Bonus Round 2: Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Get three in a row! That's the goal of this bonus round. Inspired by a fanwork event type called kink bingo, this round encourages you to create and fill out themed prompt cards.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. There's a lot of text here, but if you read carefully and follow the instructions step by step, you will be okay.

RULES
Please refer to the first comment thread of this post for an example of how this round works.

PROMPTING

  1. Select a ship to create your prompt card about. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Haruki & Kazuma). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Haruki/Kazuma). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

  2. Visit this card generator.
    • Here is a visual guide to using it.
    • The large text box is where you can list prompts if you have your own ideas. Please list at least 9 prompts; you can list more if you want. (The generator says you need at least 24, but it's lying.) Single words or short phrases are better than sentences.
    • Otherwise, you can use the dropdown menu found right below it. Note: some of these prompts lists are NSFW. (NSFW prompts are a-ok as long as you tag for it.) If you don't like some of the options that appear in a prompt list, you can delete them.
    • Text prompts only, please. Also, each card square must be unique—don't list the same prompt 9 times.
    • In "Configuration Options," make sure you select 3x3 and (Normal prompt). This is the most important step!
    • Leave the tic-tac-toe card with its default colors, so everyone can read it clearly.
    • Click the "Create a bingo card" button.
    • Scroll down to see the card that was created for you. If you don't like the prompts it picked, you can reroll by clicking "Create a bingo card" again.
    • When you're satisfied, scroll further down the page until you see a textarea box full of HTML.
  3. Copy and paste the HTML from the box and into the body of your prompt comment, then post!

FILLING

Fill prompts by selecting an individual square to create fanwork for, then leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. (Optional:) If you can fill three squares from a prompt in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, you get a tic-tac-toe (and an additional point bonus)! You can also just fill prompts as you please and get standard points.
  • Prompt squares are labeled as follows:
    A1 B1 C1
    A2 B2 C2
    A3 B3 C3
  • If you're trying for tic-tac-toe, you cannot combine squares into one fill. If your fill can satisfy multiple squares, pick the most relevant square: e.g., one square is sailing and another is pirates and you make a fill about pirates sailing, it's mostly pirates so put down the pirates square.
  • Each fill must stand alone as an individual piece, but all your fills can slot into a larger universe if you'd like.
  • You cannot fill a prompt square more than once, but you can fill every square on a tic tac toe card if you want to.
  • You cannot work with your teammates to get a tic-tac-toe. Only individually achieved tic-tac-toes get the bonus.
  • Multiple people can fill the same prompt square. You cannot "block" others from getting tic-tac-toe.
  • Remember to also follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points for each tic-tac-toe card (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each
Tic-tac-toe Bonus: 2 points each for the first 12 achieved by your team

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

hi i am here to deliver kunikage feelings

***

“Welcome home.” Kunimi’s voice is soft, eyes sleepy when he looks up from his laptop and spots Kageyama in the doorway. It’s late and Kageyama’s tired; travelling always seems to take a lot out of him.

“I’m home.” And he is.

He never quite understood it when he was younger, how home was a person and not a place. Kageyama has never cared much for his surroundings; as long as he had his volleyball shoes and a volleyball nearby, he was fine.

For a while, home was the squeak of shoes on a volleyball court, the sting of Suga-senpai’s friendly backslap, the demanding shout of Hinata asking for a toss, and Tsukishima’s disdain. It was growing into his shoes and learning to be a setter that could bring out the best of his players, in a way that would not leave him aching and hollow like middle school had.

Home now is the quiet of Kunimi, the smell of fabric softener and sun, the warmth of a cup of tea in his hands, just how he likes it. It is a far cry from the contentiousness of their middle school days and the strange awkwardness of their high school days, the aftermath where they learned to navigate each other in a way that did not tear open old wounds and rip each other to shreds.

Kunimi now is not much different, still quiet and unassuming, a distinct preference for being left to his own devices. He quit playing volleyball after high school, went to Osaka for university and Kageyama had not heard from him again, for a while. Not until they had bumped into each other again in the supermarket, Kunimi visiting his parents and Kageyama home for the weekend.

