Bonus Round 6: Remixes

Bonus Round 6: Remixes

The event's almost over, and you've made it this far, congrats! This round encourages you to look back at everything the SASO has made and use it as inspiration.

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 18 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES
  • Choose a fanwork created by other participants in a previous main or bonus round of SASO and create a new piece based on it. You could create a fanart of another work, an FST inspired by a piece’s style, retell another person’s fanfic from another point of view, create a new fanfic inspired by a great piece of art... go wild!
  • You cannot remix your teammates' works.
  • You must have permission from the original creator. There's a blanket permissions post here (feel free to add yourself to it!), or you can leave a comment on their original post asking for permission.
  • You must include the dreamwidth link to the original work in your post.
  • Since all fills are based on previous works, there will be no prompts for this round. Simply post your fill as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Remix of [personal profile] dynamite and [personal profile] chiharu's BR1 Miki/Miyahara supervillain fill

The internship was good—plenty of real, hands-on work, flexible hours, a bus ride and short walk away from home. It was located next to a really nice café that made some of the best sandwiches Miyahara had ever tasted. It even paid above minimum wage.

All that, however, didn’t seem to convince people it was worth it when she mentioned she was interning for Speed Demon.

“Isn’t she an actual demon?” her classmate asked her. “Why are you working for her? Aren’t you scared?”

“No,” replied Miyahara. “It’s interesting. I’m learning a lot.”

Sangaku, predictably, found the situation deeply amusing.

“Is she tempting you to the dark side?” he asked her one evening. “Or do you make sure she attacks the city on time?”

“She's very punctual, actually,” she huffed. “And anyway, you only know who she is because she rides a road racer.” Sangaku hummed and shrugged, but his eyes shone. Speed Demon didn’t ride just a road racer; her vehicle was the envy of every cyclist in the prefecture, and her signature move of leaving a trail of flames behind her as she wreaked havoc was pretty cool.

“Will you take a picture of it for me?” he asked.

“Only if you get to class on time every day this week,” she said, leaving it up to him whether it was worth it or not.

Miyahara really was learning a lot. Miki (“Please,” the woman had laughed on Miyahara’s first day. “Speed Demon is my supervillain name. My friends call me Miki.” She never gave her family name; Miyahara never asked.) had a surprising number of plans in the works, each requiring a number of factors to be constantly monitored and updated in case something (like lower-than-average humidity or a slightly longer tourist season) made one untenable. Miyahara was also learning how to deal with the press; both the traditional press after one of Speed Demon’s attacks and the underground supervillain press that wanted to run features on her boss.

After several weeks, Miyahara brought Miki her tea and asked a question.

“I was wondering,” she started. Miki looked up, large eyes bright and curious. “In your fights against the Hare, why is it you never use your fire powers to their full effect? He’s fast, of course, but so are you, and I feel certain you could beat him properly if you didn’t hold back.” She bit her lip and looked at Miki, uncertain if she had overstepped but unwilling to take back her question. Miki smiled, wide and lovely.

“You noticed!” she said. “Not many people do. They always assume that he’s better than me, and that’s why he gets off so easily.” She placed her chin in her hands, her gaze distant. “We were friends, he and I, when we were younger. We both loved bikes, you know? We grew apart, and he became who he is and I became Speed Demon, but I don’t want to really hurt him. I think he feels the same; there have been a few times where he could have taken me out, and didn’t.” She lapsed into quiet, and Miyahara stood, equally quiet. Her chest felt tight. She’d never really bought into the idea that Speed Demon was literally a demon, and her internship had only strengthened that belief, but hearing that story drove home how human Miki was, with tender and complicated feelings. And she had trusted Miyahara enough to know that. The weight of that trust made it difficult to breathe for a moment.

“Thank you,” she said, finally. “I appreciate your honesty.” Miki shot her one of the sharp looks that made her so intimidating when she was in costume.

“Was that honesty?” she said lightly. “Oh dear. You won't tell anyone, will you?”

They both knew she wouldn't.

After that, she began to ask Miyahara’s opinion on several of her plans. Miki was meticulous, but so was Miyahara, and she was able to make a few suggestions to maximize impact while minimizing loss of life.

“You have a knack for this,” Miki said on Miyahara’s last week. She leaned against the desk and smiled down at Miyahara. “Have you ever thought about villainy as a career?”

“A little,” Miyahara replied. She took a breath. “Are you asking for a team up?”

Miki laughed and reached out to gently tug one of her pigtails.

“Maybe.”
