles into a lush beat that leaves whispers lingering in the air. Osamu’s arm winds its way round Atsumu’s shoulders. He presses his cheek to his, rests there for a moment that melts like honey in the heat of the club, like ice exhaling.

Atsumu can’t help the little smirk that finds its way onto his face, and the rush of blood to his head is more intoxicating than any drink he’s had tonight.

AH THANK YOU SO MUCH i would definitely recommend percy jackson it's such a cute series, and it was fun to write with kagehina because the whole setting really fits their dynamic

also i love the idea of Son of Aphrodite tobio bc i feel like he gets his true strength from his relationships with other people? i wasn't sure about hinata, maybe apollo (the whole sun motif) or maybe one of the minor gods that don't get much attention (but he rises up anyway, of course!)

I think this is going to be a few one-shots in this AU. We'll see.

***

Kazuya walked into the bar and headed straight towards the bartender, hoping against hope that this would be the place he’d find his answers.

“Hey, Kazuya,” she said, plopping a shot glass on the bar top and filling it from the special bottle she kept behind the bar. She looked over his shoulder at the door. “Where’s your sidekick?”

Kazuya picked up the glass and downed it. “I don’t know; that’s why I’m here. I was hoping he’d been by or you’d heard from him.”

She shook her head. “Nope, nothing since you boys were in here last month. What happened?”

“I don’t really know.” Kazuya shrugged. “I just woke up and he was gone, I’m not sure where he went off to.”

“Were you guys fighting?”

“Not any more than usual, you know how Mochi and I are.” Kazuya picked up the second shot and stared into it, not sure if he wanted any more alcohol in his system.

Kuramochi had disappeared last Wednesday, five days ago. The angel had learned a lot in the last few years accompanying Kazuya on his hunts, but he was still not quite worldly enough for Kazuya not to worry about. There weren’t many of their acquaintance that knew Mochi was an angel, that was a secret they worked hard to keep, but it made it harder to look for him when nobody could understand why he was worried.

“Yeah, I do. I don’t know—you want me to make some calls, see if anyone’s seen him?”

“If you don’t mind, Haruno, that would be great.” Kazuya sipped at his shot, wanting to make it last.

“You mind the bar for me and I’ll be right back.” She slipped under the pass through and handed Kazuya the bar towel. “And don’t let Toujou down there convince you to give him another beer, he’s been cut off.”

Kazuya heard a loud groan from the end of the bar and waved at his friend. “Sorry, boss’s rules.”

“That woman’s going to be the death of me,” he sighed into his club soda. “I don’t know why I put up with it.”

“You love her.” Kazuya wiped at the bar.

“For my sins, yes.” Toujou went back to nursing his drink and Kazuya dealt with the few customers that needed service.

Thirty minutes later, Haruno emerged from the back with a post-it note in her hand. “He was seen yesterday down south, near Seido.”

“Seido? What would he be doing…?” Kazuya cut off as he realized exactly what Mochi would be doing down there. Dropping a quick kiss on Haruno’s cheek, he ducked out of the bar area. “Thanks, Haruno, you’re a peach!” Grabbing his jacket, he exited the bar and climbed behind the wheel of his car. “Come on, baby, let’s go. We’ve got a long drive ahead of us.”

He knew he needed information as quickly as possible, there were quite a few things in Seido that would love to get their hands on an angel, and Kazuya had no idea what he’d gotten himself into. Pulling into the province a little before midnight, he knew what he was going to have to do.

He went down to the crossroads.

Pulling the bone of a black cat and graveyard dirt from his trunk and a photo from his bag, he put them in a box. He trudged to the very center and dug a hole, burying the items and stepped back to wait.

“Hey, how can I help you?”

Kazuya spun at the words and saw a man, gold eyes gleaming in the dark. He’d heard of the yellow-eyed-demon, but he didn’t know of a golden-eyed one. “Wait. Don’t you guys usually have red eyes?”

