Bonus Round 2: Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Get three in a row! That's the goal of this bonus round. Inspired by a fanwork event type called kink bingo, this round encourages you to create and fill out themed prompt cards.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. There's a lot of text here, but if you read carefully and follow the instructions step by step, you will be okay.

RULES
Please refer to the first comment thread of this post for an example of how this round works.

PROMPTING

  1. Select a ship to create your prompt card about. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Haruki & Kazuma). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Haruki/Kazuma). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

  2. Visit this card generator.
    • Here is a visual guide to using it.
    • The large text box is where you can list prompts if you have your own ideas. Please list at least 9 prompts; you can list more if you want. (The generator says you need at least 24, but it's lying.) Single words or short phrases are better than sentences.
    • Otherwise, you can use the dropdown menu found right below it. Note: some of these prompts lists are NSFW. (NSFW prompts are a-ok as long as you tag for it.) If you don't like some of the options that appear in a prompt list, you can delete them.
    • Text prompts only, please. Also, each card square must be unique—don't list the same prompt 9 times.
    • In "Configuration Options," make sure you select 3x3 and (Normal prompt). This is the most important step!
    • Leave the tic-tac-toe card with its default colors, so everyone can read it clearly.
    • Click the "Create a bingo card" button.
    • Scroll down to see the card that was created for you. If you don't like the prompts it picked, you can reroll by clicking "Create a bingo card" again.
    • When you're satisfied, scroll further down the page until you see a textarea box full of HTML.
  3. Copy and paste the HTML from the box and into the body of your prompt comment, then post!

FILLING

Fill prompts by selecting an individual square to create fanwork for, then leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. (Optional:) If you can fill three squares from a prompt in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, you get a tic-tac-toe (and an additional point bonus)! You can also just fill prompts as you please and get standard points.
  • Prompt squares are labeled as follows:
    A1 B1 C1
    A2 B2 C2
    A3 B3 C3
  • If you're trying for tic-tac-toe, you cannot combine squares into one fill. If your fill can satisfy multiple squares, pick the most relevant square: e.g., one square is sailing and another is pirates and you make a fill about pirates sailing, it's mostly pirates so put down the pirates square.
  • Each fill must stand alone as an individual piece, but all your fills can slot into a larger universe if you'd like.
  • You cannot fill a prompt square more than once, but you can fill every square on a tic tac toe card if you want to.
  • You cannot work with your teammates to get a tic-tac-toe. Only individually achieved tic-tac-toes get the bonus.
  • Multiple people can fill the same prompt square. You cannot "block" others from getting tic-tac-toe.
  • Remember to also follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

For prompts: 5 points for each tic-tac-toe card (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each
Tic-tac-toe Bonus: 2 points each for the first 12 achieved by your team

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Tatsuya is turning him into a poet and it can't possibly be intentional but it doesn't change the fact that Shuuzou is overflowing with feelings that he can only get down in the form of words, framed in the colour of Tatsuya's eyes and hair, the silk of his voice, his laugh, the burning heat to his gaze.

It starts off with disjointed messages that he can't quite bring himself to actually send to Tatsuya, about how beautiful he is, about how much he misses being able to spend time together when they're apart. He deletes the words as soon as he types them out but they take up residence in the back of his mind instead, coalescing into something longer, an ongoing register of all of the things he loves about Tatsuya, from his fiery spirit down to the beauty of his hands, so slender that it's all too easy to forget just how strong they really are.

He composes poetry about every idle fantasy he has about Tatsuya, an ocean away, a sixteen hour time difference making a long distance relationship feel even more distant, but they're both too determined to let that get in their way, both too committed to taking what they want from a life that has already taken plenty from them without asking.

Shuuzou keeps it all to himself until he's bursting with complete stanzas about how it would feel to have Tatsuya's lips on his skin, how their fingers would fit together when they next have the chance. He feels it taking over him until he is nothing but volume upon volume of poetry about Tatsuya, about love, about how it feels to be burning when the match that started the fire feels half a world away.

He can only keep it to himself for so long and he knows it; he'll share it with Tatsuya when they see each other again, and even if he doesn't let it out in the form of spoken words, he knows that Tatsuya will be able to read between the lines anyway, with every kiss, every touch, every single moment together that Shuuzou has wished for and written about, either on paper or at the back of his mind.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" Tatsuya asks over video chat, catching Shuuzou's mind as it wanders to a new line that he wants to write. He's smiling, the perfect mix of amused and curious that Shuuzou wishes he had the words for.

