SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).


This round is made for exploration of all those "what-if?" scenarios, like "what if my favorite sports anime was actually a spaghetti western?" or "what if everything was the same except everyone was actually a car?"


This round ends at 7PM on June 27 EDT. Countdown Timer.

There were loud clanging sounds in the background, as a few teenage boys fought off a monster, but the two that mattered were facing each other, one kneeling on the ground, and the other standing with a hand on one hip, looking somewhat standoffish.
The smaller of the two had a cord bracelet on his wrist, and it was currently pulsing, and giving off a soft orange light.
"What do you mean I'm a 'magical girl'! I'm not even a girl."
"No shit, Hinata. We know that you aren't a girl, it's just a name anyways. But you said yes to the crow, so now, you're part of the team." The dark haired boy narrowed his eyes, and it would have been intimidating if he wasn't wearing a bright orange skirt, with a black bow flaring behind it, and knee high boots that were outright ridiculous. It was a girl’s uniform through and through, even though the kid wearing it obviously wasn’t a girl. He looked familiar, but Hinata couldn't make out his face through the black bird mask he was wearing.
"What? That scrawny thing? All he said was 'Would you like to be magical?' And of course I said yes, who wouldn't want magic?" Hinata was starting to get kind of aggravated now.
"You. Said. Yes. So now, you're a magical girl. You get powers, but you have to use them to save the world. Do you understand?"
"Not really. Who are you anyways, and what kind of powers do you have? And how do you know my name?”
“My name is Kageyama, and I know your name because Crow said you’d be joining us. My powers revolve around using shadows.”
Hinata’s eyes shone. “Wow! What are my powers?”
Kageyama rolled his eyes. We don’t know, and that’s why we need you to transform.”
“Am I going to be wearing a skirt?”
“Yeah.”
“Do I get a mask?”
“Yup.”
“Do I-”
“Shut up and transform already!”
“How do I do that?”
Kageyama grabbed his head and squeezed. “Just say ‘Wings of the Crow, FLY!”
Hinata nodded, and repeated the ridiculous phrase. Sure enough, it worked, and he was lifted up into the air, only for his perfectly reasonable practice clothes to change into a uniform identical to that of Kageyama. He proceeded to blush like crazy.
“Don’t worry. The embarrassment goes away after a few times.” Kageyama grabbed Hinata’s hand and dragged him closer to the fight to watch. There was a tall, muscular guy with black hair, a shorter guy with silvery hair, and some kid who looked nearly bald. “Those guys are Daichi, Suga, and Tanaka. Daichi controls the earth, Suga water, and Tanaka, well, you see...”
Hinata looked over just in time to watch Tanaka spit fire at the monster, and see it burn to ash. Daichi and Suga nodded in relief, and they transformed back into regular high school boys.
“So, this is the new kid? What can he do?” Tanaka grinned, showing off his pointed teeth.
“I... I don’t know.” Hinata jumped into the air, and put his hands out. A brilliant beam of light shot out of his palms, and struck the ground, making small craters, and also nearly singing the top of Suga’s head.
All five of the boys smiled eagerly, wondering what else Hinata could do.
Kageyama put a hand on his shoulder, expression determined. “Hey. Hinata.”
“Y-Yeah?” He gulped nervously.
“Light and Shadow together... I think, no, I know that if we work together... As long as I’m here, you’ll be invincible.”

Your name is Teshima Junta and you are on a quest.

Well. Quest might be somewhat of a strong word.

Your name is Teshima and, if you are being a tiny bit more specific: you are on the path of a personal grudge that has taken your eye, your arm, your favorite hat, more than one life, and without doubt, will lead to the destruction of the universe. That said, you prefer to stick with calling it a quest. It doesn't cause any less questioning, but it does mean that people don't look at you so weird when you explain why you're asking for directions.

You haven't slept in what may be something approaching eleven days, between the eternal night you live in and your amateurish time-travel shenanigans, but it probably doesn't matter much. On this tired night, your valiant quest as led you to a very special place at a very special bar.