Gold eyes rolled at him. “You’re joking, right? You believe all those stories...Miyuki Kazuya?”

“You know my name.” Kazuya squinted at him.

The demon grinned at him sunnily. Kazuya blinked. He’d expected seduction, temptation, not sunshine.

“Of course, I know every person who’s played professional baseball for the last twenty years.”

Kazuya felt his eyes widen. “Wait.” He held up his hand. “You know I played baseball? This doesn’t make any sense.”

“It seems like we’ve gotten this off to a bad start, please let me try again.” The demon cleared his throat and bowed a little. “My name is Eijun, thank you for summoning me. How may I assist you, Miyuki Kazuya?”

“I’m looking for a friend.” Kazuya started.

Eijun looked a little dubious. “I’ve never had anyone looking for a friend before, it seems like a strange wish, but sure, I’ll be your friend!” He grinned. “We can play catch! You can catch for me!”

“No, no.” Kazuya shook his head. “I mean, I’m trying to find someone, and I thought you could help.”

“Oh! That’s different. I can help you with that.” Eijun deflated a little. “Does that mean you don’t want to be friends?”

“Let’s start with the finding and see how it goes, okay?”

“Yes!” Eijun pulled out a black book from his pocket. “The cost of finding a person is...six hundred catches.”

“Six hundred...catches?” Kazuya floundered some more. “Not ten years and my soul?”

“Seriously, do you believe everything you read? Remember, history is written by the victors.”

“You’re not collecting souls.” Kazuya deadpanned.

Well, not yours. Not right now.” Eijun hedged. “Do we have a deal?”

“Can I have some time to pay? I don’t know if I can do that tonight and with my knee, I can’t catch for long.”

“You’re right!” Eijun proclaimed, resting his finger on his chin. “Okay, you have a year. In the course of a year, you have to catch for me six hundred times.”

“That’s fine, I can do that.” Kazuya agreed.

“Okay, then.” Eijun was suddenly right in front of him. The demon was an inch or so taller than he was, Kazuya’s brain noticed idly, while Eijun’s hand hooked under his chin. He leaned in and Kazuya’s brains shut down when he felt the press of soft lips to his. The kiss seemed to go on for a bit before Eijun broke it, straightening up. Kazuya fumbled for his snark.

“I thought you didn’t do traditional?”

“We don’t have to; I just really wanted to kiss you.”

Kazuya sighed. He didn’t know if Eijun was an idiot or really smooth, but he was thinking the former. Hoping the former. If it was the latter, he was screwed.

“Is there anything else we need to do?”

“Nope, just tell me who you’re trying to find.”

“Kuramochi You—”

Eijun cut him off. “Mochi-senpai is missing? Why didn’t you say so? I didn’t know you were the human he’d been hanging around with, when did he disappear?”

“Wait, you know Mochi?”

“Fallen angel, remember? Accent on ‘angel’?”

“Oh, yeah. Right.”

“Anyway, what happened? Last I heard from him he was fine hanging out with you.”

“You speak...never mind, I don’t know if I want to know.” Kazuya rubbed his eyes. “At least it makes the explanations shorter. I think he’s looking for Ryou. We got word that Haruichi was down here and I think he left to find him.”

“He didn’t tell you where he was going?”

“Not that I could find, but he’s got an odd sense of what’s obvious, so who knows?”

“Haruichi was here, but he left a week or so ago. If Mochi-senpai came down this way, he’d have figured that out. So we just need to go to where Haruichi is and see if he made it. If not, we’ll come back here and find out what happened.”

“Wait, we?”

“Yeah. I’m coming with you. I need to protect my catching investment.”

“Really?”

“No.” Eijun laughed and explained. “He’s an angel; I can’t find him like I can a person. Plus, I’m worried about him, he’s my friend. I’m coming with you. “

“You can just leave the crossroads untended?”

