Bonus Round 4: Quotes

Bonus Round 4: Quotes

A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Makoto & Rin). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Makoto/Rin). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

hella discussion of bodily fluids including blood and, i guess, semen? implied sexual content, is there some tag for blood drinking, xeno, butchering a thing, gross, impending violence, crude language, if you're familiar with the crossover canon you can read either or both these characters as trans but it has no bearing on anything here
Word count: 721

Inui ran his nursery with the care and precision of an ice sculptor: which was to say, the chainsaw was his preferred tool.

There were probably easier ways to cut up large plants and animals for feed (the grubs were omnivorous) or puree them for consumption (the small teeth and spinning belt sent tiny chunks flying everywhere) but the real advantage of the weapon came whenever Mizuki dropped by to visit (painfully often).

Inui could always see Mizuki coming before he got there. White light always rattled off the sides of the cave, heralding the arrival of a troll who had long since given up on concealing their presence. Inui suspected Mizuki didn't actually know how to turn his glowing skin and eyes off.

When Mizuki was still a long way down the tunnel and had yet to round the corner, Inui shoved his current notebook in the bottom drawer of his desk, beneath a pile of cold raw meat, for a reasonable amount of secrecy. He took his chainsaw up and proceeded to grind up chum for the mother grubs. Inui was fond of testing the limits of what they would consume, and today's meal included cacti and the remains of an old beetle-shaped lusus.

"INUI YOU'LL NEVER GUESS-" Mizuki yelled as he entered the cavern. The chainsaw kicked up a horrendous racket, and Inui pretended not to hear. "INUI LISTEN. I WAS TOTALLY RIGHT-" chips of beetle shell flew everywhere "INUI CAN YOU SHUT THAT OFF-" orange blood splattered all over the front of Inui's smock and onto his glasses "ANYWAY LIKE I WAS SAYING LAST WEEK" some thicker, rubbery fibers got caught in the motor of the saw, stalling it. Inui sighed. Some days he could keep Mizuki yelling over the chainsaw for up to thirty-seven minutes, and then offer him a drink when his throat got sore. He believed he'd come up with a way to enhance a rainbow drinker's athleticism using blue blood, based on the speed Mizuki always ran from his cave.

"Well! About time you shut that off. Did you know that your friend Oishi is definitely fucking that olive-blood? I have conclusive proof." Conclusive proof, to Mizuki, came in the same way everything else they worked with did: in buckets.

Inui turned around to face Mizuki, still holding his jammed chainsaw out parallel to the floor in front of him. Its tip was a hand's breadth away from Mizuki's thorax, vibrating slightly because Inui refused to turn it off. "I don't know what you expect to be able to do with that information, Mizuki." Inui could have told anyone that much just as easily without prying into the color of the genetic mixture the drone brought him. His working hypothesis was that Mizuki just liked knowing other trolls' business. "Now if you'll excuse me, the mother grub in my care is expecting seadwellers today."

Mizuki narrowed his eyes and stuck his bottom lip out. "Forget your gross fish egg babies for a second. Aren't you jealous that I got their pail?"

"Not at all. It will be nice for you to finally have a winner grub in your brood. Congratulations," said Inui, as the internal belt of his chainsaw began to slightly smoke.

"What is going to take," Mizuki asked sourly, "to start up a nice friendly info war with you?"

"You keep trying to make contests out of the aspects of our jobs that do not matter, because if you measured your progress against mine, you would fail at the only parts that do," Inui replied. "I can't for the life of me understand why you keep com-"

As he waved the smoke from his equipment out of his face, Inui noticed Mizuki's snarl, and beneath the bright white of his skin glowing, a heightened jade green blush. "Oh," he said simply, as the one truly vital piece of information Mizuki knew and Inui didn't rushed full force into his brain.

"Took you long enough," Mizuki huffed. Inui licked one of his fangs.

"You're right, as much as those words pain me," said Inui. "Congratulations on catching me off guard this once. It will never happen again." The motor on Inui's trusty chainsaw pulled through the tendon finally, and the belt whirled back to life, still pointed squarely at his rival's chest.