"You," Shuuzou replies honestly, and Tatsuya laughs; it's a laugh that Shuuzou has written so many lines of poetry about already, and he doesn't think he'll stop any time soon. Tatsuya's too beautiful to ever want to stop writing about him.

No warnings except for Iwaizumi yelling a little.

***

Iwaizumi was starting to think that introducing Oikawa to League of Legends was a mistake. He’d made a smurf account so he could play with his boyfriend and help him level up and while he’d been expecting the usual annoyance of dealing with bronze scrubs, he hadn’t expected Oikawa to be quite so bad at League.

Was he int’ing on purpose? There was no way that anyone could have that much trouble remember what tower range was!

Not to mention that these were bots. How anyone could die 7 times to bots was beyond him!

Iwaizumi had even taken support and gone Sona so that he could keep healing Oikawa but even if their entire team had been healers all crammed into bot lane, he was sure that Oikawa would still somehow manage to die.

“Trashykawa, stop chasing,” he said for what felt like the millionth time. “If you overestimate your damage like that and run under turret, it’ll kill you. And then they get the gold and the credit for the kill.”

“They shouldn’t,” Oikawa insisted, tapping furiously at the keys even though he was dead and achieving absolutely nothing with his rapid typing. “They didn’t do any damage to me! It was all the tower shooting me!”

“Yes,” Iwaizumi agreed, words strained and slow. “You were full health. They hadn’t touched you. And then you ran under the tower, they auto-attacked you once, and the tower did the rest of the damage to kill you. That’s called a tower dive and you are not ready for it.”

“Why not?” Oikawa asked as his champion finally revived. Caitlyn ran off the platform, Oikawa eager to get back into lane and Iwaizumi ordered, “Stop! You’ve got gold! Go back and buy something!”

Obediently, Oikawa had Caitlyn run back to fountain.

“No! Not another pair of boots. The speed boosts don’t stack, you won’t go twice as fast with two pairs of boots. Buy a long sword instead.”

Oikawa snickered, looking sideways at Iwaizumi for a moment, “Iwa-chan wants me to get my hands on a long sword?”

“...” Iwaizumi took a deep, calming breath. “Shittykawa, buy the shitty long sword, get back to lane and stop tower diving.”

“You never said why I’m not ready for it,” Oikawa pointed out as he added a long sword to the inventory.

Iwaizumi’s patience snapped and he howled, “BECAUSE YOU KEEP DYING!”

Yeah. Introducing Oikawa to League was definitely a mistake.

Iwaizumi wasn’t sure their relationship would survive it.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE CYPHERS? BECAUSE I SURE DO. Also I was told that Shield & Spear are the motifs for Tsukkima and Yamaguchi by [personal profile] dynamite so that’s where their names came from.

***

“Hey, what’s this?” Iwaizumi asked, peering at his YouTube messages. They were full of chatter about how ‘Shield & Spear’ had called out Iwant. Called out? Had they challenged him to a match? That made no sense. Shield & Spear were an ADC and support team from the CROWS’ second string slash substitute bench and Iwaizumi played midlane. He couldn’t 1v2 them and neither of them could 1v1 him.

Oikawa read over his shoulder and laughed. “Finally! I’ve been waiting for you to be called out!”

“Called out for what?” Iwaizumi asked, twisting the chair around to face Oikawa. Oikawa had been sprawled out on his bed and studying but the textbook was discarded now. He sat on the edge of the bed and grinned at Iwaizumi.

“For a cypher, of course.” At Iwaizumi’s blank look, Oikawa sighed deeply and explained, “They’re going around all the YouTube league players. You make a small rap verse about how good you are at playing a champ, then you call out someone else and they make a verse of their own. You’re allowed to insult the person that called you out too.”

Iwaizumi seized on the most important part: “I don’t rap.”

“You don’t have to be good at it,” Oikawa said with a smirk. “I’ll help you write the lyrics even.”

His eyes lit up, “I could guest star on a verse! Or you could call me out to keep it going!”

“You’re enjoying this,” Iwaizumi accused grimly.

“Iwa-chan’s so mean,” Oikawa said, eyes wide and innocent. “I just want to help you.”

Iwaizumi scrolled through the 1,000+ comments demanding that he respond to the cypher and sighed. “Fine. How do you write a shitty cypher anyway?”

*

The next week, Iwant’s fans were treated to a new video: an image of Zed with a highly edited version of Iwant’s voice rapping over a steady beat.