In between volleyball and university and growing up, Kageyama’s not quite sure how they ended up here. But he’s grateful for Kunimi, the way he allows Kageyama room to breathe even as he goes back to his laptop, doubtless another report or a piece of code he was still trying to coax into working. Somehow, he knows what Kageyama needs from him even without Kageyama’s clumsy attempts to articulate.

Kageyama’s not dumb, per se, but Kunimi’s always been brilliant in a quiet way that leaves Kageyama breathless. Even now simply watching him frown at his screen, Kageyama wonders how to explain the lump in his throat and the relief that Kunimi seems to invoke in him, the gratefulness that came from being understood and accepted, especially with their turbulent past.

“You should go take a shower,” Kunimi reminds him gently, and Kageyama is suddenly aware of his travel wrinkled clothes and the smell of recycled air that clings to him.

“Yeah,” he answers, but he goes to sit next to Kunimi instead, leans against him until Kunimi shifts and they settle again more comfortably, the quiet clack of the keyboard and the smell of detergent soothing Kageyama.

Outside, it begins to snow.

Once everyone except Sanada was gone, Yukimura breathed a deep sigh of relief and let his eyes close. The world had been starting to fade at the edges, to grow blurry and disfocused in the way that he knew signaled he needed sleep.

He’d used to sit up when they visited. Now he stayed lying down to conserve his energy. Sitting up alone was too exhausting to manage for more than a second. Lying down, he could talk to them for a good ten minutes, maybe even fifteen on a good day.

He breathed slowly, focusing on the give of the hospital mattress against him and the crisp sheet over him. The rapid pulse of his own heartbeat gradually slowed and he felt himself drifting into a half-doze.

No. Sanada was still there. He couldn’t sleep yet. There was something he had to say.

“Don’t let them – come again,” he muttered without opening his eyes.

“…Why not?” Sanada’s voice was gentle but held a note of confusion. Everyone was careful not to overtire Yukimura, taking turns to speak instead of overloading him by speaking all at once.

And they loved him.

(They’d lost at Nationals and failed him. They loved him all the more fiercely for that, knowing that they would have won if only he had been able to play.)

“Tiring.” The corners of Yukimura’s mouth twitched in something that could’ve been a smile. “They think – they’ll live – forever.”

They were overflowing with vitality, even if their spirits were dampened when they were in the hospital room. Their healthy young bodies, covered with lean muscles, seemed to positively glow in Yukimura’s eyes.

He’d looked like that once. He’d been one of them -once.

Sanada chuckled, dry and quiet. A moment later, Yukimura felt his cool hand being engulfed in Sanada’s warmer, calloused hands. Yukimura’s callouses had faded away, leaving his hands smooth and frail, fingers thin and frail as paper straws. Inside Sanada’s hands, they felt helpless.

“We once did too,” Sanada reminded Yukimura. They’d planned for college together, for pro careers representing Japan, and they’d never thought anything except lack of practice could stop them.

“Yes,” Yukimura agreed drowsily. Sanada’s presence was still there but far away. What came to claim Yukimura was closer to unconsciousness than true sleep. With the last of his waking strength, he murmured, “Now we know better.”

If Sanada replied, Yukimura didn’t hear it.

The clicking of the pen cap is a part of the background noise now. Yachi doesn’t even notice Kiyoko doing it anymore.

Her eyes are transfixed on Kiyoko’s hand, the long, slim fingers that grip the pen so loosely and the smooth-looking skin of the back of Kiyoko’s hand. Every so often, Kiyko’s hand shifts slightly and the pink inside of her palm peeks out from over where her thumb is curled around the pen.

It makes Yachi’s mouth dry, makes Yachi think of English class and the play they’re studying. There was a line there about palmer’s kissing by touching their palms together and while the rest of the class had been confused, Yachi had thought of Kiyoko’s hands.

Kiyoko uses hand lotion, Yachi knows. Kiyoko lent her some once before practice, when she saw the cold weather was chapping Yachi’s hands red. It had smelled faintly floral, but subtly so. After practice, on her way home, Yachi cupped her hands over her face and walked in a daydream, suffused by Kiyoko’s scent.

She’ll ask her mother to buy that brand of lotion next time she goes shopping. She won’t wear to school, of course. That’d be weird. She’ll only wear it at home, where she can lie on her bed with her hands over her face and think of Kiyoko.

She isn’t gorgeous like her mother or beautiful like Kiyoko. She’s cute, like a kitten or a puppy, and she knows it.

