Iwaizumi wakes up that morning feeling absolutely terrible.

He slithers out of bed, groaning as vertigo hits him when he uprights himself too quickly. It comes out as more of a wet gurgle, however, and he nearly slips while trying to pad across the carpet to the bathroom across the way.

Oikawa is probably already up making breakfast for him and the kids before he has to go to work; Iwaizumi can hear him bustling around in the kitchen. Perhaps he should have asked Oikawa to wake him up, after all.

After some unusual trouble with the doorknob (he just couldn't seem to get a proper hold on the slippery sucker), Iwaizumi makes it to the bathroom in one, tired, groggy piece. He and Oikawa had stayed up late the night before, talking about life, and as a result Iwaizumi hadn't gotten much sleep. It shows by the bags hanging beneath the eyes on either side of his face. Is his complexion looking yellower than before?

Iwaizumi reaches one of his tentacles up to jab tentatively at the skin on his face. He's satisfied when it comes away with the usual layer of slime; the discharge keeps him moistened and alert, or else he'd be drying out everywhere and he couldn't have that.

Getting through his morning routine is always a little troublesome, but it's not so bad today--he only knocks over half of the contents of the bathroom shelf and falls down in unwieldy clumsiness three times instead of the usual five to seven.

Getting dressed is a whole new adventure, just as it is everyday, but Iwaizumi thinks went pretty well. He's off to a good start today--only destroyed about a quarter of the racks of clothing after he had fallen into the hanging coats. He'd tried to grab the rack overhead to right himself, but his tentacles were too slippery, and they globbed right past the metal bars as he had fallen. No matter, though; it was still better than usual.

By the time he makes it downstairs, the children are at the table and Oikawa is setting eggs on a plate for him.

"Iwa-chan! Good morning," Oikawa greets once Iwaizumi makes himself known in the kitchen by sliding wetly against the door frame after losing his balance.

"Grgrohghrg," Iwaizumi gurgles in response, and Oikawa smiles fondly.

"You're so sweet, Iwa-chan! Not in front of the kids," he chides, giving a saucy wink. "But there's no time for that! You, mister, are late! So hurry up and eat so that you can go to work already while I drop the kids off!"

Obediently, Iwaizumi makes his way over to the kitchen table. The rest of it is routine--he's done it thousands of times by now, but--uh oh. Today, he guesses his skin is secreting more lubricant than usual, because it takes him several tries to get a grab on the back of the kitchen chair to pull it out, and after he does, he slides right out of his seat and nearly onto the floor once he sits down. That can't be good. He looks at Oikawa--

"You know, Iwa-chan," Oikawa says, a small hint of suspicion creeping into his tone, "sometimes I think there's something weird about you lately. Like you're actually an ocotopus, or something."

"Ghghogghsgh!" Iwaizumi gurgles in protest. "Gorhghghhrg!"

"Aaah, don't call me Shittykawa in front of the kids! And you're right, I'm being silly. What an absurd thought."

Placated, Iwaizumi turns to dig greet his children and dig into his meal.

After breakfast (one of the eggs missed his mouth, and one was just simply impossible to pick up with both a fork and his bare tentacles, which was just as well since octopi don't eat eggs), Oikawa prepares the children for school and Iwaizumi rushes trying to get his things together for work.

"Your keys are on the counter, babe," Oikawa reminds him.

Right, of course, where he always leaves them--what would Iwaizumi do without Oikawa?

He gurgles in thanks, and Oikawa bats him away, giving him a quick peck on the lips before shooing him out to get to work.

As the door closes behind him and he makes his way clumsily to the car in the driveway, Iwaizumi can't help but to smile at how fortunate his life is.