“Hey, I don’t really rap but Shield and Spear called me out so here goes.” After the opening credits, Iwaizumi broke into the rap that Oikawa had co-written with him.

“Shadow-cursed ninja ain’t got no chill,
In the name of the shadows, I murder and kill,
Ionia’s balance is nothing but a lie,
See me in lane? It’s time to die!

Got no mercy for the weak just undying contempt,
Go ‘head tell your jungler to come pitch a tent,
I’ll take you both on for a sweet double kill,
Slaughtering you noobs don’t even take skill.

Hey little ADC you think you’re hot shit?
Think again! I can kill you with only one hit.
Support goes down too and it’s a double again.
I’m the Master of Shadows and I’m bringing the pain. “

He paused after that, the picture of Zed changing to Iwaizumi’s face. “Breakpoint helped me write it so I’m calling him out now. Go spam his channel and let him know.”

*

By the end of the month, it had 78K hits.

Oikawa smiled to himself, humming into his headset as he snuck through the CROWS’ side of the jungle. Tobio-chan had been spotted top, trying to help out Tanaka, which made this the perfect time to steal their blue!

As Lee Sin, Oikawa had a quick clear time and absolutely lethal ganks. He could go into lane and kick the enemy back towards their turret - being able to jump over walls was a definite bonus as well, letting him get in, kill blue, then get out again even if bot lane caught him.

He took blue swiftly and headed back to the river. Time to kill the scuttle crab! Iwaizumi was pushed under tower - should he gank there? But ahhh, that foolish Acehi and NishiNO were far out of position and Mattsun had his ult ready! A double kill would be better than a single.

“Sorry, Iwa-chan,” he said into his headset as he turned down towards bot lane, “Please keep Tiny Giant at bay a little longer. I’ll come for you as soon as we’re done in bot lane.”

“Don’t lie, Shittykawa,” Iwaizumi snapped back. Hinata’s Talon kept Raking at him, whittling him down. There was only so much dodging that Zed could do even with his shadow clones! “You’ll go for dragon the moment bot lane is dead.”

“Maybe,” Oikawa admitted, preparing his own ult. “But dragon’s good for the whole team, Iwa-chan! Please forgive me.”

“AN ALLY HAS BEEN SLAIN!” The game announced loudly, flashing up an image of Zed and Talon.

Oikawa winced. He’d better make sure bot lane got its double now else Iwaizumi really wouldn’t forgive him!

Shield - dash - and KICK! Acehi’s Draven got kicked out of position right into Shinji’s Leona who stunned him. Immediately, NishiNO threw Lux’s shield forwards; the shimmering orb of light enveloped Acehi right before Mattsun’s Miss Fortune unleashed her ultimate on him. For good measure, Shinji called down an Eclipse to stun Draven a second time.

His health ticked down as the 3v1 took its toll, a brief burst of health from Heal quickly consumed.

Light burst around the three of them and then a double-snare from NishiNo caught Mattsun and Oikawa. The ult from Lux burnt them down to barely any health - certainly not enough to go after Lux or do dragon - so they retreated under their turret to recall.

One for one was at least even. And--

Furious pings lit up the map from Iwaizumi. ENEMY MISSING ENEMY MISSING pinged from midlane.

Their recalls finished right as Talon parkoured over the wall, ready to dive and kill them, and Oikawa laughed to think how annoyed Tiny Giant must be to have had his gank fail.

Oikawa has all the fangirls and Iwaizumi’s annoyed. Warning for brief discussion of sexism in the League community.

***

The easiest way to find Oikawa was to follow the sound of screaming.

Online, most girls used male aliases and didn’t reveal their gender because of the harassment and casual misogyny of the League community.

In real life, however, they flocked to conventions and tournaments, standing out amongst the boys that grouped together and stared in shock. Girls?! In their fighting MMO?!

It was more prevalent than they’d thought!

Oikawa, with his handsome good looks, his gentle way of speaking and his teasing, flirtatious manner with his midlaner Iwant, was especially popular with female gamers. His streams were always well-attended and the number of female fans that showed up in his YouTube comments was high enough to have other players jealously dismiss Oikawa as just a pretty boy.

Siv HD himself had been known to joke that Oikawa was the “Japanese me” to which Oikawa had said that he was honored by the comparison but he was much cuter.

Surprisingly, that comment had only earned him more fans.

As much as Iwaizumi disliked seeing the girls hanging all over Oikawa and following him around to snap photos, it was useful now. Oikawa was the only one whose crowd of admirers was so predominantly female so as Iwaizumi entered the hall, he looked for the biggest cluster of girls.