Even her hands aren’t as nice as Kiyoko’s. Yachi has square palms, shorter fingers and her nails are ragged from being bitten. Kiyoko’s nails shine so beautifully that Yachi’s sure Kiyoko buffs them; polish would wear off eventually but Yachi has never seen Kiyoko’s fingernails look anything but perfect, always filed down to have only a thin sliver of white at the top.

The only thing that Yachi has that’s more beautiful than Kiyoki is the notes that Yachi takes. Her notes are perfectly organized and color-coordinated. If only she were in Kiyoki’s class so she could copy her notes for Kiyoko! If only she could do something for Kiyoko!

Like a knight of old, she longs to prove her worth but it is Kiyoko who always saves her from rowdy boys on opposite teams or wildly flying volleyballs.

Kiyoko is so lovely, so brave - she is princess and knight both, and Yachi is only her handmaiden.

“Oishi and I still want to play League with you!” Eiji said cheerfully, hugging Ryoma, “Don’t worry, o-chibi. We aren’t quitting League. Just professional play.”

“Eiji’s right,” Oishi said with a smile that held no sadness in it. “We’re a good duo lane but we’re not the best duo lane anymore. GoM took that from us and now we want to take a break for a little.”

“If you leave, will you be able to come back?” Ryoma asked, pushing Eiji away more from habit than because his hug really was too tight. “What if they hire someone else and don’t have the budget for you?”

“Then we’ll keep cheering for you from the audience,” Eiji promised and tousled his hair. “This isn’t goodbye. We found a flat nearby and we’ll still be your training partners.”

Ryoma scrunched up his face. “Who’s even going to replace you?”

“You know the streamer DemonMode?” Oishi said carefully.

“Yeah--” Ryoma started to say, then wrinkled his nose. “He’s crazy.”

“But he’s also an excellent, unattached ADC,” Eiji pointed out. “And he can match your intensity. Not many people can do that.”

“He keeps talking about killing people and painting them red!” Ryoma said.

“But he’s never actually killed anyone outside of League,” Oshi countered.

“That you know of,” Ryoma said darkly.

Oishi and Eiji exchanged looks. It seemed like convincing their midlaner he’d be okay without them would be harder than they’d anticipated.

“If I have to play another game,” Aomine said, voice tight with the strain of keeping his temper, “I’m going to throw the computer out the window.”

“We need to practice,” Akashi said flatly, narrowing his eyes at where Aomine was slouched in his chair. “We have to get the timings of the ganks down perfectly. You and Kuroko can’t carry the game on your own.”

“Of course we can! That’s why you’ve got me.” Aomine raked his hands through his hair, glowering at Akashi. “I’m sick of this. I’m sick of practice, I’m sick of doing what you tell me do, I’m sick of killing everyone else like they’re just bots.”

Louder, harsher, “I’m sick of League.”

A startled silence fell over the room; when Aomine shoved his chair back and stormed out the room, only Kuroko and Kise ran after him.

“Mine-chin’s right. League’s getting boring,” Murasakibara grumbled. “I just sit in top lane and take damage. It’s no fun anymore.”

He left and nobody went after him.

Now alone, Akashi and Midorima eyed each other.

“Should we tell them about the roster changes to Prinz?” Midorima asked.

Akashi nodded after a second. “It’s either that or lose them. They need to know Prinz is being revived.”

Sports injury warning!

***

Ryoma stared at Yuuta who, to his credit, squirmed only a little under the relentless examination.

“You can’t play in the Summer Split because you hurt your shoulder falling out of your chair?” He asked in a tone that was clearly one of utter disbelief, even if it was split between how could Yuuta be so stupid and how could Yuuta abandon them right before the Summer Split.

“Yeah,” Yuuta said, rubbing his injured shoulder gingerly. He could feel the bandages through the cloth of his light shirt. The only reason he’d even been able to get dressed was because Mizuki had helped him on with the shirt and buttoned it for him. “I went to the doctor and he said that I have to rest it. Typing for hours and hours a day isn’t restful, according to him.”

“He’s an idiot,” Ryoma decided. “We’ll have Inui-senpai look at you. He’ll come up with a sports drink and training schedule for you, and you’ll be back in top lane by the start of the Summer Split.”

