Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

When the swarm of Snimon attack, the team scatters, yelling and screaming into the woods. Teshima and Aoyagi are separated from the rest but at least they’re together, Aoyagi having had the foresight to grab onto Teshima’s wrist when they ran. The Candlemon are with them, too, hopping desperately along, and that would be more of a comfort if either of them were able to Digivolve. They’re the only ones who haven’t Digivolved past Rookie yet -- even Lalamon managed to Digivolve to Sunflowmon a few days previously, to Onoda’s unbridled delight, and Elecmon and Lopmon have been able to Digivolve for a long time, comparatively.

“Where are we going?” Teshima shouts, and Aoyagi just shakes his head. Away. Somewhere. They’ll figure it out later. Teshima has no real choice but to follow along, and he reaches back for his Candlemon. Its hand is warm and soft and it clings gratefully to his shoulders, spitting fireballs at the giant insectoid Digimon behind them and shouting encouragements to the other Candlemon, who followings a little ways back, spreading sticky, hot wax across their path in hopes of slowing the pursuers.

It’s of little use when the predators can fly, but, well. It’s trying.

Aoyagi swears quietly a second before he stops abruptly enough that Teshima skids into him and knocks them both over. They fall together at the base of a steep-sided rock mound, because of course Teshima’s life is ridiculous enough that he’s living out the chased-into-a-dead-end trope.

“Shit,” Aoyagi says again, with feeling, and Teshima wholeheartedly agrees.

The Candlemon give each other a significant look before taking up positions in front of their chosen children and hissing, the flames on their heads flaring and darkening in an obvious threat. It feels like someone’s squeezing Teshima’s heart -- their Digimon are determined but they’re not strong, and all four of them know that. It doesn’t matter. They’re desperate.

In a second, the Snimon are on them, swiping blades of pulsating energy that Teshima and Aoyagi duck to avoid, and swatting the Candlemon’s fiery spitballs away like they’re nothing. It’s hopeless.

The Snimon are much faster than either of the boys or their Digimon, and Teshima hears Aoyagi hiss in pain, and he cries out when something scythes through his pant leg and burns his shin. They’re scrambling away, crawling on the ground, and Teshima gasps, “this is it.”

Aoyagi grabs at his hand, and while it’s certainly not a particularly helpful action, Teshima feels just a little bit better for it. He dizzily wonders if his parents will ever find out what happened to him and he trips over a root and goes sprawling.

Candlemon screams his name, the other reaches for Aoyagi, and there’s a sudden twin burst of light. The Snimon recoil, covering their compound eyes with their scythes, but Teshima watches in awe and hope and expectation as the light resolves.

Standing in Candlemon’s place is a much larger Digimon, a silver star with purple gauntlets, and in a clear, deep voice it calls out “Meteor Shower!” and a maelstrom of burning rock engulfs the nearest Snimon. Teshima cheers as the swarm of Snimon shriek and flee, chased out by a continuing barrage of tiny meteors and accompanying fireballs (“Thunder Ball!”) from Aoyagi’s Digimon. They’re different, now -- Teshima wonders over that, briefly, how two Candlemon could become a star and something that looks suspiciously, hilariously like Aoyagi himself, but he pushes the thought away. Not the time, he rebukes himself. Something to ponder later.

“You did it,” Teshima says, from his place in the dirt, and his Digimon turns and looks at him from within its shell. Teshima can’t really see its face, shadowed in its armour, but its blue eyes are big and expressive and he’s sure it’s smiling just as wide as he is. He pulls his hand from Aoyagi’s and leaps towards his Digimon, and it catches him and holds him up, under the armpits like a little kid.

“Because of you,” it says, voice serious. “I was able to Digivolve to Starmon because I needed to protect you.”

Starmon. It’s a fitting name, for sure, and Teshima turns it over in his mind. Starmon puts him down, and Teshima leans against it, raps an affectionate knuckle against its protective armour. “Glad you did,” he responds, and he’s never meant anything more.

THIS IS THE CUTEST THING EVER, I love T2 looking out for each other, both their digimon being Candlemon... Also I was so into this that I hummed Brave Heart through the whole digivolve sequence. THANK YOU <3