There. Oikawa would be in the middle.

He half-shoved his way to the center, pushing girls aside whose initial reaction of aggravation swiftly changed to ‘hey isn’t that Iwant?’ or ‘omg Iwant’s come for Breakpoint!’. As predicted, Oikawa was in the middle, signing a jagged ‘Breakpoint’ onto someone’s flyer. The girls around him had his signature on their arms, on their tickets and in the case of one enterprising girl, on a package of baby wipes.

“Trashykawa, come on. We’ve got fifteen minutes to game time,” he said as he grabbed Oikawa’s arm.

“Sorry ladies,” Oikawa said with his most charming smile. “Please keep supporting us!”

Iwaizumi yanked hard enough to practically haul Oikawa off his feet, making Oikawa pout exaggeratedly at Iwaizumi.

“Careful, Iwa-chan! I need that arm to play with.”

“And the team needs you to play with, so hurry your ass up,” Iwaizumi growled in response. Behind him, he could still hear the girls chattering excitedly and the rapid clicks of photos being taken of him pulling Oikawa off.

He sighed. Before the day was out, those photos would end up on some RPF site, Iwaizumi just knew it.

The news flashed up on Iwaizumi’s screen, a news alert that made him freeze as he read it. Just to be safe, he reread it a second time, then a third. Once he was sure he wasn’t hallucinating, he jumped out of his chair and tore through the house to Oikawa’s room.

“SHITTYKAWA!” He bellowed, glancing just briefly at Oikawa’s laptop screen. Okay, it was just a practice match with some of their teammates, nothing he couldn’t interrupt. He grabbed the top of the chair and spun it halfway around, the glow of the laptop screen highlighting half of Oikawa’s face and lending an eerie green glow to his brown eyes.

“FOWLS got disqualified! We’re in the quarter-finals!” He grabbed Oikawa’s hands and dropped onto the chair, kissing Oikawa fiercely with both hands in Oikawa’s hair. After a stunned second, Oikawa kissed back, his own joy surging to the forefront as he pulled Iwaizmumi down further.

A sudden storm of pings made them break apart and look at the laptop screen. The blue HELP pings were flashing along with red ENEMY MISSING, spread all over the map as if people had just pinged wherever was closest.

MadDog: ur cam’s still on!
Mattsun: turn your cam off!
Guess Monster: I KNEW IT!
Eagle: Turn your damn camera off.
Mattsun: CAMERA OFF CAMERA OFF!
MadDog: CAP! THE CAM’S STILL ON!

Oikawa reached out even as Iwaizumi was still reading and yanked the USB cable out to disconnect the camera. His face was pale suddenly, the glee gone from his expression as he disconnected his headset with the attached mike.

“I was streaming…”

Iwaizumi froze, then tabbed out of League. Oikawa’s preferred streaming client also gave people a chatroom to talk in.

A brilliant red 3,459 VIEWERS made Iwaizumi swallow as he forced himself to start reading the comments.

Their panicking teammates and disgruntled opponents were nothing compared to the reactions of Oikawa’s fans. The majority of them were fangirls who seemed to be happy enough for them but interposed with the messages of congratulations were comments on how disgusting they were, how they should be fired, how they shouldn’t corrupt innocent minds by doing such things on camera --

“Don’t read it,” Oikawa said, closing the streaming service. His voice steadied as he kept speaking, “They don’t matter. We’re the best jungle and mid duo around. C-JO can’t fire us for this. We’ve got contracts and the morality clauses don’t say anything about homosexuality.”

Iwaizumi said nothing. They both knew the company could find some other reason to get rid of them if they wanted to. They both knew that being outed like this was Iwaizuki’s fault.

Oikawa tugged him into another kiss but now his lips were soft, seeking comfort rather than celebrating.

Iwaizumi gave him what he could, feigning a confidence he didn’t feel as he wondered what would happen to their contracts now.

And bingo! Hope you enjoyed this set of 3!

His next swing hits the man's head cleanly and it caves in under the weight of Bokuto's bat with a resounding crack! The man falls sideways to the ground, all limp limbs and dead weight, his ruined face smashing into the asphalt.

"Four," Akaashi says from behind him. "That's all of them."

"But there's a fifth," Bokuto swings his bat back onto his shoulder and looks up directly at a man—no, a kid—cowering in a corner, his hands clawing at the brick walls behind him as he tries to back away from them.