No. It isn't just as simple as entering the bar.

Even if you're technically arrived, you have yet to find the damn thing. While it is incredibly difficult to pick one particular element you hate the very most about this entire mess, the fact that your target and greatest enemy is effectively the sum of a universe in one spiteful form is probably very close to the top of that list.

You aren't sure if they're aware that they're warping the city around their tracks or not, but you do know one thing - if they did know, they'd be overjoyed to know that it caused you -

And that means specifically you alone, in particular, over anyone else in the cosmos -

So much trouble.

You take stock of your surroundings.

Currently, there are:

- Three (3) local pedestrians, personally miserable enough to have dragged themselves to the very dredges of the city at Hell-o'clock in the morning, and are all currently likely utterly incapable of deductive thought.
- Eleven (11) oily dredges of rain water, the desperation of wishing to reach the status of puddle evident in how they vibrated in waves of color and inexplicable whining.
- Sixteen (16) fire hydrants, installed after the rash of random* fires that reduced most buildings in this region to rubble. While the thought certainly counts, you do think that it might have been better to actually rebuild some areas to allow for honest human and/or carapace habitation first. Or maybe not, considering someone's building looming somewhere around the darkness here.
- Fifty-two (52) broken streetlamps coating the streets, interspersed between rusty crashed cars, both out of a sense of artistic value and actual incident.
- Fourty-seven (47) lamps otherwise tied to stand up, a project that is both your pride and joy. The only flaw of this project would be the fact that it means anything on this disgusting street is visible.
- One (1) green, large, and rather terrifying bouncer.

*It was a difficult day and you still stand by the fact that you started only a mere six of those fires before things got out of control.

Also, the buildings were ugly and got in the way of the view.

You step around the wannabe-puddles, as to avoid their shrieks of personal insult, and pop your heels up to the fire escape.

Doubashi Masakiyo is mean and green and definitely part-machine at this point. With how much you've been clanging around on this ladder, it'd be near elementary for most people to notice. However, she's making enough noise to send every cat in a twenty mile radius into a yowling fit with each metal slam of her feet. From what you can make out through the blood beginning to leak out your ears, it seems Yuuto's gone inside her own "time-machine." The bedazzled rabbit hutch on her back says more than it needs to.

You really don't understand Hakone. Nor do you want to.

You know her mostly due to the messy relationship web Onoda drew up for you a few months back. Apparently, she's got her own set of time-travel stabilization going on, so it might not be the best idea to use that to try and get her into a more beneficial position. Onoda didn't actually tell you that. You mostly extrapolated the fact from her enthusiastic explanations otherwise.

"Is it really necessary to...."

Rin looks up. There's a contour brush held between his lips, so his retort is relegated to an unimpressed lift of one eyebrow. Makoto winces a little.

"I'm not trying to second guess you, or anything. I know you're good at your job."

Rin huffs a sigh through his nose and pulls the brush from his mouth. "I'm really good at my job," he says. "I know everyone's just used to photoshop these days, but the effects of makeup are more subtle and lay a foundation for the graphic designer to build upon. This would be over a lot faster if you just held still."

"But—"

Rin ignores him, popping the brush back into his mouth and dipping the brush he's currently using back into his pressed powder. A few quick strokes to color the brush, and then he's dusting powder between the dips of Makoto's impressive six-pack. The skin beneath the brush shivers and twists, and Rin pulls back with a harassed sigh.

Above him, Makoto is laughing, his long fingers pressed to his mouth. "But it tickles," he gasps.

Rin lightly smacks the back of his hand against Makoto's stomach. "Tense these up," he says. "It'll help. I'll be done in a minute."

Makoto obligingly tightens his muscles, and his six-pack stands out even more than before. Rin sighs and goes back to work. He's worked with hundreds of models with beautiful faces and gorgeous bodies, but even he has to notice that Makoto is a cut above the rest. His shoulders are broad; his muscles flex enticingly below his skin as he moves; his legs are long, and his calves are perfect.

