His light is fading, running ahead of him, out of reach, and Kuroko feels himself fading into the darkness around him, a shadow with no form or shape. He has no definition without any light, and he does what he can to reach out, to grasp at Aomine's retreating back, but there's nothing he can do.
His first instinct is to help. He owes it to Aomine, who has already done so much to help him. He thinks and thinks, but it's no use. He can't think of anything to do, and he's left feeling absolutely helpless, watching as the situation gets worse.
He tries reaching out to Aomine again, but he's already so far away that Kuroko can barely even see him across the distance between them. He has no way of closing it, and he wishes that he could somehow learn to emit all the light that he's absorbed from Aomine, to be his lighthouse in this storm, to guide him back to shore.
It doesn't help if Aomine doesn't look, though. Even if it were possible for Kuroko to do, there's no point when Aomine has no desire to be guided back. It already feels like he's long gone, and it'll take more than just a reflected light to bring him back.
What Kuroko needs, he realises, is another light. A strong one, that will help him become a stronger shadow. A pale imitation of a light isn't going to work, the way that Kuroko wants. It's going to take a light and shadow together. Kuroko will have to surpass the kind of shadow that he is now, he'll have to break free of the shadow that Aomine's light has turned him into and learn to be someone else's shadow instead.
He knows that he isn't going to get the chance to do that until high school, but the finals of their last year in middle school are already drawing near. He won't have to wait for very long after that.
The team itself no longer feels like a team, and Kuroko knows that it's not just Aomine who he needs to guide back. The others need it to, one by one, and it's too much for him to do on his own. It'll depend on the kind of team that he ends up with. The kind of players he shares the court with.
Kuroko isn't going to sit idly by and watch this happen. He'll find another light, and he'll change all of it. He knows he will.