Akaashi doesn't look up, scrolling through the memos on his phone after a cursory glance around the scene. "Four is enough for now. We're only giving them a warning this time. The next time they cross into our territory without permission, we have orders to take them all out, starting from the legs."

Bokuto hums, liking the sound of that. It sounds like something they might assign him on. Him and Akaashi. Together.

The blood roars loud in his ears, his heart still wildly thumping from swinging his baseball bat around. They hadn't even put up much of a fight, all four of them, caught completely off guard by Bokuto and Akaashi's sudden appearance in the middle of their territory.

Kuroo calls him an adrenaline junkie, getting high off the rush of blood to his head. It sounds kind of right. Bokuto just likes the way it makes him feel, his nerves tingling and his movements butter-smooth. It makes him feel invincible.

"Bokuto." Akaashi wraps a hand around his wrist, the one that isn't holding the baseball bat. "It's time to go."

Bokuto looks down at his long, slim fingers resting against Bokuto's blood-speckled skin. Good for pulling the trigger on the gun and typing up quick reports on their missions on the go, but really the best for pulling all kinds of sensations out of Bokuto.

They are both dressed in practical black, recommended for hiding stains and flattering body lines, but Bokuto thinks Akaashi pulls it off better. As always. He always looks good no matter what he wears on missions or on off-days.

Akaashi scans their surroundings, his eyes assessing every and any potential threats to their situation. Then he pulls Bokuto along, out of the cramped alleyway they had been in and into the car blocking off the mouth of it.

Despite the racket they had caused in the alleyway, there isn't anyone around to jump on them and yell revenge for their fallen comrades. They probably won't even notice the bloodshed until the morning—just as planned.

"Not now," Akaashi tells Bokuto as he leans over the stick shift between them, his eyes eager.

Bokuto droops and leans back in his seat but he gets it. Still in enemy territory and all. He drives the tip of his baseball bat into the car floor but keeps his hands on its handle, his eyes watchful as Akaashi slams down on the accelerator and they go tearing down the street.

"Later?" Bokuto asks, keeping his eyes on the blocks that flash by through the window.

He sees Akaashi's reflection in the window, barely there, but just enough for Bokuto make out his expression. Akaashi never smiles the way Bokuto does, wide and giving like the sun. His smiles are special, secret ones that Bokuto has to look for. He hears one of them now, a fleeting, elusive thing in Akaashi's voice as he promises, "Later."

Chronologically follows after STREAMERS, please read that FIRST. Warning for homophobia in the League community, bullying/harassment, death threats.

***

The panel room wasn’t too large. It fit about 60-70 people at Oikawa’s best estimate. His heart was pounding as he filed onto the stage, waving cheerily at the audience and not allowing a single trace of anxiety to show. As their captain, Iwaizumi led the way; the set of his shoulders and straightness of his back lent Oikawa courage to keep smiling despite the frowning faces in the audience and the outright disgust he could feel emanating from them.

There were a few clusters of girls, some rainbow flags and banners held up high, but the makeup of the group leaned towards male.

League was not known for having a tolerant community and as pro players who’d recently been outed as gay, Iwaizumi and Oikawa had seen the worst of what the community had to offer. Their public Facebooks had been flooded with death threats and hateful comments, their parent company had received petitions and emails asking for the two of them to be removed from the team and they’d lost a sponsor who’d cited C-JO being ‘incompatible with the values they wish to espouse’.

They hadn’t been fired through. The president had called them in and told them personally that their positions on the team were safe and no matter how much of an outcry there was, he wouldn’t fire them simply for being in a relationship.

He’d been so nice about it that the two of them had almost felt guilty for keeping it a secret from the C-JO President.

The knowledge that their company was firmly behind them was what had made C-JO decide to go ahead with their scheduled panel appearance at a convention. It was supposed to be just an easy Q&A but everyone on the team knew that Oikawa and Iwaizumi would be coming under fire.

Everyone on the team had promised to intervene if the questions got too personal and that they’d walk off as one if the audience turned into a riot.

It was the first time Oikawa had ever been escorted to a panel by armed guards.

The moderator opened the panel with a gracious introduction that made no mention of Oikawa and Iwaizumi’s relationship.

Hands shot up as soon as the moderator finished speaking and he pointed at a girl wearing rainbow cat ears in the front row.

“Hi! I just wanted to say that I think it’s great to have queer role models as pro players and that you shouldn’t listen to the homophobic assholes who say otherwise. My question is, do you have any advice for other people on how to combat homophobia in the League Community?”

Oikawa felt something inside him relax at such a softball question.

