Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each

chris rolls onto his other side but that doesn't do it, he still can't sleep. with a sigh he yields to insomnia, sits up, and looks out the window. he feels like he's searching the night sky but he doesn't know what he thinks he'll find, doesn't even know what he's looking for.

well, that's only partly true. but no matter how much he looks for miyuki, chris isn't going to find him in the stars.

another sigh, softer this time, slower. chris gets out of bed and pads across the floor to the shelf on the other side of the room. he could easily keep the music box on the nightstand right next to the bed, within easy reach—but there's something about having to get up for it that makes having the music box in his hands feel more satisfying.

he stands in the middle of the room and winds the key, gazing out the window again as vivaldi's concerto no. 2 in g minor—summer—pours into the room.

the languor of heat swirls around chris, contradictorily invigorating him. he gazes out the window but this time not at the stars: he gazes out into the world. "miyuki." he knows miyuki can't hear him because miyuki isn't here...

even if he were here, there's a chance miyuki wouldn't hear him.

sometimes chris wonders if it was always like that. if they had always failed to talk, failed to listen to each another. if they had not only found but discovered one another through other means, other senses: sight, signal, touch.

he misses miyuki's touch. he could always sleep with miyuki beside him.

he's lost track of time, standing in the middle of the room, in the middle of real sounds and imaginary touches; he's lost track of time and he realizes it as the last notes of summer drift out the cracked open window, fading into the night.

chris looks down to watch his fingers moving over the polished surface of the music box. he knows where they're going and he doesn't try to stop them. he watches his fingertips disappear over the edge, to the latch that opens the hidden compartment. he hasn't done this for a while and he holds his breath, as if there's a chance the compartment will open empty—

the compartment slides open and miyuki looks up at him; he looks up at himself from the photograph, his arm draped over miyuki's shoulders, both of them grinning like...

chris doesn't know. grinning like it had been a good day. and it had been.

and it would be again, someday. chris has to believe that.

he closes the music box and cradles it in his hands. looks out the window, out towards the horizon, and at the better day that lies just on the other side.
