This was actually a little difficult because the replace novel/canonical account of their first meeting has Imayoshi being the ONLY person to see through Hanamiya’s good boy act so I was stuck at first how to write this. XD And then I realized - Imayoshi commenting on everyone else being fooled!

Afterwards, Imayoshi enjoys watching everyone recoil from Hanamiya with the scandalized outrage of sheep who did not notice the wolf in their midst.

The same people who had praised Hanamiya's honor roll status, who had spoken of how polite and gentle he was, were now the loudest voices of disapproval. They spoke of what an awful liar he was to have fooled them so, of how arrogant and contemptuous he was of his peers. He was even disrespectful towards the teachers!

Imayoshi held his tongue and did not ask what the teachers had ever done to deserve Hanamiya's respect. He smiled instead and accepted graciously the compliments thrown his way for having been suspicious of Hanamiya.

There was no such thing as a good person, Imayoshi longed to tell them. They should have known from the start that anyone who was universally loved was lying to the universe.

They would not thank him for such insight though; they would turn on him just as surely as they had turned on Hanamiya.

Imayoshi feigned modesty instead, demurring, "Oh, it was easy to see through his act, I deserve no especial credit."

Such a humble statement could not offend anyone; such a humble statement would leave them wondering why they had been stupid enough to be fooled if it was so easy to see through Hanamiya.

The flocks of giggling girls that had surrounded Hanamiya fell away, leaving him standing alone as he loped through the hallways with the effortless grace of a satiated predator. The whispers always died out when he came near, people refusing to meet his eyes or smile at him but not daring to scowl or challenge him either.

"Senpai," Hanamiya greeted Imayoshi, a dark light making his grey eyes glint like sharpened steel. He said nothing more but waited, a challenge in his expression to see if Imayoshi would still acknowledge him though the rest of the school stunned him.

Aware of the many eyes trained on them, Imayoshi smiled and reached out. He ruffled Hanamiya's hair, a flicker of pure delight shooting through him at Hanamiya's surprised scowl, and then let his hand rest on Hanamiya's shoulder. The boy's shoulder was sharp but relaxed, holding no tension despite the situation.

"Makoto-chan," Imayoshi purred, deliberately pitching his voice to be overheard. "Come, have lunch with me."

He had been the only one to see through Hanamiya and now, he would be the only tone to tame him.