When he smiled at the girl, there was real warmth in his smile and from the corner of the eye, he could see that Iwaizumi was smiling too.

“Well, first of all,” Oikawa said, “Report homophobia. League has a report tool with a special category for hate speech. Use it. Secondly, if someone calls something ‘gay’ in game and it’s an insult, call them out on it. Tell them they aren’t allowed to call other players ‘faggots’. Stand up to them and make it clear that League isn’t a community built on hate.”

“Killing them multiple times is very satisfying too,” Iwaizumi added dryly.

The laughter that rippled through the audience was uncertain and patchy but it was enough to make Oikawa feel a little stronger.

The worst part of Worlds was having to bow to the other team. Oikawa, as the jungler, faced Shirabu but his eyes were on Ushijima.

The playstyle of SWAN was very distinctive: they poured all their resources into midlane, counting on Ushijima to carry the game. Ushijima never had to gank any other lanes - SWAN’s top laner, Guess Monster, came down to him - and Shirabu practically camped mid to make sure that Ushijima got fed.

That left Oikawa in an awkward position. Did he camp mid as well as to mirror Shirabu and try to protect Iwaizumi from Ushijima? Or did he try to split his attention between all lanes and jungle camps, counting on the other three to be able to counter Ushjima with him if they were properly fed?

The team had had months to discuss this and every time, Iwaizumi had said that Oikawa should focus on the whole team. He could play safe and stay under tower, he’d make sure he didn’t feed Ushijima. It would be fine. Oikawa should do what was best for the team and then in late game, Iwaizumi would pick up kills and assists so he could catch up to Ushijima.

Ushijima was a fearsome player, yes, but nobody started off being able to 1v5. The faster the other lanes got fed, the faster they could all collapse on an un-fed Ushijima and take him down. As long as they targeted him ruthlessly, C-Jo could win this and move onto the finals against the CROWS. Beating the CROWS would be easy after facing SWAN.

It was best out of five, Oikawa reminded himself as they filed down the line of computers and started checking their peripherals. They’d need to beat Ushijima 3 times to win but likewise, even two losses wouldn’t take them out of the quarter-finals.

He had to relax. Starting the game tense wouldn’t do any good. He was the jungler and it would be up to him to set the pace and keep the team on track.

He adjusted his headset and did a quick mic check.

“Hey, after this, can we all go out for burgers?” Matsukawa asked.

The cheerful question broke the tension and started everyone throwing out their own orders. Even Kyotani broke in with a growl to request a steakhouse.

Oikawa only half-listened to them as he set his hand over his mouse and waited.

He couldn’t think of anything except Ushijima’s blazing eyes and how badly he wanted to gank midlane.

The night before a tournament, everyone was tense. They were all got their orders to go to bed and sleep but Oikawa couldn’t imagine his teammates were sleeping either. He got a mug of hot chocolate and a plate of milk bread to help him fall asleep; the mindlessness of tearing off chunks of milk bread and dipping it into the hot chocolate before eating it was oddly soothing.

He was just starting to calm down when the door to his bedroom crashed open, spilling light from the hallway. Ushijima’s monstrous silhouette was outlined by the hallway light and Oikawa cursed softly, bolting to his feet to drag Ushijima in and shut the door behind him. The last thing he needed was coach getting on his case for having a pre-bed snack! It’s not like they’re physical athletes, it didn’t even matter if Oikawa had a slight obsession with milk bread.

“Waka-chan,” he hissed, keeping his voice as quiet as he could, “What are you doing here? We’re on curfew!”

“Gank for me,” Ushijima demanded, not bothering to keep his voice down.

Oikawa grabbed his arm and tugged him towards the far corner of the room where his bed was. They’d be less likely to be overheard there.

“Of course I’ll gank for you,” Oikawa said once they were safely away from the door. He dropped down to sit on the bed with a sigh, thinking of his abandoned meal. “I’m the jungler, it’s what I do.”

“I want you to camp mid,” Ushijima said, looming over Oikawa. His shadow fell over Oikawa, stronger than the moonlight that spilled from the middle.

Oikawa tilted his chin up; it would take more than that to intimidate him.

“We talked about this at practice. I have to gank for the whole team.” Ushijima might be used to having his jungler camp mid but as the Japanese team was made up of all the other teams, he was just going to have to get used to Oikawa having a different style.

“...” Ushijima glowered down at Oikawa. “Your midlaner, Iwant.”

Oikawa tensed slightly, waiting for the rest of the sentence. When nothing came, he asked, “What about him?”