“Yeah, it’s fine. Chris-senpai wants us to do more community outreach and it’s not like I’m super busy anyway. If someone does come, I have a pager; I can get back here in a matter of seconds. When you called, I was at a Yankees-Mets game. Subway series, there’s nothing like it.” Eijun’s eyes grew unfocused as he gazed into the distance.

“Alright, then.” Kazuya finally found his ‘just roll with it’ button. “Get in the car; we’ve got a ways to go.”

Square: you need to stop eating flowers (you'll never bloom)
Word Count: 425

***

It doesn’t help him. Tatsuya knows it doesn’t, and yet, he’d gotten into the habit, the old wives’ tales of eating flower to make your wild magic bloom. Maybe it works; maybe it doesn’t; it’s irrelevant when you have no connection to the natural world, no ability to create and nurture life with your own hands.

Tatsuya has magic, but he rarely shows it; he can create an ice storm large and terrible enough to raze a forest if he wants; he can destroy, trap and petrify and freeze out. He cannot make grass sprout, flowers bloom, sweet-tart cherries grow fat at the end of what was once a blossom. There is nothing organic and pure in his veins, nothing green and lush that flows and rolls, the sweet smell of comfort.

Atsushi makes them for him, even though he says they’re for decoration; he hadn’t started until he’d noticed the plastic pots, soil dumped into the garden, washed up and piled by the sink to be recycled, from the cheap geraniums Tatsuya buys at the corner store. Tatsuya had seen him looking, but he hadn’t said anything; the next day there had been daisies and clover sitting in one on the kitchen table. Tatsuya had eaten them for breakfast, picking pieces of clover out of his teeth the rest of the day.

Atsushi mixes it up, pansies and peonies and petunias, lilies and daffodils and narcissus, tulips and roses and carnations. Once he even leaves a bush of hydrangeas that lasts Tatsuya a week. It doesn’t help; it’s almost like a cruel taunt that Atsushi’s large, rough hands can create things like this, delicate, crunching wet and juicy in Tatsuya’s mouth, soft on his tongue. Tatsuya’s fingertips are still dull; when he concentrates there’s only the familiar sting of the cold. The stem in his hand stiffens and breaks, and Tatsuya stuffs it frozen in his mouth, ignoring the hot bitterness of the tears behind his eyes.

He needs to stop; it’s an addiction; his mind is hardwired to pluck from a vase, from a garden, from a park, to eat and eat but never be full. People call Atsushi a glutton, but Tatsuya’s the one who takes and takes, trying to fill the bottomless chasm of terrible magic inside him, high enough to transform it into something good and useful. It won’t work; it doesn’t help. He needs to stop. He’ll never bloom, but sometimes at night he dreams of it, Atsushi’s hands forming stems and his own sprouting thorns and leaves.

Kuroo bounced on the balls of his feet and stared out the window, trying to put the fact that Karasuno was playing Inarizaki right now out of his mind. He hadn't wanted to watch, even though the rest of Nekoma was there. It just felt like he was dooming himself to disappointment, but at least Kenma had come back to their rooms with him. There just wasn't room in his brain to consider Nekoma playing anyone other than Karasuno in the next round. Not even with Inarizaki being the odds-on favorites, it didn't matter. Nekoma had won their match that afternoon and made it through to the third round, so Karasuno had to, too. Any other scenario was unacceptable.

Kenma was sitting cross-legged on his futon and messing with his handheld, the clack of his fingers on the controls the only sounds in their ryokan, not counting the whir of Kuroo's thoughts. He faintly recognized it when Kenma's playing started to falter and slow down, and the next time he glanced in Kenma's direction, he was giving Kuroo a dirty look.

"You don't have to say anything!" Kuroo said, throwing his hands up. "I know I'm being annoying."

Kenma narrowed his eyes a little more. Then he sighed, and patted the spot next to him. "What's the deal?" he asked, as Kuroo sat down.

