Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each

    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

MAKING MOVIES OR MAKING LOVE?: AN INTRIGUING ROMANCE BLOSSOMS BEHIND THE SCENES OF SPRING HIGH

LOS ANGELES — Over the past three weeks, multiple eyewitnesses (and photographers) have witnessed what seem to be dates between the rising star director from Japan, Chikara Ennoshita, and a man who looks like he belongs in front of a camera instead of behind it, cinematographer Keiji Akaashi. Ennoshita and Akaashi have long partnered together, working with each other on films even back when they were students. It certainly seems to look that the couple is ready to take their partnership to the next level, if the eyewitness accounts of them holding hands across the table at Bottega Louie are true.

Our sources imply that they may not even be taking their relationship to the next level, but merely choosing this time to make it public. A brief Q&A session with a collaborator of theirs we encountered on the street revealed much about their history together. Japanese stuntsman and action star Yuu Nishinoya quite literally ran into us on his way to the airport. He seemed quite surprised that we recognized him, as the American audience is far less familiar with his work, but more than happy to gush about his former coworkers. "Chikara and I went to high school together back in Miyagi! We met Keiji in 11th grade during a volleyball club training camp. I actually got into the industry because I had so much fun helping out with their student projects!"

When pressed further about the nature of the duo's relationship, Nishinoya replied with a shrug. The previous cinematographer, he explained, was another high school classmate of theirs (now working as an accountant). When Ennoshita and Akaashi met, they struck up a friendship over their common interest and kept in contact after the camp, although their high schools proved to be opponents in the national tournament. "Nobody was really surprised when Keiji decided to move to America with him. After all, they make a good team!" At this point, Nishinoya realized that he was in danger of missing his flight back to Tokyo and bid us a hasty farewell. Even without further insider information, we can still speculate about the more... homosexual part of their relationship.

Five years ago at Cannes, film enthusiasts believed that the soon-to-be-lauded Final Quest Ennoshita's ambitious, yet low-budget, fantasy movie, would be an exciting tale of adventure as our heroes sought to rescue the princess from a demon king. It certainly delivered on that point, but nobody expected the heartwrenching side plot of betrayal between the demon king and a heroic knight, leaving many of the viewers in tears. Heated discussion has followed afterwards if their relationship was meant to be interpreted as romantic, but those who worked on the project have all declined comment on the subject. This has been a common theme in many of Ennoshita's works. Even last summer's girl power action blockbuster Crow's Angels has sparked debate on whether or not agents Chiya and Mizushi had romantic feelings for each other.

What seems to be the biggest hint is their current project, Spring High. Although previous Ennoshita/Akaashi collaborations have by-and-large been of the action/fantasy genre (with a brief foray into horror), Spring High seems to be in the vein of classic American sports films, with an underdog volleyball team vying for the state championship. Blurry photographs of the filming seem to show a scene with two characters from opposing teams sharing a nervous kiss, which, if true, would be a huge milestone for the genre and for Ennoshita's directing. From what we heard from Nishinoya and what little else we know about their pre-professional history, we believe that this movie is of a semi-autobiographical nature. Spring High, we predict, will be a love letter to the sport which helped to form them in their childhoods as much as it is a love letter to each other.

INCOMPREHENSIBLE SCREAMING. THIS IS FANTASTIC OH MY GOD

Having it structured as a gossip rag article was so clever and such a breath of fresh air from the normal. It also keeps up that "are they or aren't they?" vibe (and we all know they are!)

And NISHINOYA YOU BIG MOUTH. Oh god I bet after this Ennoshita calls him up and gives him an earful in his best Captain Daichi-voice. Ennoshita loves keeping the people guessing, after all.

And that movie, Spring High? I want an OVA of that.