“You’re gay for him.”

Oikawa was almost insulted but Ushijima’s tone made it clear he wasn’t trying to be insulting. He was just tactless.

“No. I’m gay. Not specifically for him. I’m gay in general,” Oikawa corrected as patiently as he could.

Ushijima nodded, shifting his weight a little as he seemed to take that in.

The next thing Oikawa knew, a large hand had closed on his bare shoulder and yanked him up, an equally large mouth had crushed itself against his and his legs were dangling in the air with one hand on the small of his back to keep him crushed against Ushijima.

“Mmmph!” Oikawa protested. When that eloquent argument didn’t work, he bit Ushijima indeed.

Ushijima bit him back.

Damn. Had he actually thought that was encouragement? Was he so inexperienced when it came to kisses that he thought that was how kissing was meant to go?

Ushijima let go suddenly, dropping Oikawa onto the bed with as much care as if Oikawa had been a sack of rice. His lips were wet and pink now, the expression on his face unrecognizable.

“Gank for me tomorrow,” Ushijima demanded again and turned to walk away.

Oikawa barely got his breath in time to hiss after Ushijima, “If that was supposed to make me want to gank for you, it had the opposite effect!”

Ushijima paused and for a second, Oikawa thought he would reply.

Instead, Ushijima shut the door and left.

“And here comes the CROWS, spreading out to place some deep wards,” Iwaizumi said, leaning into his microphone a little as he watched. “Midlaner Tiny Giant is known for his freakishly good mechanics, picking up the crown that Faker left perched on his throne, and his Talon is pure murder - especially when he roams. He looks like he’s getting ready for a showdown with the NEKOS’ midlaner instead of helping leash. Not that King needs it! The jungler is famous for his timely ganks and excellent positioning, especially when it comes to working with Tiny Giant.”

“Personally, I think that Sugar’s the better jungler,” Oikawa broke in, watching as the minions started to slowly come to lane. “He knows his team, especially the old veterans. The retirement of Daisaster and Tanuki might not have happened if he’d stayed on as the main jungler instead of the sub.”

“They haven’t exactly retired, they’re still part of the team,” Iwaizumi said reasonably, “And -- ooh, nice little flash there in bot lane, NishiNO’s got some good damage down Bokumata. Morgana support’s got that sweet, sweet sustain but those snares hit hard too! And with Acehi’s Draven quick to target anyone NishiNO snares, that botlane is off to a strong start.”

“Tanuki’s brawling up top! His Darius is getting the worse of the trade against Levity’s Vladimir. Levity’s new to the League, having just started this year, but he’s a fearsome prodigy who swiftly worked his way into the professional --”

“Ohhhhh! Nice little bit of back and forth there in mid lane. It looks like Tiny Giant popped Ignite but will it be enough? And that’s FIRST BLOOD to the CROWS! For a newcomer team, they’ve been dominating the brackets. There’s talk of them showing up as Worlds.”

“First they’ll have to defeat NEKOS though. And-- Kitten’s coming up through the river but river’s warded, does he -- oh, oh he’s going for the daring tribush gank, NishiNO didn’t ward that high, they’ve pushed too far--”

“Nidalee spear hits and Kitten is in! Yakkun’s quick to react with a Thresh hook - NishiNo shields it just in time! Oh, that timing! But Nidalee traps and Caitlyn traps are all over the lane now, can Acehi dodge well enough -- “

“THE SNARE!” Iwaizumi practically howled, “That Morgana snare! NishiNO’s bought his ADC enough time to get back to turret and there’s Talon tearing down the river, parkouring through dragon pit so he doesn’t get picked up on wards and -- THERE’S THE ULT! TRIPLE KILL!”

Fortunately everyone was too busy watching the game to notice Oikawa’s pout.

So, this didn't go in the direction I was expecting it to XD But I still think I turned out quite well. There's much fluff so I hope you'll enjoy :3

***

Kuroo had always marveled at how easily Kenma seemed to be able to fall asleep absolutely anywhere and under any circumstances. “Naps”, he called them. When they were just kids, this behaviour had been encouraged by their parents. “Kids take naps”, they had said, philosophically. It was considered normal. Healthy, even. And he even remembered being telling him off every time he would skip nap time. They had come up with the idea of making them sleep together, because Kuroo had always seemed to fall asleep incredibly fast around Kenma. He didn’t know exactly why. He had always felt so relaxed when watching him sleep so peacefully, and combined with the playing with his best friend’s hair with his fingers made him drop on the mattress, sleeping like the dead.

