Zaizen wakes up in fits and spurts, his vision spinning when he opens his eyes, so he spends a long stretch of time just letting them flutter shut until he comes to again and the process repeats itself. When finally he manages to keep his eyes open for more than a few seconds, he stares upwards for a while, watching the blue sky through the treetops as it moves by. He thinks his vision is spinning again, but then realizes that isn’t it. He’s moving, somehow.
He yelps as he feels a sudden drop, and flails his arms for whatever he can grab onto and his hand digs into a thick, fatty neck. The movement stops and he looks up. Hariyama stares back down at him and Zaizen yelps, realizing all at once that he’s been princess carried by a pokemon all this time.
Hariyama seems to find this reaction to be very ungrateful and promptly drops him on the ground, and Zaizen gets the wind knocked out of him.
When Zaizen looks up again, not only Hariyama is looking down at him, but also Chris.
“So, you’re awake,” Chris says grinning.
Zaizen scowls and jumps to his feet, ignoring the hand that Chris had held out for him. “What the hell happened?”
Chris shrugs, waving a hand. “Well, there was a wild electabuzz, and the incident soured quickly…”
“Got it,” Zaizen mutters. Electric types are his weakness, in every way of looking at it. They all seem attracted to him… for better or worse. “So, wait, you thought the best solution was to just keep going and let Hariyama cart me along like extra baggage?”
The words are no sooner out of his mouth than he feels an enormous weight bashing against his back, and Zaizen is flung off kilter and lands face-first in the dirt.
Hariyama grunts chidingly, as if scolding him for his ungratefulness.
“It wasn’t my idea, he just sort of did it,” Chris says, seeming unfazed by the exchange. “You know he likes you.”
Zaizen scowls as he pushes himself back up. “Uh huh. He sure has a funny way of showing it.” It’s true though. Hariyama isn’t even his pokemon; wrong type. He belongs to Chris, but somehow he just sort of adopted Zaizen.
Zaizen often wonders if pokemon can get confused about who belongs to whom.
“Anyway, we made great time while he was carrying you. We’re almost there,” Chris continues. He’s scribbling something in his notebook, not really looking at Zaizen
Zaizen looks around, taking in his surroundings for the first time since being dropped; they’re down in a ditch, and the ground only continues to sink further down. It’s also hot — a lot hotter than he remembered before passing out. He briefly considers how well taking off his shirt will go over.
It takes a moment, but soon he feels the rumbling, vibrations running from the ground and up his feet. He looks over to Chris. “Wait, are you really telling me… You think you did it? You think Groudon is nearby?”
Chris nods quickly, tapping his notebook. “Of course. It was all in the data.”
Zaizen sighs and crosses his arms. He’s proud, but also… “Well, glad I didn’t slow you down or anything, genius.”
Chris smirks at him, and shrugs. “You know I would have stopped if I thought you were really hurt.”
Zaizen stalls at that, staring at him. Chris doesn’t stop though, leaning in close. Zaizen freezes, wondering at the proximity, but Chris only straightens Zaizen’s hat; Zaizen hadn’t realized it had been knocked askew between all of his mishaps.
Chris grins, seeming to know the effect he had as Zaizen’s face heats up. “So, do you need a minute?” Chris asks.
“N-no,” Zaizen sputters. “I mean,” he shakes his head, hoping to shake off everything else too. “I mean, no, I’m fine! Let’s go get that dumb dirt legendary you want.”
Chris is still grinning as he leads the way.