“I already went to him. He agreed with the doctor,” Yuuta said glumly.

When Ryoma’s gaze narrowed, Yuuta added desperately, “If drinking something would fix my shoulder, I’d do it straight away. I’d drink a hundred cups of his juices. This isn’t something I want, Ryoma-kun.”

A few more seconds of glaring and then Ryoma relented. “Fine. You can come along with us just in case. Did Inui or Coach Ryuuzaki say who’s replacing you?”

“Shinji,” Yuuta said bleakly.

Ryoma groaned. Shinji drove everyone crazy with his non-stop muttering during games! If it were possible to kill your own teammates, Prinz surely would’ve sent Shinji to his doom.

“Please get well soon, Yuuta-kun,” Ryoma implored.

*

“Is it true that Yuuta hurt--” Kirihara asked as he burst through the door. His sentence stopped halfway as Ryoma’s disgruntled expression confirmed the rumor.

“Fuck,” Kirihara said eloquently. He dropped onto the bed next to Ryoma and casually smoothed a hand over Karupin’s back. While the cat was officially Ryoma’s, it was more of a house mascot by now. He petted Karupin absent-mindedly, twisting over to lie on his side.

“So who’s replacing him? Momo-senpai? Taka-senpai?”

“Shinji.”

Kirihara groaned even louder than Ryoma had. “What’s wrong with Momo-senpair or Taka-senpai? Or Akutsu-senpai?”

“Momo-senpai has to study for exams, Taka-senpai has to focus on helping his father in the sushi shop and Akutsu-senpai split his knuckles open punching someone.”

“I wish I could punch him,” Kirihara grumbled. “That’d teach him how to punch people without splitting his knuckles!”

Both of them considered Kirihara giving Akutsu punching lessons for a few seconds.

“Maybe when his knuckles heal,” Ryoma said.

It’d be a useful contribution to the team on Kirihara’s part, at least.

“It’s DPS,” Imayoshi muttered at the wide screen TV. Their club house was set up with the best media equipment so they watched all their opponent’s matches on a huge screen with even more detail than they’d have had if they’d been playing in the match.

“What?” Hanamiya asked, glancing at Imayoshi. Everyone else was engrossed in the match, paired off in their usual configurations. Kuroko was on Kagami’s lap, sharing a bowl of popcorn that Kagami was devouring like he’d never been fed in his life, and Aomine and Kise were sprawled over one of the other’s couches. Murasakibara was busy munching his way through enough candy to give a dentist nightmares and not quite paying attention to the game.

Hanamiya and Imayoshi, as usual, had gravitated together while Momoi and Riko, the team analyst and coach respectively, were taking notes at the table with Midorima.

All of them had heard Imayoshi’s comment though, so it wasn’t just Hanamiya looking at him.

“It’s DPS, not DPS per second,” Imayoshi elaborated. “DPS already means Damage Per Second. It’s like saying PIN number - PIN already means Personal Identification Number, you don’t have to say number again.”

Everyone stared at Imayoshi for a few nonplussed seconds and then collectively decided to ignore him, turning their attention back to the screen.

Only Hanamiya snorted and dragged Imayoshi closer. “Gonna write to the commentators and tell them?”

“They do check Tweets during the game,” Imayoshi said, pulling his phone out. “And I’ve got fake accounts I can use to tell them.”

“Thank you, Imayoshi. You are a true hero, standing up for the language like that,” Hanamiya said dryly.

“The only heros you know anything about are subs,” Imayoshi muttered.

*

“It’s a snare, not a stun!” Inui told the screen. The screen did not care. His teammates, however, snickered softly. They were well-used to Inui’s outbursts by now.

“It’s an important difference,” Inui said, adjusting his glasses with an air of ruffled dignity. “With a stun, you cannot do anything. With a snare, you cannot move but you can still attack. Snares are much less damaging than stuns.”

“We know,” Eiji said, flipping over the back of the couch. “Morgana only stuns on her ult, snares on everything else. Leona stuns. Lux snares. A knock-up is the same as a stun but Yasuo can ult onto you.”

“Yes,” Inui said, mollified by this proof that Eiji had paid attention to his lectures. “Exactly that.”

Oishi fed Eiji a kernel of popcorn as a prize for having stopped Inui from launching into a longer lecture while Kaidoh grabbed Inui’s hand and tugged.

