A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

questionable drinks, mentions of poisoning/sickness, one mention of cursing
883 words

The drink first appeared in the break room one morning, seemingly innocent and tagged with a printed out note saying “Drink me!”

“When did the break room become ‘Alice in Wonderland’?” Momo asked, pouring all the coffee into his industrial sized pink tumbler.

Kikumaru shrugged, staring at the note for a half second before kicking out Momo’s knee for stealing all the coffee. There were more important things to worry about.

-

A groan echoed through the office later and Arai sprinted past Kikumaru’s desk looking sick.

“What’s with him?” Momo asked, leaning against Kikumaru’s cubicle and stealing a piece of candy from his candy jar.

“Beats me.” He swatted Momo away “Also, ask first, geeze.”

-

The next day, another drink appeared in a very pretty pink tumbler. It sat next to the coffee maker and Kikumaru raised an eyebrow at the note.

“For Momoshiro <3!”

Momo wasn’t even working that day, out on a business trip with Echizen, but the thought of an awkward office romance made Kikumaru cringe. It had happened once when Fuji tried to seduce their usual delivery man and it really wasn’t an experience he was ready to live through again. Or ever again.

So he did what he thought was best. He threw away the note and placed the drink in the fridge, hoping the secret admirer took the hint.

-

Later that day, a scream broke Kikumaru out of his daily mid-day desk nap.

The break room door slammed open, drawing the office’s full attention. Kaidoh stumbled out, looking highly traumatized.

“Don’t...drink...from the pink tumbler.” He dragged himself to his own desk and collapsed.

Pulling out his phone out, Kikumaru quickly texted Momo.

Kaidoh just took a hit for u

What?

Someone’s trying to poison u… Kikumaru paused. Or the whole office. Regardless Kaidoh hasn’t moved from his desk for a full 5 mins. Serious shit.

Why does all the fun stuff happen when I’m gone???

Karma for stealing my candy, Momo-chan. Karma.

-

Over the next month, every member of the office besides Kikumaru subjected themselves to the torture of mysterious gross drink. Mass emails were sent, new break room food rules set, but somehow the drink still appeared and people, for whatever reason, drank it.

Kikumaru honestly was starting to wonder about the survival instincts of the his coworkers. And with productivity being at an all-time high according to Tezuka, he wasn’t too sure.

But things all came to a head when Kikumaru worked another overnight.

-

He finished the last report for a client of his and celebrated by passing out on his desk, face first. It certainly wasn’t the first time he’d done it and it wouldn’t be the last. Normally, Kikumaru was able to sleep until Tezuka came in at 8am sharp, but that particular morning, someone came in even earlier.

At the multitude of shuffling noises, Kikumaru slowly woke up and whined at the 7am showing on his cat clock.

“Teeeezuka, you’re too early…” he groaned, stretching his arms out over his head.

“...I’m not Tezuka, Kikumaru.”

Pausing mid-stretch, he opened his eyes to find Inui from the department next door, holding a cat-covered tumbler.

Seconds, minutes ticked by. The buffering in his mind finally stopped and suddenly Kikumaru was wide awake.

“YOU.” Pushing back from his desk, he pointed his finger at Inui and the drink. “YOU’RE THE ONE POISONING THE OFFICE!!”

“Well,” Inui adjusted his glasses, “there is no poisonous substance in this mixture, just some caffeine and electrolytes, among other things, to give everyone the extra boost of energy to work better. Tezuka asked me to do it, but you all turned me down when I asked you willingly.”

It was then that Kikumaru vaguely remembered a short company meeting about nutrition, run by Inui, that he’d spent playing Love Live on his phone. Whoops.

“And, if I recall, you’re the only one that hasn’t tried the drink, Kikumaru…”

“I don’t have a death wish.”

Inui gave him a placating smile and held out his hand.

“Well, I suppose we could make a deal? Tezuka doesn’t want anyone knowing about this but he does want productivity to stay up so…”

“Do I have to drink it?”

“Not if you don’t tell.”

Kikumaru grasped Inui’s hand with both of his. “DEAL. Deal. Poison them all you want, so long as it isn’t me.”

Inui’s grip was firm, and his smile only worried Kikumaru a little bit.

“I’m glad we could come to an agreement.”

-

When Momo fell prey to the drink for the second time that week, Kikumaru pulled out his phone to text the newest number in his list.

Momo-chan drank it again. He’s already finished his work for the week and has picked up the slack on Horio’s. I think Tezuka’s almost about to cry in joy…or he’s constipated. You never know with him.

After a minute, his phone buzzed.

Thanks for your update, though this data about Tezuka is new. Maybe he should join the experiment as well?

Kikumaru couldn’t stop the smirk on his face as Tezuka shifted at his desk again.

What can I do to help?