On top of that, Rin thinks as he sweeps highlights onto his muscles, ignoring the way Makoto's skin shivers and the stifled giggling above his head, this model is adorable. He'd bowed to Rin when they'd been introduced, which almost no model did anymore, and tripped over himself to follow Rin's brisk instructions.

"Are you new?" Rin asks, putting his tools away and picking up new ones. "I haven't seen you around before."

Makoto glances down. "Oh, um, not exactly," he says. "I've worked for other brands, but I've never done....underwear before."

"You'll be great," Rin says. "You're gorgeous."

The words fall from his mouth automatically, a stock compliment given to puff up the fragile egos of the models he works with. Makoto stills, though, and when Rin gets to his feet he can see that Makoto is blushing.

"Th-thank you," he says softly, as if no one in this business has never told him that before.

Rin sighs, thinks Adorable a little irritably, and then brushes liquid foundation onto his cheek. Makoto flinches once but then eases; this, then, is familiar territory.

Rin brushes the makeup across his straight nose and clear forehead, blends it in the soft skin below his jawline. He gives it a second to dry while he puts his foundation brush away. "Eyes," he says as a warning.

"Okay," Makoto murmurs back, closing them obediently.

Makoto's eyes are slightly droopy at the corners, giving him a soft, puppy-like expression. Rin highlights them with eyeshadow, and when he says "Open," even he's taken aback by his handiwork. The smoky powder changes Makoto's expression from gentle to sultry.

Rin swallows. Maybe not so adorable, he grumbles to himself.

"What are you doing later?" he says, brushing bronzer in the apples of his cheeks.

"You mean the shoot? Or after?"

"After," Rin says. "I was—" his voice catches, and he has to clear his throat. "I was wondering if you wanted to grab some coffee."

Makoto's shy smile is transformed by the makeup, changes it to something alluring and hot. Rin resists the wild impulse to kiss it off his face. That would ruin all of his hard work, after all.

"I'd love to," Makoto replies.

"Good," Rin says, straightening perhaps a little faster than is strictly necessary. He gives Makoto a clap on the shoulder. "Go break some hearts."

Makoto cocks his head, his smile turned teasing. "Do you say that to everyone?"

"Yeah," Rin says, then grins back. "But I don't mean it very often. Come back when you're done and I'll clean you up."

"See you later," Makoto says, and Rin laughs, surprised by the cleverness of the double meaning.

He watches Makoto's shoulders sway as he walks onto the set and thinks, Nice catch.

“Where have you been?” Standing up when he sees them, Oikawa puts his hands on his hips, lower lip wobbling out in an imitation of sadness. He doesn’t look a day over twenty-eight.

“Mining for gold underwater,” Takahiro replies, and seats himself. The restaurant is quiet, mostly everyone at ease with the illegality of the place. They run good drink through here--he’s missed savoring a glass of it, and the odd expression that crosses Oikawa’s face while he digests his words.

“Why would you need gold? You’ve committed, like, eighty-seven robberies this month.” Iwaizumi frowns, putting his elbows on the table. He lowers his voice after speaking; Sawamura at the Daily Days has ears everywhere.

“It isn’t even a hundred.” Takahiro smiles winningly. “You’re just making a big deal out of it,” he adds, voice soothing. Issei has already helped himself to half the cutlery in the place. “You didn’t ask us here to accuse us of anything, did you?”

“No,” he sighs. He rubs at his temples briefly, voice still hushed. “Did you hear about the cat?” Even Oikawa’s usual smile looks stiff.

“... Yeah.” They’d heard about Kuroo Tetsurou and his absolute purge of the underworld, crippling it from the inside out--how he, a laughing assassin, and his shadow had destroyed it from the inside out. A total coup. Issei sits up in his seat, eyeing Iwaizumi and the tension in his face. “Do you think he’s making a move? On your ground?”

