Bonus Round 4: Quotes

Bonus Round 4: Quotes

A shipping olympics favorite, this round uses quotes of all sorts to fuel your creative endeavors.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on July 21 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. Gandhi
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Makoto & Rin). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Makoto/Rin). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Their friendship is built between them like a house; one that they have lived in for so long that neither of them can imagine what it would be like without it. The walls are decorated with photo frames that capture their best memories together, the garden brimming with plants that bloom in every colour when they get the chance to spend time together.

It's becoming increasingly difficult, with their own lives getting in the way lately. They've managed to keep their friendship alive, making it through the rough patches that come with adjusting to the fact that there's distance between them where it didn't exist before.

Hajime thinks that it's both a blessing and a curse. He misses Tooru, misses having him within reach, always just there somewhere beyond the end of his fingertips. Now, he's at the other end of a screen, at the other end of a phone line, at the end of a long train ride.

It's also helped him learn to deal with his feelings.

His closest friends outside of Tooru might not agree, but he likes to think that he's done a decent enough job at hiding his feelings. At the very least, Tooru doesn't seem to have worked it out himself, and that's all that really matters.

The house that is their friendship is filled with secrets that Tooru doesn't know. Hidden photo frames, shoved out of sight, capturing Tooru's smile the way that Hajime sees it, radiant and infectious and beautiful. There are closets bursting with every idle thought that Hajime has ever had about Tooru, barred shut and still threatening to spill forth. Hajime doesn't know whether to blame the distance or the fact that he's hiding all of this in the first place, but he feels that it's become less of a house and more a vault, hiding things rather than nurturing them.

Whatever shape it takes, Hajime imagines that it must be incredibly big, if it has any hope of containing everything that Tooru is to him.

He's standing at the train station, his heart in his throat as he waits for Tooru to arrive. They're spending a week together, sharing Hajime's small apartment, sharing as much time as they possibly can.

Hajime can feel his palms sweating. He doesn't know what to expect from this. He doesn't know if his heart will ache, the way it does when they're on the phone together, begging for him to let out every little secret he's hidden over the years, of the way he's thought of Tooru's lips, the way he's thought of the way he hums low in his throat as he thinks something over, the way he's thought of Tooru's long fingers and how they would feel between his own.

Except then he sees Tooru among the crowd, still looking around, not having noticed Hajime just yet. Maybe it's the eagerness in Tooru's eyes, or the way the ache Hajime feels during their phone calls is nothing compared to the way he feels like bursting now.

Either way, he thinks to himself, perhaps it's time to let go of a few of his secrets.

I am so very, very fond of this ;;;; the quiet yearning is palpable, and using a house as an imagery for their relationship is so apt too, because a house might look solid and grand at first glance but it'll have its own hidden nooks and corners as well. Also, that tiny leap of faith at the end!!! *is torn between lying down in pain, or standing up to Tiger-mom-cheer Hajime on lmao*

Thanks again!! All the fills I've gotten from u have so much thought put into em, I'm being spoilt ;;u;; ♡
