Bonus Round 1: AUs

AUs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

This popular round is back once again! To begin this year's SASO, we encourage you to let your mind run wild with alternate ideas and settings.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

***

For the eleventh time that day, Himuro tells himself that he isn't jealous.

It works just as well as it did the first ten times which is to say, not at all. He rides ahead on his horse, scouting the road for any signs of a potential ambush, while Murasakibara rides behind him. For a court magician, Murasakibara doesn't seem to have very much interest in more complex styles of magic. For the majority of their ride since they left the last tavern they stayed at, he's been playing idly with a ball of magic that he's collected in his hand, making it float, spark and change colour. It's the cheapest of cheap parlour tricks that anyone with magic can do; Himuro can do it himself because he's put in the time and effort to learn, and the most frustrating thing is that when he does, it's nowhere near as beautiful as when Murasakibara does it idly just to keep himself occupied on a long horse ride.

"Hey, Muro-chin," Murasakibara calls from behind. "When are we going to get to the next tavern? I'm hungry."

"Again?" Himuro asks, sighing as he glances at the sun's position. It can't have been two hours since the last time they've stopped for food. He reaches into his pack, fingers closing around an apple, and tosses it backwards. "Here."

"An apple?" Murasakibara sounds entirely unimpressed. "Is that the best you have? I want something sweet."

"Apples are sweet," Himuro says through his teeth.

"Okay," Murasakibara concedes. "I want sweets."

"I'm a knight, Atsushi," Himuro reminds him, as patiently as he is able. "I'm not exactly in the position to carry wrapped cakes with me everywhere I go."

"Hmm." Murasakibara rummages through his own bag and then hums again, happier this time, as he procures something from it. Himuro doesn't even need to glance backwards to know that it's a wrapped cake.

"Which tavern did you steal that from?" Himuro asks. "I don't want to get into trouble."

"They gave it to me," Murasakibara replies. "They had a leaking roof and I fixed it, so they made a big deal out of it. I don't really care about any of that, but at least I got cake."

Himuro grits his teeth together. For the most part, he can get along with Murasakibara, but this is the one thing that constantly bothers him. He's wanted to be a magician his entire life, but his meagre magic ability keeps him from doing anything more than tricks and illusions. He can make simple things look flashy, but he knows that it's nothing compared to what others can do. He's had to settle for his life as a knight instead and he's good at this too, but he yearns to have even a fraction of the magic that Murasakibara has; he knows he wouldn't squander it, refusing to let it develop into what it truly could be, the way Murasakibara does.

He's so distracted by his own jealousy that he doesn't see the bandits until he hears Murasakibara's alarmed shout.

There are five mounted bandits, severely outnumbering the two of them, but Himuro draws his sword anyway. It's his court-appointed duty to protect Murasakibara on their journey; he's either going to succeed or die trying. It's his duty.

Before he can even pull it up to swing at the nearest bandit, a wall of flame rises around them. Himuro's horse whinnies and freezes in her tracks. He soothes it with one hand, glancing sideways to find Murasakibara with his hand raised, maintaining the magic around them in a ring, protecting them from the bandits.

"Atsushi," Himuro calls, "they have a bowman."

"So annoying," Murasakibara grumbles, spreading both his hands out and making the fire grow taller. The bowman has an arrow nocked already though, and lets fly. Himuro realises that it's coming towards him, too late to move out of its path.

Murasakibara growls under his breath, and the arrow stops in its tracks, a mere hand width from Himuro's face. With a low mutter of a language Himuro doesn't understand, the arrow turns in the opposite direction and goes flying back. Himuro blinks with surprise as the bowman drops from his horse, the wall of flame expanding out and chasing away the others, down the road and over the hills until they're out of sight.

"You saved me," Himuro breathes, his shoulders sagging with relief as he finally registers the fact that they're both uninjured.

"You're my knight," Murasakibara replies, as if that's enough of an explanation. "Let's go."

Letting Murasakibara ride ahead, Himuro smiles to himself. Maybe it is enough.

himuro's seething jealousy turning into admiration (or being overpowered by the adoration that's always been there) is a journey that's always a pleasure to read and esp in your luscious style *__*
