Bonus Round 6: Remixes

Bonus Round 6: Remixes

The event's almost over, and you've made it this far, congrats! This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 18 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
  • You cannot remix your teammates' works.
  • You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
  • You must include the dreamwidth link to the original work in your post.
  • Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Ayase Eli/Kousaka Honoka
Tags: No major tags, harry potter au, oh my god i have no idea what im doing but i love the fill i'm remixing too much not to try, sorry sorry sorry
Word count: 729

Remix of [personal profile] underscored's EliHono cosplay/written fill from BR3.

A muggle-born running after breaking every rule in the book.

Of course, the halls would echo. The fireplace left ash and cruel honesty on Eli's tongue. She avoided the living room, the Ministry flooding into her family's home, the media buzzing underneath over questions about the truant student.

"I recognize her."

On the streets, searching in preparation for school, everyone's running mouths.

"I knew she was a rule breaker, but I didn't think she'd throw a show like that in public."

It was like a running joke. Honoka, jumping up at the school table's, drawing everyone's eye - teachers said it was her who cost Gryffindor more points than any other student. Eli had written her up a dozen times over. Every potions class, a dozen charms, finding her sneaking through dungeons and forest with terrified friends.

"Looks like you got me again!" she would say, sometimes, between the fireworks flickering out of her eyebrows, over fluorescent skin, beneath wind and water and sound that always backfired against her. "But you see, it isn't really -"

"Detention." Eli had interrupted, bored early on - irritated other times, until -

"Again?" she said, one day, in genuine disbelief.

Honoka Kousaka, the same girl who had managed to get into a shouting fit with the Sorting Hat for putting her friends in different houses than her, was hanging onto a unicorn with all the fear in the world on her face. Not just fear, though - bright red, giddy smile, she was excited.

It snorted. Eli stepped away. She'd heard stories about every beast in the forest, and unicorns weren't quite the beautiful safety in her eyes that they were in other girls'. She understood how easily anything could turn. The tables would not stand in her favor if she depended upon such a fickle heart.

"I just noticed it was ... um ... lost?" Honoka tried to laugh, slipping off - scrambling not to fall off its back. "And I thought I could show it how to get home, but then I sort of realized I didn't know where, and then ..."

"You know what this means," Eli interrupted.

Her forehead bounced against its mane in defeat.

"Show me how."

And her eyes snapped up like they'd never felt anything but joy in her life.

Honoka didn't beat around the bush. Holding out a hand, she said, "Come on!"

Prefect, eternal leader, elegant and intelligent - Eli still deigned to accept her hand.

Standing in the middle of the alley, too aware of what Honoka was willing to do, Eli's nails dug into her fist. The girl was a fool. Running, the instant people found out, instead -

Three days.

It took Eli three days to bring herself to glance at her mirror, after sleeplessness and bitterness tearing into her nights. She didn't have time. She didn't waste it on silly jokes and gestures, no matter how much she may have wanted, under the heavy fist of her family's mantle.

Three days to watch a message, honest, sure, fool-hardy as it was brave.

"It wasn't me!"

There was no excitement in her fear, this time.

"It'll be worse if they catch me because I'm a Mudblood."

The word stung worse out of Honoka's mouth. Careless and distant, and Eli knew her own family, even if it was wrapped tightly behind a thousand locks. The same word she had spat - sicker every time herself, for what ran through her blood in halves.

Honoka loved a world that put her in endless danger.

"I love you."

As much as she loved a person who could put her in constant danger.

Eli didn't throw the mirror. She put it down. Late.

Honoka couldn't have been caught yet. Eli would have heard about it, deep in the bowels of her house and blood, shadows digging into her ankles. She wasn't sure what was worse. That Honoka hadn't come to her first. Or that she hadn't realized, sooner.

"There you are ..."

Her wand was raised before she could think about what she was doing. Right there - in the open window, a bird too familiar, feathers hanging down from its head like twintails. The sight sent her hopes choking in her throat.

"I thought you might need some good news."