Kenma had liked his sleep when he was younger. Not that he didn’t enjoy it still, but his love for video games was hardly compatible with his previous sleeping schedule. He would now spend his nights playing and his days sleeping. He was either sleeping, playing video games or practicing volleyball. Not that the later occurred often. And as his close, childhood friend and neighbour, Kuroo would be in his company most of the time, and as such, Kenma would inevitably fall asleep on his shoulder. The first time it had happened, they were going home after an official match and Kenma had drifted off, probably lulled by the soft engine of the bus. When they had arrived to their high school, Kuroo had had to wake him up and as he has pulled away from him, Kenma had instantly shivered. He had opened his eyes slowly, adjusting to the situation. He had shivered once more and Kuroo had taken off his Nekoma jacket to drape him in. The second-year had crunched his face at the smell but didn’t make any move to take it off. If anything, he had tightened it around him before his sleepy mind had cleared up a bit and he had zipped it all the way.

From then on, it had become some kind of ritual. Kenma would now look at Kuroo intently every time he would feel sleepy, and Kuroo, weak as he was would hand him his jacket. Once, Kenma had even called Kuroo in the middle of the night asking him if he could bring him his jacket because he had trouble falling asleep after finally defeating a boss. Kuroo hadn’t questioned it at that moment, way too used to Kenma’s antics and had mechanically grabbed his jacket and headed, still in his pajamas, next door, entered the house by the back door which was always left unlocked, climbed up the stairs, opened the last door on his left, thrown the clothing on his friend and dropped down on the bed.

Kuroo looked at Kenma playing on his PSP on their way back home. It was still early since they didn’t have practice on mondays, and the train was crowded. He slipped closer to the setter as he was pushed by the passengers to make more room from the newcomers. Kenma looked at him when he invaded his personal space and then, registering the situation, glared at crowd. They now had too little space for Kenma to keep playing and he reluctantly put his gaming console back in his bag. Kuroo was bracing himself. Because a non-playing Kenma was a sleepy Kenma, even if he hadn’t stopped playing by choice. Soon enough, the little head started nodding and finally nestled on his chest. Kuroo could feel Kenma falling asleep as his weight was put on him and he silently thanked the crowd for giving him the support not to fall on his ass. He ended up carrying Kenma back to his him. He had pondered whether he should wake him up or not but he had chosen to passed it off as exercising. When he opened the door to his neighbour’s house he was greeted by Kenma’s mother.

“Oh, god, Tetsurô-kun. Is he asleep ?”

“He fell in the train, he couldn’t play.”

She just nodded as it was hardly a rare occurrence.

“I’m so grateful that you’re still such a good friend for my son after all these years, but you should be a bit firmer with him. You spoil him way too much, he must a pain sometimes.”

Kuroo knew it was true, but ever since they were little, he had wanted to protect this small, cute boy and he wasn’t about to stop now.

“It’s fine, Mrs. Kozume. Look, he’s not even heavy. He should eat more.”

“Yes, I always tell him but he’s so stubborn. Well, if you’re sure then, Tetsurô-kun. I’ll leave him in your care, I have some errands to run, I’ll be home in around an hour to make diner. Won’t you stay with us ? As a thank you for now.”

He smiled at her.

“Yes, I will. Thank you, Mrs. Kozume.”

He then headed up the stairs, making sure Kenma’s head wouldn’t hit the wall and finally dropped him on the bed. Kuroo separated himself from him, just to take his shoes off. He had just planned on making the short way to put them at the entrance when Kenma shifted and opened his eyes.

“Kuro ?”

“Shh, it’s fine keep sleeping I’ll be right back.”

Kenma made a grabbing gesture towards him.

“Jacket.”, he whispered.

Kuroo stayed stunned for a few seconds and then laughed.

“I know, I know.”

He let it slip off his shoulders and as he handed it to Kenma he couldn’t help himself but ask.

“Why my jacket ?”

Kenma put the jacket on top of him, like a blanket and Kuroo wanted to laugh once again at the absurdity of the situation as he glanced at the perfectly well-made bed.

“Because it keeps me warm.”

And then, Kenma’s breath evened as he went back to sleep.

Kuroo felt even more confused than before. Of course the jacket was warm, but wouldn’t his be just as good ? He sat on the bed, staring at his best friend, and he started to feel his eyes getting heavier. In less than five minutes, he was laying beside the younger boy, playing with his hair. And as he finally succumbed to sleep, he thought that he understood a little bit what Kenma meant.
