Bonus Round 4: Quotes

A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.

  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bokuto and Kuroo bickering wasn't anything new. In fact, in the first few times they'd met, it had been such a routine that nearly no one would bat an eye whenever it happened had it not been for Bokuto's too loud of a voice.

Before anyone knew it, though, the frequency of the bickering in their meetings slowly shifted into more mischiefs than arguments, more grins than yells, more agreements than insults. Apparently somewhere along the way they'd found out that hey, they actually got along pretty well if they wanted to. No one knew if it was a good thing or a bad thing.

Still, that didn't mean the fights stopped completely. Being the teenage child that he was, Bokuto could be unreasonable at times (or well, most of the times), subsequently bringing out the inner 5-year-old usually locked inside Kuroo.

Today was one of those times.

"What are they arguing about this time?" Konoha asked when he saw the two fighting with words at the side of a court, immediately wondering why he even bothered.

"Does it matter?" Akaashi responded without missing a beat, earning a snort and chuckles from the blonde.

"Touché," Konoha said, gaze shifting back to the source of yellings and childish insults in front of him as if it were some kind of entertainment. "Not gonna stop them this time?"

Akaashi shook his head slightly. "They'll stop sooner or later. Hopefully soo—"

"WHAT?! How dare you say that!"

"And why exactly wouldn't I dare to?"

Konoha swore he could almost see Akaashi groaning behind his deadpanned face. "Well," the blonde said, grinning. "Unfortunately it looks like they're not stopping any time soon, though," he continued, pointing at the bickering duo. "You need a hand?"

"It's fine," Akaashi said as he sighed, standing up to walk toward the two. Konoha's grin widened.

"Good luck~" he cheered nonchalantly while sending a wave, to which Akaashi responded with another small one with the back of his hand. Slowly approaching the two very mature captains, the setter let out another sigh. Here we go.

"Bokuto-san, it's this time already and it's about time we wrap up, let's—"

"I don't wanna hear that someone who can't even style his hair properly!"

"Heh, at least my hair doesn't make me look like an old man."

"Bokuto-san—"

"What?! You take that back!"

"Or what?"

"Boku—"

"Or... or...! Ugh!"

"Running out of ideas there? My, my, that's a sign of old age, Bokuto-kun."

"Bo—"

"Shut up! God I'm so mad I could just kiss you right now!"

"Yeah? I wanna see you try—wait, what?"

At the exact same millisecond, it was like time in the whole gymnasium stopped. Every muscle of the few people still left in the room tensed, every movement frozen still, half the balls bounced off the floor as the hands that were holding onto them let go.

"What did you just say?" Kuroo asked again, breaking the silence, this time his voice was quiet but loud enough for everyone to hear.

"I, I said," Bokuto stumbled in panic, eyes swimming away to avoid Kuroo's stare. "I said I'm so angry I could..." A pause as he forced the gears in his brain to work. "Piss... glue..." He tried.

The tensing muscles on Kuroo's shoulders began to relax, his breaths calm in contrary to the beating of his own heart. "I've never heard of that."

"It's a super common expression. You should read more," Bokuto blurted out as his gaze found its way back to Kuroo's eyes, the blush on his cheeks was apparent even from all the way from the other side of the room. Passing a tongue over his dry lips, he forced a gulp to run down his throat. "A-anyway! Don't try to change the subject, okay! That doesn't change the fact that you- uh, your hair suck!"

"Yeah? Not as much as yours," was what Kuroo responded with, but the scratch on the back of his head, the softness of his tone, and the grin on his lips said otherwise. Bokuto bit his inner lip.

"But—but well," the spiker said quietly after a short pause, fingers nervously playing with each other. "To be fair, your, uh, your hair looks pretty soft to touch."

Kuroo felt his grin widening, though turning into a rather bashful one. "Well, my response remains," he said softly. "Not as much as yours."

There were sparkles inside Bokuto's eyes as Kuroo's words reached his ears, a tiny smile began to bud on his previously frowning lips. "Uh, so—you wanna try?"

Kuroo couldn't help but forming a smirk wide enough to hurt his cheeks. "Do you mean touching your hair or kissing you? Oh, my bad, pissing glue, was it?" Bokuto's cheeks colored.

"Shut up!"

Not even five meters away from them, just as the few other pair of eyes currently inside the gym, a certain blonde and a certain black haired stood still, unsure of what had just unveiled in front of them. They looked at each other, then at the pair, and then back to each other.

"Well," Konoha finally said after a whistle, breaking the silence between the two. "What do you know. They did stop soon."

Akaashi didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