Friends had a way of running. As much a way as they did surviving.

Eli wasn't in the mood to let go.

"Nozomi," she murmured. "I need to get out of here."

Remix of [personal profile] kuramochi's Kingsmen au fill from BR1

***********

The room was a sea of red in various shades and patterns, some brought on by his own hands, others by his partner’s dangerous talents, but the most concerning was the dark hue seeping into Youichi’s trousers.

A shade he really wished was just a figment of his imagination as they were backed into a corner, trap artfully sprung by their arch-nemesis gang. Kuramochi swearing he could hear Raichi’s laugh above the repeated gun fire, watching from the corner of his eye as Sawamura and Miyuki returned fire to cover their position.

“Hang on Ryou, we’ll get you out of here.” Youichi trying his best to soothe both Ryousuke and himself.

If its the last thing I do.

Hearing from a distance the pause as Sawamura and Miyuki traded shots in tandem to re-load, Youichi waiting for his chance as he heard the echoes stop from across the room. Moving quickly to place Ryousuke gingerly to the ground before pushing up suddenly to return fire- catching the young gang leader Sanada by surprise as a bullet lodged messily in his exposed shoulder from Youichi’s shot.

Hearing the swearing and shouting from his position as Youichi returned to safety behind the solid bar counter, moving them both quickly to a different location within cover in case any bullets just happened to piece through the material.

Trembling as Ryousuke remained motionless, the pool of blood growing wider as Youichi replaced his hand back over the wound to apply firm pressure, praying Sanada’s injury would force them to retreat.

Gunfire restarting before another cry rang out in the room from across the space, Sawamura’s shout of triumph giving some reassurance as Youichi checked Ryousuke’s pulse to find it growing ever weaker.

Youichi’s vision blurring, wetness stinging in the corners of his eyes as he watched the liquid melt into the red slowly staining the floor. Barely registering when a pair of hands firmly gripped his shoulders, lightly shaking to as not disturb the figure laying carefully against Youichi’s side.

“Youichi we have to move him now, just in case they decide to come back with reinforcements to finish what they started.” Miyuki’s voice snapping Youichi’s focus back to clarity, tang of blood filling his nostrils to only drive him forward.

Pausing when another hand firmly gripped Youichi’s own in the form of a promise.

“I won't leave you… Youichi.” Ryousuke managing to speak before the extent of his wound caused him to pass out, Youichi quickly and carefully lifting Ryousuke over his shoulder as Sawamura and Miyuki lead the way out of the building.

Sweating vengeance against Yakushi if it was the last thing Youichi ever did.

Remix of [personal profile] doxian's Kuroo/Tsukki fill from BR3.
(Where Tsukki is a little more of a romantic than I expected him to be, tbh).

It's been weeks since Kuroo gave him the key, but Tsukishima still hasn't said anything about it. He carries it around on his keychain and jingles it ever so casually in front of Kuroo's eyes - yet he still doesn't bring it up.

Kuroo pretends that this doesn't bother him; he knows Tsukishima needs his time and space, but he can’t deny that it doesn’t hurt him a little bit when Tsukishima doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that Kuroo gave him a key to his apartment. But again, Kei is Kei, and Kuroo knows that Tsukishima will come to eventually, at his own pace.

It’s been … maybe four years since they first started dating, while Tsukishima was still in high school. Kuroo remembers the first time he talked to Tsukishima properly, at the Training Camp. A vivid image of Tsukishima practicing his blocks with Bokuto and Akaashi flashes in Kuroo’s mind and he sighs fondly, remembering how alluring he had found Tsukishima’s seemingly cold attitude.

“Psst,” Bokuto nudges him during their lecture. Kuroo had been thinking about Tsukishima - again - and had evidently forgotten that he was in a class. “Dude, what’s wrong?”

“Huh?” Kuroo lifts his head to face his friend. He didn’t think that his worry had shown on his face.

“You look a bit out of it,” replies Bokuto as he takes down some notes.