“We don’t do turf wars,” Oikawa’s voice cuts in, lightness forced. “But we’ve had to recruit a little.” Takahiro notices the servers in the place--they’re younger, one of them nearly as tall as himself--and kicks lightly at Issei’s ankle. “And Mattsun can keep the silverware!”

“No, he can’t,” Iwaizumi scowls.

“Incredible,” Issei grins, and unloads his pockets. Takahiro even hands over the fake police badge he’d swiped from Iwaizumi while sitting down. “You’ll outlive them, anyway. What’s the use in worrying?”

“We-ell,” Oikawa begins, and Issei actually turns to Iwaizumi for the abridged story. He can probably think of other things to be doing for the rest of eternity.

“We think he’s like us.” Iwaizumi looks tired. Young, but exhausted somehow. Takahiro can sympathize: he doesn’t look any older, either. Nobody he knows does. “Or at least, he know someone who is.” His voice drops to a whisper. “I’ve heard stuff, I guess, about someone in his employ. They say he can’t be killed. That he believes he’s a god.”

Issei snorts at that--but it’s so unlike Iwaizumi to be so intensely paranoid. It’s been, Takahiro can remember, a long time since they were all scared of anything. “Well,” he finally says, when a young server finally hurries to their table, “I guess we should drink first, and talk later.”

It's strange, having to look up at Kagami.

It's strange having Kagami helping him to his feet, his grip strong on Himuro's arm, saying I've got you, the way Himuro has so many times to him in the past.

Kagami gets him out of the science facility when they've been holding Himuro. He gets them all out, back to a base that they never thought they'd live to see again. Kagami's heralded as a hero. The kind of hero that Himuro's always dreamed of being, but right now, there's not an ounce of jealousy in him, no room for it in his heart when he's too busy staring at his friend in sheer amazement. Kagami isn't looking at the rest of the crowd either. Except for nodding in acknowledgement when he's patted on the shoulder, his attention is focused solely on Himuro, like he's all too aware of how close they came to losing each other forever today.

Captain America used to be a mocking nickname, because of Kagami's heavily accented speech from living in California as a child. Himuro, who has managed to avoid similar treatment out of sheer virtue of his parents banning English at home through his childhood, makes the nickname into a title, makes it into something short and punchy, dipped in legend, and watches with satisfaction as it spreads like wildfire.




The jealousy comes in little unpleasant prickles here and there, small and easy to push aside.

Sometimes, Himuro will watch Kagami being paraded around as a hero and think that it should have been him.

Most of the time, though, he's still adjusting to the fact that Kagami's actually taller than him now. Broader, too.

It gets to him, and not entirely in a bad way. Himuro was already half in love with his best friend back when he was a scrappy little thing, who only lived up to his namesake in how ferociously he would stand for his beliefs.

Now, when people laugh at his name being Taiga, it's because they can believe it. He's broad and muscled and Himuro catches himself thinking about it a little too often, lower lip caught between his teeth as he remembers how it felt to have Kagami manhandling him through the science facility during his one-man rescue mission.




Kagami kisses him in privacy of the forest during a long, boring stakeout. They've already received confirmation that they're not going to sight their target for another hour, but orders and orders, and that means hunkering down for that full hour and staying right where they are until they report their sighting, to ensure their plans haven't been disrupted.

They're sitting side by side and Kagami leans in, very lightly pressing his lips to Himuro's, then pulls away just as quickly.

"What was that for?" Himuro asks, and he can feel his lips tingling. He wants to ask for more, wants Kagami to kiss him harder, wants the ferocity simmering beneath the surface, always so quick to rise.

"You're the only one who doesn't look at me any differently," Kagami mumbles, not meeting Himuro's eyes. "You help remind me that I'm still me, after everything that's happened."

"Of course you're still you," Himuro says softly, because Kagami is the single constant in his life and he isn't about to lose that. It doesn't matter that Kagami looks different, because being with him still feels the same. Kagami still feels like home, and he knows that's never going to change.

"Thanks," Kagami replies, and Himuro laughs softly, grabbing his arm and pulling him into a deeper kiss.