“Senpai, sit down and watch. You can quiz us on the different attacks after the match.” As much as he respected his boyfriend’s talents and as grateful as the entire team was to have Inui as their analyst, watching matches did get a little frustrating when Inui kept interrupting!

“Fine,” Inui agreed as he sat down. “And then you can all try some of my new mental strengthening juice.”

Suddenly, everyone decided to go watch the match in their own rooms.

Hanamiya was draped over a chair balanced on its back two legs, headphones on as he stared intently at his phone. Curious as to what could be holding his attention, Imayoshi silently approached him from behind.

“It gets me in the mood to watch him kill scrubs,” Hanamiya said without looking up from the screen. “Besides, it’s not as if we’ll be playing him.”

At least not today. The Spring Split was a different matter.

*

Ryoma stroked Karupin as he stared at his tablet, earphones on to keep the peace of the waiting room unshattered. Kirihara prowled up behind him, dropping his hands to Ryoma’s shoulders to watch his boyfriend flinch.

“What’re you watching?” Kirihara asked, tugging one of Ryoma’s earbuds out and lifting it up to his own ear.

“Shadow and Light? Really?” He recoiled, dropping the earphones as he scrunched up his face. “We’re about to play them and you’re watching them now?”

“It’s an old match,” Ryoma explained, attention still on the screen. “I thought I saw something in Aomine-kun’s dodge patterns that might be useful.”

“Really?” Kirihara draped his arms over the back of Ryoma’s chair. “Rewind. I want to see it too.”

*

Kise’s laughter interrupted Aomine’s conversation with Satsuki. They both looked over at him; he was staring at his screen and grinning, his hand over his mouth.

“Hey,” Aomine said curiously, leaning over to look at Kise’s phone. “What’s the joke?”

“Nothing.” Kise tried to swipe away but Aomine was too fast for him, lifting the phone out of Kise’s hands.

“Why are you watching the Golden Pair? They aren’t even playing in this round. They’re retired,” Aomine scoffed, thumbing the window shut.

“But they still play and have fun streaming,” Kise said, smiling up at Aomine as he took his phone back. “Don’t you want it to be like that for us, Aominecchi? Always having fun, even if we aren’t competing.”

“I want to win this round,” Aomine said, smacking Kise lightly upside the head. “And you’ve gotta concentrate for that.”

“I will,” Kise promised, leaning over and letting his smile take on a slightly teasing edge. “Kiss for good luck?”

The snap of a camera phone distracted them for a second but when they looked around, Momoi was busy talking to Midorima and Akashi was doing some last minute warm-ups.

Neither of them saw Kuroko smiling as he admired the cute photo he’d just taken.

“Shoiiiiiiichiiiiiiii,” Hanamiya whined and it was a real whine, low and annoyed. Imayoshi rolls his eyes, balancing the phone between his ear and his shoulder as he lay back on the bed.

“This is so unfair. Why is our entire team at Worlds except for me?”

Imayoshi took a deep breath and smiled at the ceiling, projecting the smile into his voice, “Because, Makoto, you’re suspended.”

“But I could still come for moral support!” Hanamiya argues.

“You have no morals, Makoto,” Imayoshi said as sweetly as he could.

“You’d be happier if I were there,” Hanamiya countered.

“I’d be watching you every second to make sure you don’t trip someone up or break their ribs,” Imayoshi corrected. “I can concentrate much better when you aren’t there.”

“Tch.” The sound of Hanamiya’s sulking carried through the phone perfectly. “I’m a better player than Murasakibara any day. He just plays straight tanks and soaks up attacks. I actually do damage.”

“Yes, you do,” Imayoshi agreed. “And then you get suspended for flaming. You should have used a smurf account.”

“What do you think I’m doing now?” Hanamiya shot back.

The steady tap of Hanamiya’s fingers against the keys wasn’t even audible to Imayoshi but he didn’t bother mentioning that. Instead, he said with another smile, “I thought you were being a self-pitying little child.”

Somehow, Hanamiya hanging up felt like a victory.

Ryoma stretched out luxuriously, rolling over the giant bed. They had been given such nice accommodations! He glanced over at where Kirihara was flipping through the channels.

