Atsushi meets the God of the Night Sky when the sun is just kissing the horizon goodnight, the sky rich with twilight. He's escaped onto the rooftop of the school building, seeking a place to nap in peace, only to find that he's not the only person here. There's someone else—so ethereally beautiful that Atsushi can't quite place how old he is, draped in a cloak of what appears to be starlight.
"Oh," he murmurs, turning around with a smile when he realises that he's not alone. "Atsushi."
"How do you know my name?" Atsushi asks, full of suspicion, holding his ground as the guy walks closer to him. He's heard of gods, heard the bad stories as often as he's heard the good. He knows a god when he sees one; there's no living mortal who could possibly be this beautiful. He can only see one of the god's eyes, but gazing into it feels like he's seeing entire galaxies bursting into life, beautiful and overwhelming all at once.
"Don't ask questions you already know the answers to," the god replies with a smile, his fingers brushing against Atsushi's cheek in a light caress. "That's boring."
"What's your name?" Atsushi asks instead, because at least he doesn't know the answer to that one.
"Tatsuya."
"Tatsu-chin."
It makes Tatsuya's lips curve into a smile. "If you like. Will you sit with me until I have to get to work, Atsushi?"
There's really only one answer, when a god asks you a yes or no question. Atsushi makes himself comfortable.
•
They see each other every evening after that. Sometimes, Atsushi climbs up onto the roof and waits, and other times, Tatsuya's there already, smiling at Atsushi as he approaches.
He's full of stories. There are all kinds of things that take place under the blanket of the night sky and Tatsuya sees them all, regaling Atsushi with tales that seem too strange to be true.
Then again, the fact that he's sitting here with a god feels a little too strange to be true, itself. It's worse when they make eye contact mid-sentence, their conversation trailing off just so that they can watch each other.
"Oh, Atsushi. You know I can't do this," Tatsuya murmurs, while leaning in to kiss him anyway.
Atsushi doesn't mind breaking the rules. He's glad that Tatsuya doesn't seem to have any problem with it either.
