FILL: Team Kozume Kenma/Kuroo Tetsurou, G
525 words
Sometimes, when it’s cold out and their landlord forgets to turn on their heat, Kuroo and Kenma will hide under a pile of blankets, pressed against each other for warmth in the icy New York winters. Kuroo answers work e-mails while Kenma plays video games, and when Kuroo is sick of schmoozing with his clients he slams his laptop shut and buries his face in the crook of Kenma’s neck. Kenma rolls his eyes and mutters that Kuroo is distracting him but doesn’t complain when Kuroo nuzzles his face into his shoulder. It’s freezing out, and when they’re both miles away from home at least they have each other to cling to for familiar comforts.
They tend to drift off to sleep around the same time. Kuroo likes talking to Kenma with the lights off, and Kenma likes to listen. When they’re tired of dealing with the external world for the day Kuroo gets out of bed, hits the light switch and burrows under the covers, ready with a barrage of questions about how Kenma is doing and how his work day went. Most of the time, Kenma is more than happy to oblige. Career stuff isn’t as important to him as it is to Kuroo, but it’s income they both need and Kenma is glad to be in a place, and a job, that he is happy to be in. Sometimes Kuroo will go on a tangent about something silly that happened to him at work, and Kenma will chime in with a story of his own. Or he’ll change the topic to local gossip, or tales of something that happened at home. Kenma peppers this with snarky commentary, and sometimes Kuroo laughs so loudly Kenma fears they’ll wake the neighbors.
Kuroo cuddles in his sleep. No matter how warm or cold the weather is, he gravitates towards human heat, latching onto Kenma like a human jetpack radiator. It’s endearing in the winter and really irritating when the summer comes by. Kenma has to practically peel Kuroo off him in the summer heat haze, shoving Kuroo’s body to his own side of the bed where it belongs. His cuddle habit isn’t cute when Kenma’s sticky, restless, and covered in sweat. It’s even worse when they don’t have clothes to forge distance between them. Kenma knows this best. Trying to pry a naked Kuroo off him in the summer is an absolute nightmare, and when he texts Shouyo to complain about it Shouyo just says it’s cute. Kenma sighs—life is hard, and no-one understands.
Despite this, his favorite Kuroo is the one that wakes up next to him in the mornings. Sometimes he’ll wake up baffled and half-dazed, mumbling something about how it’s too early for any sane man to be awake before burying his face back into a pillow. Sometimes Kuroo will turn to Kenma and ask him how they ended up like this, sharing a bed in a foreign city so far away. Once Kuroo squinted up at Kenma and said “okay, I have to be dreaming.” Kenma rolled his eyes and said, “I wonder why I love you.”
But he already knew.