“Do you think we should call Oishi-senpai and Tezuka-senpai?” He asked. The loss of their former leading duo had been a terrible blow to Team Prinz even though Kirihara was a stunningly devastating ADC, especially with Fuji providing perfect support. The loss was more to their morale; this was Prinz’s first year at Worlds and not having their shotcaller or support was worrying at more members than just Ryoma.

“They’ll call us if we want. We’re supposed to let them rest in hospital and get better,” Kirihara scoffed with a roll of his eyes skywards. “Who even breaks their wrist delivering a baby and then falls on the captain and breaks his shoulder?”

“Oishi-senpai,” Ryoma answered. As much as he disliked Kirihara’s lack of respect, he did understand what Kirihara meant. It was the most ridiculous injury he’d ever heard of as well.

He rolled over and picked up the room service menu. “Do you want something to eat?”

“THE HEARTS OF OUR ENEMIES!” Kirihara yelled excitedly.

Not for the first time, Ryoma wondered why he’d been assigned a room with Kirihara.

I can’t cope with how much I love this verse. Nothing happens except some bickering.

Hanamiya loomed over Ryoma, looking down at him with a smirk. “I hear you’re a genius at League.”

“I hear you’re toxic,” Ryoma replied. He couldn’t have sounded more unimpressed if he’d tried - but why would he waste such effort on Hanamiya?

Without looking, Imayoshi reached out and grabbed the back of Hanamiya’s jacket, dragging him backwards. Imayoshi continued to smile at Inui as he did so.

“I hear you’re the analyst behind your team’s success,” Imayoshi said, ignoring the way that Hanamiya was stripping out of his jacket to try to go after Ryoma.

“I just give them the data. They are the ones who train hard,” Inui demurred modestly.

“Inui-kun is too modest,” Fuji said, stepping up besides him. “His data is invaluable.”

“Indeed,” Akashi murmured, watching Fuji warily. His mismatched eyes narrowed, Akashi trying to size him up. “Our own analyst, Satsuki, is instrumental to our victories.”

“We’re heard that,” Fuji replied. “She’s also responsible for making sure that Aomine-kun actually shows up to matches, isn’t she?”

Akashi’s eyes narrowed further. “He gets bored when he has no challenge. We are hoping that representing Japan will provide us with a challenge worthy of our talents.”

The unspoken insult that the finals hadn’t been challenging was picked up on by Fuji - but unfortunately, also Kirihara.

“Are you saying that we didn’t challenge you? We curbstomped your genius asses! They should’ve called you MiraKILL because we were killing you so much!” He erupted.

“Ehhhh,” Murasakibara complained, looming over all of them. “Why’re you shouting so much, Kiri-chin? It’s noisy.”

Kirihara looked at Murasakibara the way that Jack must’ve looked at the beanstalk before chopping it down and Kise decided that this was a good time to intervene.

“Everyone’s just really excited, you know,” he said earnestly as he threw his arms around Kuroko. “We get to represent Japan in a special international tournament! Have any of you even been outside Japan before?”

“I grew up in America,” Ryoma said diffidently.

“So did I,” Kagami added, prying at Kise’s arms to try to get him off Kuroko.

“But not for tournaments, right?” Kise asked, still beaming. “So this is new to all of us.”

“Kise-kun is right,” Kuroko said, trying to worm out of Kise’s hold. “We should cooperate and decide which of us will be the subs.”

Immediately, the room went silent. The only thing they could agree on was that they didn’t want to be the subs.

Akashi’s fingers are long and skillful, drifting over the keys of the piano and the laptop with equal ease.

When he types, he keeps his hands in home row perfect positioning. Any teacher would be proud of his discipline. He has hotkeys assigned to his most used skills and his Actions Per Minute is so high that more than once, he’s been accused of botting.

He slathers hand creams on and keeps his hands in gloves while he sleeps. The softness of his fingertips fascinates Kuroko; he kisses them one by one and makes a wish with each kiss for their victory.

*

Once a week, the entire team gets manicures and hand massages.

The manicures are basic things; their nails are clipped short, the nail beds massaged to prevent cuticles and the nails themselves have a strengthening solution painted onto them.

The massages, however, are luxurious affairs that last for a good half hour each.