“‘m fine,” Kuroo tells him, cracking a smile that fails to reach his eyes. Bokuto stares at him with a look that says, ‘Clearly you’re not fine’ but he chooses not to say anything about it.

It’s then when he receives a text message from Tsukishima.

“Message from the boyf?” inquires Bokuto, his eyes still on the lecturer. Kuroo looks down at the message and smiles to himself. Finally, it appeared that his boyfriend had decided to use the key.

“Yeah” is all he says as he continues to message Tsukishima. He can’t help but feel slightly agitated, and not because he’s worried the professor will yell at him for using his phone; rather, Kuroo’s mind busies itself with the idea that Tsukishima is inside his apartment now, going through his stuff. (Not that he minds about that in the slightest, but still. Tsukishima was in his apartment, all by himself).

Kuroo puts his phone away as he finally starts taking down some notes about exercise physiology. He had never felt more inclined to do his schoolwork.

remix of [personal profile] ambivia's fill

It's her first night of being on drive through alone, and she's nervous.

She remembers the cars full of drunk students from the nearby university while she was still training. She remembers how irritated they would get if she didn't catch their order over the crackling intercom the first time. At least, back then, she still had her training manager to help her. Now, she's all on her own and the restaurant is running on minimal staff at this time of the night, most of the casuals unavailable because they're busy studying for their finals.

Her shift manager is in the kitchen, cooking patties for the walk-in orders they're getting and he's told her to call him if she needs any help. She doesn't want to, though. If anything comes up, she wants to be able to deal with it on her own. She wants to show her managers that she's good at her job.

She's spent the entire hour leading up to her shift going over everything that she has to do. She's even tried memorising the entire menu so she'll be able to recognise anything that the customers ask for. She hasn't been very successful so far because she'll remember ten at a time before worrying that she's forgotten something, and then she has to start all over again.

She's so nervous that she feels like she's going to burst into tears at any moment. She really doesn't want to. She just wants to make it through her first night on her own, and then she'll prove to herself that she can do it, and she won't have to be this nervous about it ever again.

She stammers her way through the few drive through customers they get, hoping that her politeness will make up for the way her voice trembles. It's not so bad, she thinks. Her night is shaping up to be fairly uneventful. Maybe it will stay that way.

Which is, of course, when they drive up to the intercom.

It's not too different to the other orders at first; she needs the guy to repeat his order to properly catch it. He's ordering a ridiculous amount of food, and it makes her wonder how many people he's planning on sharing it with. She can't hear anyone else in the car with him.

He sounds nice and friendly, though, and she can imagine him smiling as he speaks.

He pulls up to the window to pay, and she sees that he has a friend with him. The driver, with dark hair and thick eyebrows, looks tired. His friend, with light hair and eyebags, looks the same kind of hysterical that most people do right before big exams. She smiles at them both, certain that she has the situation figured out.

Except then the friend starts speaking—starts professing his love—to the driver. He's absolutely hysterical, she thinks. Worse than she's ever seen before.

It's kind of cute. She gathers their names are Issei and Hiro. They're definitely dating, but she can tell that they're incredibly good friends, too. She can see how much they care about each other. Issei is bright red and Hiro is actually crying while he laughs, and she hands their food over, watching them drive away, only to turn into one of the empty parking bays.

She realises that she's smiling. She's been smiling for a while.

"I think there are two guys having an emotional breakdown in the parking lot," one of her coworkers mutters, sounding amused.

"Finals week," she explains, smiling at him.

She doesn't feel nervous any more, and it's a feeling she holds onto for the rest of the night.

Hanamaki Takahiro/Matsukawa Issei; Haikyuu!!

word count: 662

remix of [personal profile] saffroncity's frog prince au

This is the worst day ever, and Issei just wants to go home.

It's been a long night. It's been a long day and honestly, Issei doesn't know why he ever thought that being cursed by a witch would be amusing, or anything more than a pain in the ass. He's never going to open his mouth around a stranger again without first being sure that they're not a witch, and that they're not going to take offence at his sense of humour and turn him into a frog for it.

