Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

-----------------------

Normally, Aya never paid attention to things like valentine's day or white day. Not just because she rejected every box she received, only because it all seemed a little pointless to give something back to someone you didn't even like.

Of course, it was a completely different matter when you had someone you did like. And different still when they liked you back.

-

Valentine's day fell, stupidly enough, on their six month anniversary. She wasn't a romantic or anything, but apparently sticking together for six months was a big deal (at least in high school anyway.) But the thought of giving Miki chocolate or cookies for such an important date felt a little cheap. Too typical and not really anything special; they'd been trading giri for years before they started dating.

It's then she realises that, apart from bikes, she didn't really know what kind of stuff Miki actually liked. She can't remember her talking about anything else as passionately, and to half ass a gift would be terrible.

Sticking with what she knew, getting her something bike related would be fine then, right?

The only problem being, of course, was that Aya admittedly knew nothing about the damn things.

-

The thought of asking someone from the bike club did cross her mind, but the Otaku was too jittery and probably knew less about bikes than she did, the redhead was too loud and asking Imaizumi seemed a little weird considering she was dating the equivalent of his sister.

She was so wrapped up in worrying about it, milling in front of the Bike club and wondering about asking Quiet-senpai or Tea-senpai, she hardly noticed Sugimoto sneaking up on her until he was right behind her.

She acted on reflex, delivering a swift blow to the gut before she realised who he was, and helped him up by ways of apology.

He brushed her off though, and asked brightly if she had decided what she was getting Kanzaki-san for valentine's day.

Her first thought that followed after she kicked him again was ’how did he know?!’ followed shortly by ’he knows about bikes, right?’

-

It didn't take a lot of convincing to rope Sugimoto into talking about bikes. He rattled on in that kind of condescending tone of his, walking a respectable distance away from her and leading her to god knows where.

She grasped onto words like 'carbon fibre frames’ and 'gear shifters’ but nothing really stuck at all. In fact, she was getting even more confused the longer he spoke.

Before long, they'd reached a bike store.

She wonders if he's messing with her, because Miki’s family owned a bike store of course, and she was quite close to decking him when he announced this particular store had some really nice cycling kits on sale.

...Kanzaki Cycle just sold bike parts, didn't it? She knew Miki liked to ride bikes just as much as she liked to build them, but she can't remember if the other even owned a proper Jersey.

(Embarrassingly, they'd never ridden that often together. Aya was useless on bikes and Miki was just too fast to keep up with.)

They step into the store, and again she's struck with the thought of ’how did Sugimoto know??’

-

Aya hated clothes shopping, and this was no exception.

She had no idea where to start, accidentally wandering over to the male jerseys before Sugimoto steered her to the other side of the store.

He blathered on about the differences in kits, about how women's ones tended to have a slightly winches waist and more material in the chest area and sometimes bust darts (she could have punched him for that particular comment), about how men's kits tended to be more barrel shaped. Which wouldn't have mattered if she was buying one, but Kanzaki-san would most definitely need a ladies kit.

She pushed him into a protein powder display for that particular comment, but marched off to the ladies section regardless.
-

In the end, she chose a simple looking kit in a darker shade of blue. Non branded, since neither she nor Sugimoto really knew who her favorite team was. While kits were usually expensive (she'd nearly had a heart attack when she read the pricetag), the one she selected was an older type, probably from a few seasons ago, Sugimoto reassured. So, even if she spent a little more than she expected on the gift, it wasn't as bad as she first thought. (And besides, Miki deserved the best, didn't she?)

-
Come valentine's day, Miki is surprised to see a lumpy, badly wrapped parcel shoved into her locker among the cards and chocolate.