Kirihara always falls asleep while having his hands massaged while Ryoma silently watches the massage therapist pull and push, manipulating his joints. Fuji talks to Akashi, the two of them discussing various developments they’ve noticed by watching streamers, while Kise chatters excitedly to the manicurists about how he’s thinking of applying for hand modeling jobs and do they think he’s got the fingers for it?

It doesn’t matter how many times they say yes, he always needs to hear it again. He only ever stops asking when Aomine compliments his hands, possibly more out of irritation than any real appreciation for the slender digits and slim palms.

Midorima has a favorite masseuse and will not let anyone else work on his hands. Murasakibara has to be provided with a giant gobstopper to suck on to make him leave his hands still for the the masseuse to work on.

Momoi, Riko and Inui don’t need massages but Momoi always get a manicure as well. Riko never does; she lets Momoi paint her nails instead and puts up with Momoi’s nail art designs meaning Riko often walks around sporting the team logo on her fingers.

*

“You do have pretty hands,” Aomine tells Kise one day when the manicurists and masseuses are gone.

Kise perks up instantly, the way he always does when Aomine compliments him. “Really?”

“Yeah.” Aomine picked up Kise’s hand, pressing the fingers together into a thin bouquet of pink stems. The romance of the gesture made Kise flush a little as he wondered if Aomine would kiss his fingertips now.

With a satisfied nod, Aomine continued, “I bet you could even get your whole hand into me.”

“AOMINECCHI!” The shout rang through the house loudly, making more than one teammate wonder what tactless thing Aomine had said now.

[Shadow] Don’t trashtalk like that.

Hanamiya bayed his laughter, leaning back in his chair as he tapped out a quick response:

[Hanamind]i’m not trash talking
[Hanamind]i’m talking to trash
[Hanamind] :)

Down the line of computers, he saw Kuroko glare in his direction briefly and snickered to himself. Kuroko was such a fucking princess. A good support, yes, especially when paired with Aomine or Kagami, but he was so prissy about League. Didn’t he understand that making opponents ragequit was half the fun?

[DemonMode] ALL: Sorry, I’m picky about who I let eat my ass

Shuuzou fashions himself into a historian, fingers tracing over the calendar the way a geographer would with maps, committing to memory every second of a time that feels so long past that it might as well have taken place centuries ago. He finds himself walking the same paths that he once walked with company, stopping at street corners and remembering the way it felt to bask in the warmth of someone else, not having to be concerned about how much light they were giving off because there was no such thing as too much, or not enough, when they're off the basketball court.

In the end, it's only just a handful of days, playing on loop at the back of Shuuzou's mind like a song that he just can't get out of his head. He thinks of Tatsuya's smile, of his laugh, his gentle voice as he shortened Shuuzou to Shuu, with an easily familiarity that Shuuzou has never found anywhere else. He misses it, more than he ever thought he could miss such a short period of time. It's different to the way he misses his days at Teiko, or the way he misses being in Japan at all. Shuuzou would relive all of those moments if he could without changing a thing, but with Tatsuya, Shuuzou wishes that he could live every variant of those few days and explore every possibility. He thinks about every detail of every day and how tweaking one thing would change another, the way that Shuuzou smiling at Tatsuya in a certain way could have ended with them kissing before parting ways, just how Shuuzou wishes he had the chance to.

He has the upper hand over most historians though because he knows he will see Tatsuya again. He'll need to be patient for it, but he knows it's going to happen, and he'll have the chance to explore every possibility that he's currently wondering about. He'll learn what it's like to lean into Tatsuya when he's invited to, instead of keeping his distance. He'll learn how it feels to have their hands brush against each other as they walk, instead of carefully holding his hands by his sides.

He'll get to explore all of it, and he's sure that Tatsuya will surprise him even more, just as he always does whether it's face to face or over the messages that they send to each other. He smiles smugly down at his phone and tells himself that he has this advantage over other historians too. His time with Tatsuya isn't over yet.

Five minutes and still no Hanamiya. Imayoshi scowled and taped out a quick text: Where are you? I got online like you asked.

The answer came back quickly: Setting up a new smurf. Just found my old one got banned. Make a new one and friend ThrillKill.

It was a nice, anonymous name that nonetheless said volumes about Hanamiya’s murderous nature. Imayoshi appreciated it even as he logged out of his main account and switched to one of his smurfs. He added Hanamiya and they hopped into a bot game quickly.