Being a frog really sucks and Issei can't even sigh in frustration as he's carried from bar number eight to bar number nine, because frogs don't even sigh. He lets out a low croak instead, and Takahiro murmurs something indistinct but low and comforting all the same. Or it's meant to be, anyway. It isn't comforting at all.

Takahiro has somehow latched onto the kiss part of true love's kiss breaking the curse. He's spent all night trying to find someone who will kiss Issei. He's mostly been picking people that he thinks are Issei's type and it's like the universe is playing some sort of cruel joke on him, because he has to spend the entire time watching Takahiro guess his type and consistently get it wrong. If Issei could, he'd tell Takahiro that his type is simple enough: over six feet tall, with short, light hair, and fucking oblivious.

Except, he can't. Being a frog, and all.

If this whole curse-breaking business relies on him being kissed by someone who is truly in love with him, who he loves back, then Issei supposes that he might as well get used to being a frog for a while. He could just cut his losses and learn how to catch flies with his tongue.

Except the universe clearly isn't done laughing at him just yet. Shame on him for daring to assume otherwise.

Takahiro gives up when he's been banned from far too many bars. Issei could really use a drink right now, but that's probably not a good idea while he's a frog. Besides, as they've both discovered, apparently being a frog sitting on the counter of a bar is enough to make people freak out.

Issei really, really wants a drink.

At least, when he's back in Takahiro's room with him, he doesn't have to worry about any immediate threats. Instead, he just wishes frogs could roll their eyes because that's exactly what he wants to be doing at Takahiro right now.

When Takahiro kisses him, brief and unthinking, it catches Issei by surprise. He's left sitting on the bedside table as Takahiro turns the lights off, trying not to feel a little heartbroken at the fact that he's still a frog.

Except then, as Takahiro's breathing evens out as he falls asleep, Issei feels magic stirring in the air around him. He grows, until he leaps off the bedside table, afraid he'll end up breaking it. He lands in a crouch, back in his own body, and he stays where he is for a moment, staring down at his own hands as his stomach does flips.

Oh holy fucking shit he kissed me and it worked, he actually kissed me and I changed back and—holy shit, holy SHIT.

He takes a deep breath, and hides his face in his hands as he grins to himself.

It feels so good to be human again. He has hair. His skin isn't covered in slime. His tongue is back to its normal length. He loves it.

He loves Takahiro.

And apparently, judging by the state of the curse (thoroughly broken), Takahiro loves him too.

The rush of relief comes with a wave of tiredness that leaves him blinking heavy eyelids. It's been a long day, after all, and Takahiro's bed is right there. With Takahiro in it.

Takahiro, who he loves. Who loves him back.

This is the best day ever.

Remix of [personal profile] kiyala's "Yahaba swallows stones to protect his heart" fill here.

cavern

What’s wrong with being tender?
people ask, people wonder, and the answer
sits tasteless on my tongue so I
spit it
out, out, out:
every lie is a tenderness,
every touch isn’t supposed to tear someone
asunder, but people laugh,
people point, people stare
at what’s become of me
a sideshow freak
of a love so rocky it should’ve
remained a cavern I was never
supposed to wander, but
it’s too late for this
it’s too late for us
and I swallow the pebbles I pick up
along the way
for a semblance of something
I hate to call
preservation.

(After all
I don’t need pockets full of stones
to go under
just
a heart
that’s heavy enough
to sink me further.)

oh my gosh, this! is so cool! it's really interesting to hear it another voice, to hear the rises and falls, the pauses and emphases. some of it is exactly as i heard it in my own head (especially the super casual, almost laconic way that sousuke is thinking about the fighting on that final day, and also when he's talking to makoto at the end), and some of it brought new nuances to the words. i've listened to it a few times already and will probably listen more. would you be all right with me linking to the audio from ao3?

Remix of [profile] karahasi's Bokuto/Kuroo fill from BR 3.