"The team's just really close now. Closer than I thought we'd get," Kuroo confessed. He'd been trying so hard to be the confident captain, the heart to Kenma's brain. It felt disloyal to admit out loud that he thought his last season would already be over by now.

"Well," Kenma said pragmatically, "we did only get into Nationals by the skin of our teeth."

Kuroo smiled at that. "Thank god for host cities," he said. "Aren't you worried about Hinata? I know you want to play him for real."

Kenma shrugged. "I do. But there's nothing I can do about Shouyou. It's not like I can mind control Karasuno into winning."

"We should try!" Kuroo scrambled around until he was kneeling in front of Kenma, so he could put his fingers on either side of his head. He rubbed circles into Kenma's temples. "Make Karasuno win. Make Karasuno win. Hinata, don't miss stupid jumps. Tsukki, don't regress into a lazy loser. The power of Kenma's brain compels you."

It was then that Kuroo realized that Kenma had gone completely still, and he was barely breathing. It was also then that Kuroo realized that he still had his hands on Kenma's face, that they were alone, and that they were really close together. Kuroo felt a rush of heat to his face and he dropped both hands to his sides.

"Uh," Kuroo said articulately. He swallowed, then managed a choked out, "Sorry."

Kenma dropped his game then, circled his fingers around both of Kuroo's wrists, and tugged them back to his face again. Then he tilted his face up and waited.

Kuroo drew in a shaky breath as he traced Kenma's jaw with his fingertips. He tucked Kenma's hair behind his ears, and ducked his head until their mouths were nearly touching and he could feel Kenma's breath against his lips. "Is this okay?" he asked, and Kenma let out a low chuckle.

"Just do it already," he murmured.

Kuroo did it already. Kenma's mouth was warm and soft, and he seemed to know that Kuroo would like it when he grabbed his jacket to pull him closer. He was the one to slide their tongues against each other, and suck on Kuroo's bottom lip, and Kuroo was left dazed, wondering where Kenma had learned all that without Kuroo knowing.

Maybe he was just a natural. Kenma was amazing like that.

When they finally broke apart, Kuroo's eyes fluttered open and it took him at least a minute to catch his breath. "Wow," he said finally. "God."

Kenma smiled a small, secret smile, the kind that – not to be cliché – looked like the cat that got the cream. A minute later, his phone buzzed with an unread message.

We WoN!!!!!!!!!!!!1 it read, and then Kuroo's phone started blowing up with texts, too: Yaku, Kai, Bokuto, Sawamura, even Tsukishima. He felt even more dazed because The Battle of the Trash Heap was really, truly finally happening. The old man would be so happy. Kuroo was so happy.

"Maybe I do have mind control powers," Kenma mumbled.

Kuroo let out a huge laugh, bright and delighted, and was still laughing when Kenma kissed him again.

He really can't be blamed for this.

Hachioji liked to consider himself strong of heart. He wasn't easily swayed by underclassman who whined to try and cut practice short, or who didn't want to study up on standard rugby formations. He could handle all of his classes, even his art credits, which he wasn't very good at. He could even manage not openly staring at Sekizan's naked back when he changed even though he could.

But when Sekizan would tilt his head just so, letting the afternoon sun catch his cheek and cast a shadow on his sturdy jawline, goddamn. Seeing that strong, steady line as sturdy as his voice was a distraction and a half, and it took all of Hachioji's strength to not drag him out of practice to kiss him.

He doesn't even have a thing for a sturdy jawline. Or at least he didn't, but right now he's mapping the trail from Sekizan's ear to his chin in drawling kisses as he listens to Sekizan's breath hitch and now he doesn't even know what to think anymore. So he tries not to - Hachioji focuses on the way there's still a taste even though they both just showered, the feel of Sekizan's skin growing hotter with each passing kiss and how cool the cotton of his uniform shirt was against his cheek. It sates the hunger in him that was screeching in the back of his head throughout practice, throughout changing, up until the last member of their team left the locker room and Hachioji could finally have Sekizan all to himself and pinned up against the lockers.

