Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Bonus Round 3: Gift Tags

Feeling generous? In this round, you get to give creative gifts as prompts.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 7 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts as a gift tag in the format below. You can specify the size and a characteristic of the gift, who the sender is, who the recipient is, and a one or two sentence note from the sender to the recipient. Descriptions of the package and the included note don’t have to be explicit, see below.
    • Package: medium sized cube, rattles
      From: Kageyama Tobio
      To: Hinata Shouyou
Note: These will help you get better.
    • Envelope: manila, 12''x17'', very thick and heavy
      From: Tezuka Kunimitsu
      To: Kinjou Shingo
Note: Enclosed - Play without regrets!
  • Your prompt MUST include a relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. Fillers can get creative with how to interpret the prompt: your fill can be about the character receiving the gift, one or both characters using the gift, what prompted the sender to send the gift—the physical gift itself can even be excluded from your fill. What’s important is that the gift tag is clearly the inspiration for your fill.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

The minute Makishima said "it's the latest trend over here; it reminded me of you," Kinjou found himself suddenly apprehensive. He had never really been one for trends himself, preferring to stick to the things he knew he liked. He still went to the mail room the minute he received the package notification though.

The box was larger than he had expected and covered in inordinately expensive postage, as seemed to often be the case with packages coming from Makishima. Its contents were wrapped in tissue paper, but before he opened them, he read the note sitting on top.

Kinjou,

Like I said, these are the latest trend here. Ren and I designed a whole line of them for the season, but this one is just for you. The pants aren't one of mine, but they're the latest fashion here too, and they reminded me of you. I think you'll know why.

In place of a signature, there was a hastily sketched spider with a mountain peak behind it. It was the logo for Makishima's clothing line and the way he signed all of his designs. It had also caused no end of speculation among the fashion critics, none of whom had any interest in or knowledge of Japanese high school sports.

Kinjou set aside the note and unwrapped the first layer of tissue paper. Inside was a pair of pants, and he could indeed tell why Makishima had chosen them. They were the same shade of yellow and the same cut as their old Souhoku uniform pants, except the thread picking out the pattern was a metallic bronze instead of the flat brown he was used to. It was downright blinding when the sun hit it just right, and it reminded Kinjou of some of the pictures Imaizumi had sent from Versailles when he had visited several months earlier.

Kinjou covered the pants before he could accidentally blind himself again and unwrapped the other item in the box. It was a jacket, and it was clearly one of Makishima's designs. The entire jacket was purple and green, and each part was a different pattern. Spiders adorned the buttons on the pockets, and when Kinjou looked more closely, he determined they were in fact real spiders encased in acrylic. And on top of it all, in what he knew had to be Makishima's special addition, a snake in Souhoku red and yellow climbed up the back of the jacket and across the shoulder, its head ending just over his heart.

If he had seen it in a store, he would have thought it was hideous and not gone anywhere near it, but it wasn't. It was from Makishima who was finally being recognized for doing what he loved and who went out of his way to customize his designs for Kinjou.

Kinjou wore the whole ensemble proudly to class the next day, and anyone who dared laugh or make snide comments was met by his cold stare until they backed away in shame
