Bonus Round 5: Remixes
Bonus Round 5: Remixes
SASO 2016 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
Congrats, this is the home stretch! You've worked hard and created hundreds of fanworks for sports anime fandom to enjoy. This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.
This round ends at 7PM on August 8 EDT. Countdown Timer.
RULES
- Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
- You cannot remix your teammates' works.
- You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
- You must include a link to the original work in your post.
- Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Makishima knows it's Tadokoro as soon as he pulls up. The van itself is the first tipoff — it's not the one specific to the bakery and with the establishment's logo emblazoned on the side, but it's because of the bakery that Tadokoro has begun to insist how even a non-work vehicle ought to have adequate transport space. Makishima's next clue is the two impatient blasts Tadokoro lays on the horn, and if that weren't enough, he shoves his head through the open window next, bellowing onto the street.
"Ma–ki–shi–ma–!" he shouts, with one great hand gripping the open window. "Maki! Oi! Maki, come out already!"
"I'm coming," Makishima mutters to himself, yanking away from the window. He ignores the continuing yells, audible even from the second floor, grabbing a jacket from beside the door and heading out of his apartment.
"Maki!" Tadokoro says one more time, when Makishima strolls apace of the van. It's at a more comfortable volume, though still loud enough that Makishima sticks one pinky in his ear and wriggles it about, like perhaps that way he can dislodge the sound of Tadokoro's voice from echoing off the insides of his skull.
"You came out," Tadokoro adds.
"Of course I did," Makishima says. "What did you think I was going to do, stay up there until you bellowed yourself hoarse and finally went away? I wanted to see you."
"I wanted to see you, too," Tadokoro says. "It's been too long."
He starts to pull himself back through the van's window before grunting, his face screwing up in something suspiciously reminiscent of pain.
"Tadokorocchi...?" Makishima begins.
"I-It's nothing," Tadokoro says.
But his fingers scrabble at the rim of the window from the outside, his elbow bent at an awkward angle against the door. He doesn't pull himself back into the car. Makishima begins to frown, his eyebrows pulling down into a suspicious scowl.
"Hurry up," Makishima says. "I thought we were going somewhere, not staying outside my building all afternoon talking through the car window."
"I can't," Tadokoro admits. "I'm stuck."
"Stuck?" Makishima echoes. Then a moment later, bursts out into uncontrollable laughter, scratchy cackles that scrape at his own eardrums terribly even as he's unable to stop. "Again?"
"The window's a tight fit," Tadokoro says, defensively.
"Of course it is," Makishima says. "That's why most people don't use it for a door, and most people aren't nearly as broad as you are."
But his expression is softening, and he shakes his head back and forth in disbelief. He curls his own fingers against the window edge, and leans in closer to Tadokoro as a smile begins to tug at his lips.
"Remember the first time this happened?" Makishima asks. "At that first inter-high right after we graduated? Remember when?"
Tadokoro laughs, a sound with some embarrassment to it — but warmth, too. He seems to sink down a little lower within his framing in the window (still as big as ever, Makishima can't help but notice, and just as unable to fit through small spaces).
"Yeah," Tadokoro says. "Can't believe I did it."
"Can't believe you did it again," Makishima says.
"You gonna give it a rest or what, huh, Maki?" Tadokoro huffs.
Makishima shrugs, and Tadokoro manages to dislodge himself the rest of the way free, pulling his awkwardly-bent arm back through the window last. He pops open the door, and walks around the van to hold the passenger side door open for Makishima instead.
"How gentlemanly," Makishima comments. "Making up for — this mistake?"
Makishima waves one hand vaguely at the van, at Tadokoro, at all of it. Tadokoro only growls at him in response, but there's a playfulness underlying it. Makishima grins wider.
"Shut up, Maki," Tadokoro says. "And get in the damn van."