It all started when Bokuto flopped down onto Kuroo’s couch and whined about the fact that, despite dating for almost a year, they had yet to go on a road trip together. On top of that, Bokuto had wailed dramatically that they didn’t have “Our Song”, as he called it.

“Tetsu,” groaned Bokuto, putting his head on his boyfriend’s lap. “We don’t have Our Song, and we haven’t even been on a roadtrip together! Can we even call ourselves a Real Couple?”

Kuroo chuckled and laced his fingers through Bokuto’s hair lovingly. “Dude, you know that’s not what defines a couple, right?”

Bokuto nodded once, pouting. “I know,” he sighed, “but I still wouldn’t mind a road trip, ya know? To like ... Kyoto or something? Whaddya think?”

Kuroo said nothing. Their one-year anniversary was coming up, and he had planned to surprise Bokuto with tickets to Disneyland because he had mentioned before that he had never been to Disneyland before. On top of that, Kuroo himself loved all things Disney, so it would have been perfect. Looking at Bokuto’s face now, though, it was plain to see that a road trip was the more desirable option.

Kuroo leaned down to kiss Bokuto’s forehead and smiled. “Whatever you want, babe,” he murmured.

Note: bro i made u a mixtape

Some few weeks later, Bokuto opened the envelope with an excited look on his face. He held the CD delicately and gave Kuroo a grin.

Kuroo wrapped his arms around him, feeling Bokuto breathe a sigh of relief as he leaned in towards him.

“Happy anniversary, love. Wanna listen to it?”

Bokuto nodded and flipped over the envelope and read out the first song on the list that Kuroo had written in his messy script.

On Top Of The World - Imagine Dragons. Bro! This is gonna be amazing!” yelled Bokuto, slapping Kuroo on the back affectionately as he read the rest of the songs.

“I know,” Kuroo enthused, relieved to see that Bokuto was so happy. “C’mon,” he took his boyfriend’s hand and Bokuto clutched onto the CD as Kuroo walked him out of the house.

“Where’re we going?” asked Bokuto, bewildered as Kuroo locked the doors.

“Kyoto. I’ve packed your bag already and booked us a hotel,” Kuroo said as they climbed inside his car. “We’re going on a road trip, my dude.”

Bokuto’s thrilled screeches erupted in the car. “Bro! I fucking love you so much,” he gave Kuroo a kiss as he rummaged in his bag. “You packed Fukuro-sama!” Bokuto gave his stuffed toy owl a friendly squeeze.

“I love you too,” grinned Kuroo as Bokuto inserted the CD in the car music player.

“Happy anniversary to you, too,” Bokuto pulled out some tickets from his back pocket. “When we come back from Kyoto, we’re going to Disneyland.”

Remix of [personal profile] spacewives's Manami & Toudou illustration from BR4.

Manami could feel the humid dusk heavy against their tongue, head full of pressure and heat. That was a party. Blank staring over a crowd, over a room, out a window, they floated too close to the ground.

"Care to dance?"

The skirt swirling around their feet kept them forthright. "Not really."

Hands joined to music they could hardly hear. Manami graced the floor with little more than impatient strolls across. And for those who may have spoken, they didn't care to wait. They were here for Toudou. And until Toudou said as much, they would stay.

"You need to meet people," she had said. "How else do you expect to get anywhere in the world?"

A simple answer. Manami didn't think about it.

"I won't stand for my protege wilting about over loss." Her fingers digging through their hair. "When was the last time you washed this?"

"This morning," they said through a yawn.

"There is still soap here," she muttered.

"Oh? Sorry."

Every day, they kept to the rigid schedule - well enough. Tasks were started, and mostly completed. People didn't seem to notice too much. Even if how Manami fell asleep in the gardens was always a topic of chatter, no matter how much they came to classes and etiquette lessons covered in leaves and sun-burnt sweat.