"Hachioh, ah, Ha--" Sekizan was trying to say something, hands fisted in his shirt giving a soft tug, but Hachioji wasn't about to stop. Not when he had the other side of his face to learn under his lips, or when Sekizan's cheeks were such a delightful shade of red.

"Mutsumi."

It was like a bolt of lightening, crashing white hot down his spine and making him jolt back from his jaw in surprise. Sekizan hadn't called him by his first name before, even though Hachioji had told him he totally could, if he wanted to.

There was a second of silence as Sekizan pulled in a breath, pulling his words together. "Let's go to my house."

Lightening shock turned into a soothing fire, and Hachioji grinned.

bingo! AND IM SORRY I KEEP REPOSTING BUT IM GETTING NERVOUS AS I REALIZE I PUT THE WRONG SQUARE IN MY HEADER AND REPOSTING LMFAO

he honestly didn't know what to expect when hachioji invited him over to his house this time.

"my parents took my brothers to visit family out of town, and my sister is so busy, i pretty much have the house to myself. but it's weird with just me." he said, giving sekizan a smile that felt more trickster than sweet. "so do you wanna spend the night at my place?"

he said yes, of course, but not without some trepidation. it was probably fine, but sekizan still worried that hachioji might expect something, something sekizan isn't ready for, given what their relationship has blossomed into as they move well into their second year together. he tried not to think about it, at least not too hard. maybe it would be a good thing if something happened, maybe it would be fun, but anytime he imagines hachioji and him moving further than the kissing they've slowly but surely grown accustomed to, he feels like he might start shaking.

it shouldn't feel like so much, but it does.

when he arrives, nothing feels different, and sekizan forces himself to try and relax the way he always does at hachioji's house. they can talk about rugby up in his room around the low table, talk about planning special drills for the first years and ideas for game plans over snacks just like they always do. there's nothing to get strung up about. the only difference is that they're alone in the house, that's all.

"are you okay?" hachioji asks, because of course, of course he notices the tenseness in his back.

"i'm fine." sekizan says because he is, really. hachioji needs to stop looking so unimpressed. "we should look up those agility drills you were talking about, i think something like that could help everyone."

"hold on, let me just, get those from you first--" hachioji reaches out, and sekizan moves just so he can get the chocolate.

except of course hachioji isn't going for the food, he's going for sekizan, fingers going to his sides and starts tickling his sides. or at least, tries, because he just sits there and stares at him as hachioji slowly comes to a stop, hands now awkwardly on sekizan's sides.

"uh. so you're, not ticklish, huh?"

"no..." sekizan watches hachioji turn red and embarrassed, and suddenly it occurs to him; "but you are, aren't you?"

"what, no, i just-- ack!!" sekizan doesn't let hachioji finish that thought, diving right in to tickle hachioji back, and of course hachioji starts laughing hysterically, doing everything he can to squirm away from him, falling back onto the ground as sekizan chases him with his hands.

"stop it, no fair!" hachioji barely manages through his giggles, but manages enough for hachioji to get a chance to sit up and smash a messy kiss on his cheek that turns into a big fat raspberry. "how are you not ticklish!"

sekizan can't stop laughing either, feeling more warm and relaxed than he has all day. "i don't know, i just am?" he tries to give hachioji a kiss, but misses and ends up kissing his hair above his ear. that just makes hachioji laugh harder, and they try to kiss but it only ends up a smash of mouth on mouth, both of them laughing too hard for it to really be anything more.

"not fair at all, you must be ticklish somewhere."

sekizan rests their foreheads together, still laughing. "i don't think so."

"well, i guess it doesn't matter now since you finally don't look like you've got something stuck up your ass." sekizan freezes up again, but hachioji snorts and ruffles his hair. "but i'll find you out one day, just you wait."

"okay." sekizan says, and tries not to laugh again before hachioji comes up with another plot.
