i'll do my best!! \ o / just a disclaimer for anyone reading this, i'm hoh (basically profound deafness in one ear) and a lot of my perspective/experience comes from growing up with that knowledge and exposure to doctors and etc. :) and i will be using deaf here to refer to all those who have permanent hearing loss, including hoh people!
can i just say i love that other people have deaf/hoh hcs for aoyagi? ;___; they hit such a personal and special place in my heart, augh. i love it so much.
aoyagi's social awkwardness is definitely on par! i was deeply embarrassed by my aids—when i chose to wore them—and absolutely dreaded anyone finding out, mostly because i was ashamed to have them. i hid mine under my hair too! communicating with people verbally was also difficult (i would often miss what people say or mishear things, especially if it was noisy bc deaf people can't single out particular noises a lot of the time; we lack hearing depth perception, basically). his feelings reside very deeply with what i felt back in middle and high school and still feel today at times: a mix of self-loathing, embarrassment, desperation to keep up with conversation, etc.
your depiction of aoyagi is actually hitting me in a very personal place. his problems/struggles were and are my own, uhuhu. ;____; i really like it and think it's pretty accurate!
if aoyagi is using his aids, that means sounds in his environment get louder in volume, so i don't doubt that aoyagi can /hear/ what is being said... but it may be layered over by other noises in the environment, making it hard to distinguish what is being said versus hearing it. does that make sense? i hope it does... if not, feel free to ask! there are definitely more sophisticated hearing aids that have programs or functions developed to help a person single out particular voices but i don't know the efficacy of those... and that gets way into technical detail.
T2 BABIES SIGNING TOGETHER. OH MY SWEET HEART. LORD. KSJFLKDS i'm not a signer and don't know (japanese) sign language myself but have always wanted to learn and it is a way of communicating for a lot of d/Deaf people! i can't attest to the accuracy of its use in your fic but gahhh, thank you for putting it in. T___T
THIS WAS OVERALL VERY VERY CUTE AND THE WAY THAT JUNTA JUST KIND OF BARGES INTO AOYAGI'S WORLD AND ADJUSTS TO HIM INSTEAD OF AOYAGI HAVING TO DO IT?? GAH. SO SWEET. thank you for this gem!! i enjoyed reading it so much!! *____*