Toudou always complained. There was always another thing they were doing wrong. Write-ups hanging along the walls from a dozen people. Detentions they dozed through and punishments that never quite stuck. Manami got enough right - they knew that much. And in Toudou's hands, despite the way her fingers spun through their hair, was a strange wordless gentleness.

They didn't care to think about it much.

Standing in hot spotlight, glowing with preapplied glitter and gold.

People didn't take much offense at how Manami brushed them off. A sideshow to greet and compliment and admire, but - for the men who may have grimaced or frowned, most didn't push the subject. Most wouldn't try to touch.

Thinly woven sugar glass to stand pretty at the edges, Manami watched the crowds pair off, and felt the air sticking heavy behind their eyes.

They left the building.

The plaza was still filled with people. Rented out to fill a thousand or more, more party goers milled about outside through the mazes and fountains, laughing with a breeze that wasn't present. A storm stood frozen just outside and they wished the wind would snap through. But Hakone had more power than that. The sky was a cloudless dome above.

Manami rubbed the sweat from their eyes.

The cobblestones felt better than heels. Thin straps hanging from their fingers, Manami wobbled further away, doing their best to hop from stone to stone. Most weren't large enough. It wasn't like walking down a stream. But they went on, feeling the curve beneath their toes, to slip on their heel in a circle. A gentle gust rose around them alone - not enough to disturb the careful atmosphere. Not enough to draw in the coming storm. Restraint was no talent of theirs, but the lessons still stung like hooks and netting.

"A good heir knows how to hold themself."

Prattling on, preening and pricking, needles and hay they'd rather have lost themself in. Getting here took little more than being noticed. All they had to do was blow through, and they were the only thing in anyone's eyes. Unfortunately, staying was a different matter.

The needle remained upright. Manami did too, through each new piece added, a slow wheel around them. It could hardly be called wind. Maybe it wasn't, some people said, watching them so well. But they preferred calling it that. Dressing it up one way or another, all that mattered was how Manami used what they had, and that meant keeping needles held still on the air instead of blowing them away with a sigh.

Despite the test, they saw Toudou pause, staring at them instead of their show.

"What do you think that means?" she asked.

Manami didn't blink. "Hakone wouldn't be happy with me if I did whatever I felt like doing."

She didn't laugh, or smile, or throw her hair back. Nothing. Toudou was something of a storm herself, but here she stood like the eye.

"Hakone needs people who want to do what they are committing themselves to," she said.

They nodded.

"Then what do you feel like doing with these needles?"

Back then - they'd done nothing but smile.

Melting under the heat of a party and people they could have nothing to do with, here, it was impossible. The estate's edge mocked them, for how much they had already paid for stepping outside once again. Coming and going were not simple things - meeting outsiders, carrying them along, finding friends in supposed enemies, finding otherwise in themself.

The sky could crush them.

Manami spun through another graceful slip - faster. Restraint and control. They didn't care. Empty hands, nothing but air, another step was another spin. The skirt flared up. It cut through space, slicing through till nothing remained, and walked on that, instead. If air rushed back to fill what had been lost, it wasn't a lie to call it a breeze - it was just another way to call on a gale, and that was a victory. A private one, but one nonetheless, after what they'd lost.

Foolish.

Ignoring fingers dwindling and tracing the knuckles of other people's hands, people's shadows melting together by the night, untouchable, unbreathable, untenable.

Their toes nicked concrete.

Manami took the elegant option and slipped into the fountain, just as pleased with ending up there as anywhere else. Coins slid away beneath them - fabric rose to the surface, dancing around their legs, and they leaned back. It was no cooler than above.

"Are you skipping my party?"

But the heat was inescapable.

"Did I not tell you half enough times for you to listen?"

Toudou stood like the eye of a storm, untouched by their personal show.

"Ah," Manami said. They weren't one to stutter. But what to say, they couldn't know. Nothing but pure honesty at how much they didn't want to be there, but that was a disrespectful given. They settled on, "Sorry."

She sighed.

"It's so hot," they yawned. "I can't very well greet people like this. It's such a shame." Running on through pointless distancing thought, it was anything but them. Assumptions. Easy filler.

