It's the first day of Teiko basketball club's summer training camp, and Daiki is utterly exhausted. The coaches have run them through the wringer, helping them all find their absolute limits, and then pushing them even further beyond that point. They've showered, they've eaten dinner, and now all Daiki wants to do is sleep.
He crawls into his futon, only to be met with a soft sound of surprise.
"Aomine-kun." It's Tetsu, who rolls onto his back and blinks up at him. "I'm sleeping here."
Daiki is honestly too tired to argue, so he just lies down beside Tetsu, shutting his eyes. "Yeah. I'm sleeping here too."
Tetsu's body, for all that his hands are cold to the touch, is warm against Daiki's. He rolls back over onto his side and Daiki tucks himself closer, his face pressed against the back of Tetsu's neck, knees resting in the bend of Tetsu's legs.
It's nice, he thinks, through the tired haze that has settled over his mind, lulling him to sleep.
He wakes up the next morning feeling well-rested, and gets out of bed while Tetsu is still sleeping. He isn't even surprised to notice that Akashi and Midorima are also awake already, their futons neatly tucked away in the corner of the room.
Daiki goes for a run, because he has more energy than he knows what to do with. By the time he's back, everyone else is awake except for Haizaki. They leave him to Nijimura to deal with, and get ready for breakfast.
That night, without discussion, Daiki crawls into Tetsu's futon again. He isn't as tired this time. He's awake enough that he knows exactly what he's doing.
He's awake enough to notice the fact that Tetsu doesn't stop him. He doesn't even react, except to hold the covers up so that Daiki can get under them. They lean into each other, and Daiki is certain that he can feel Tetsu relaxing a little against him.
"Good night," he murmurs, right against Tetsu's ear, and thinks he feels a light shiver in the small body against his.
He wakes up to find that Tetsu has rolled over his sleep, so that they're facing each other. His head is tucked under Daiki's chin, and he has his fingers curled into the hem of Daiki's shirt.
Daiki just lies there for a moment, allowing the contact, enjoying it, before he slowly pulls himself away and goes for another morning run.
They share a futon for the rest of the camp too, and no one else in the team says anything about it. Perhaps it's not that surprising, when they're spending all of their time together anyway, figuring out how to be the best light and shadow that they can. Perhaps it isn't a big deal to anyone else, even if it kind of feels like a big deal to Daiki. He wonders if it's a big deal to Tetsu.
The first night that he's home from training camp, sleeping in his own bed doesn't feel as satisfying as he expects. He lies awake, wrapping his arms around his spare pillow, and realises what's missing.
He realises that he wants Tetsu with him, to hold as he sleeps.
"…Shit."
