Bonus Round 5: Myth & Lore

Bonus Round 5: Myth & Lore

Summer's a time for swapping stories around the campfire. With that in mind, this round draws inspiration from the stories humanity have told each other over the centuries.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 4 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • This round does not have prompts. Instead, we ask you to draw inspiration from the wide pool of mythology, fantasy, folklore, and fable. An urban fantasy or supernatural AU? A re-imagining of your favorite folk tale? Characters swapping ghost stories or playing D&D? As long as your fill in some way incorporates the fantastical and/or supernatural, it's welcome here.
  • Your fill still has to be about a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. What ships you create work for is up to you, though.
  • To submit your fill, simply leave it as a comment as a reply to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each

Everything that had been happening at Hogwarts in the past few months was terrifying. There'd been a monster released from the Chamber of Secrets, which everyone thought was just a myth, an old story of the past that had no bearing on them now. Until bad things actually started happening. Then, it wasn't so much a story anymore as it was a reality.

It had been terrifying, but they had been okay, even as more and more attacks occurred across the school in the past few weeks--muggle-born students being petrified, left frozen in time until an antidote could be made for them, to reverse the effects of what had happened.

Things had been okay, until they started to hit way too close to home.

Tetsu had been careful. Jun had been careful. They both had, especially considering that Jun's a muggle-born, and those seemed to be the students being targeted.

Usually, they'd stick together--strength and safety in numbers rather than being alone--but the one time they hadn't ended in disaster.

Everything, all of his feelings and reactions are muddled together when Tetsu sees Jun petrified in the hospital wing. Anger at himself for not being there. Frustration that this had happened. Fear because it did happen, and it still could've been worse than this, than what it already was. Loneliness, at the momentary loss of his very best friend and constant companion.

I miss you, he wants to say, wishes he had the chance to say so Jun could hear it, so he'd know. I miss you so much.

Then, then, he finally gets the chance to say it. When the monster from the Chamber of Secrets has been defeated, the problem solved, the victims helped.

"Tetsu!"

"Jun!" Tetsu stands, running toward his now awake friend. When they meet halfway, they stop in front of each other, sudden, like they've realized where they're at--the rest of their housemates looking at them, even the entire Great Hall.

Jun's the one who finally breaks the pause, the silence. "You gonna make me wait for a hug?" He grins, barely able to open his arms before Tetsu pulls him into a tight hug.

"I missed you," Tetsu murmurs into Jun's ear, smiling as he hears Jun's loud laughter. He'd missed that. He'd missed this, everything. "I'm glad you're alright."

"Missed you too," Jun agrees, squeezing Tetsu tighter, like he's making up for lost time and missed moments. "And don't think I'd go out easily! And in such a lame way. I'm better than that!"

Yeah, he'd really missed this.

"Wouldn't dream of it."