Light shifted overhead. Manami kept their eyes closed as dew settled against their skin.

"Such a simple problem?" A haughty chuckle. "Manami, you haven't forgotten who I am, have you?"

Wind blew through - real wind, burnt by sun and pollen, sharp and fresh and eternal. Manami sunk further into the pool, sheltered by the flickering shadows of leaves above.

"You mustn't depend on me so much for these favors!" she said - a quiet hope in her voice, too evident, too wanting and excited for the excuse.

A small flicker of fresh morning in the night, till business pulled them back to the night. In the soft temporary light, was the same strange, unspoken, distant concern. Hands pushing too far for something they wouldn't reach.

That happened a lot. Sometimes, it was too much to bear - burning between options they refused. But here, Manami managed to laugh. There was no reason to explain. No reason to ask or want.

But they didn't dislike it.

Remix of [personal profile] babster's Tanaka/Noya fill for BR 2.

Ryuu has been looking at Noya strangely for the past week now and as much as Noya pretends that it doesn’t bother him, it does. He wonders if Ryuu finally noticed how Noya’s heartbeat sped up rapidly whenever his skin came into contact with Ryuu’s, or perhaps he heard Noya confess to Saeko Nee-san the other week about his feelings for Ryuu.

“I don’t know what to do, Nee-san!” Noya had wailed, sitting on Saeko’s bed. Ryuu hadn’t come back from grocery shopping, but Noya let himself into the Tanaka residence anyway with the key that Ryuu had given him in their first year.

“Yuu,” Saeko consoled him, hugging him close. “Listen to me. If you really like Ryuu, you should tell him. Besides, you’d both be so lucky to have each other.”

That comment weighs on Noya’s shoulders for the entire week as he ponders why Ryuu is behaving so weirdly.

Maybe he just doesn’t want anything to do with it, a small voice says inside Noya’s head.

But just say, another small voice pops up, fighting back. What if Ryuu likes you and that’s why he’s acting like that? What if, beneath the sneaky glances and the piggy-back rides, he also feels something a little bit more?

Noya should have known that this ray of hope was too good to be true. He walks in the change room one afternoon after training and sees Ryuu sitting side-by-side with Chikara, their heads so close they’re practically touching.

Noya turns to leave, unable and unwilling to stay and bear the conversation when he catches a few words coming from Chikara after he hits Ryuu on the head affectionately.

“Tanaka, I love you as a friend and all, but sometimes, you can be really daft. Noya has such romantic feelings for you, and if you think that he doesn’t feel the same way that you do, you’re a bigger idiot than I thought.” Though his words are cold, Noya realises that Chikara’s voice is soft and laced with humour.

Ryuu mumbles something incoherent and Chikara lets out a whoop of laughter.

“You can’t be serious?! I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” Chikara shakes his head, sighing. Noya stops in his tracks, straining to hear more, but at the same time, terrified about what he is going to hear. “Look, he could suck you right off and tell you, ‘No homo’ afterwards, but that doesn’t deny the fact that he is also head over heels for you, Ryuu!”

Noya can’t help himself and lets out a chortle at that remark. They both turn around, eyes wide.

Ah, shit.

“Noya?” Ryuu asks, standing up to face him.

“Hey,” Noya raises his hand and waves it casually at them like he hadn’t just heard Ennoshita Chikara telling Ryuu that Noya was going to give him a blowjob.

Chikara takes that as his cue to leave and walks out, giving Ryuu a knowing look.

“Right, so, yeah. Um,” Ryuu starts as he scratches his head. “I don’t know how much of that you got, but, basically,” Ryuu says this all very quickly, “I think you’re, like, cool. Like, really cool. I dunno,” he laughs. “I like you. A lot. So, uh, wanna go out with me? Like … not no homo?”

Noya snorts and stands on his toes to wrap his arms around Ryuu’s neck and gives him a kiss on the cheek. “I would love that, dude. Full homo.”
