Bonus Round 1: AUs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
- An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
- Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

You don’t know how much I love Alexander the Great/Hephaestion, I WROTE A MODERN AU OF IT ONCE, I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Kept this short, I didn’t have the heart to write up to Oikawa!Alexander getting married and conquering and dying. Just teens in loves.
***
The heat of the room is sticky-humid, the fine linens of Alexander’s bed dampened with cool water to let the boys sleep in peace. Hephaestion cannot sleep for Alexander’s nearness; Alexander cannot sleep for Hephaestion’s beauty.
They linger there together, lying awake and longing.
*
“I want no erastes,” Hephaestion says, tickling Alexander’s chest with a daisy. Golden pollen smears over Alexander’s golden muscles; he is crowned by gold, even bare-headed, and the sight of Alexander always inspires Hephaestion to think thoughts most blasphemous.
(Should Apollo himself come down and ask Hephaestion to judge between himself, Eros and Alexander, Hephaestion would choose Alexander though he die for it. Eyes love-blinded cannot be dazzled by the glory of the gods.)
“Why not?” Alexander asks, stretched out on his side and watching Hephaestion fondly. “Many in my father’s court have already suggested they would be open to the honor.”
“So I have heard,” Hephaestion says, eyes on Alexander’s muscles rather than his friend’s face. “But I would have none of them.”
“They can help you rise,” Alexander cautioned but he reached out and let one hand rest on Hephaestion’s bare skin. The skin was sunwarmed, stretched thinly over developing muscle, and Alexander heard the catch of Hephaestion’s breath.
Suddenly, Hepheastion was on him, just as when they were children and play-wrestled. He leaned over Alexander and blocked out the sun, unholy and unrestrained.
“I want no favor that does not come from you,” Hephaestion murmurs and Alexander drinks the words down like the nectar of the gods.
Alexander would never be an eromenos, would never have an erastes. He was the son of a king and could never yield to another.
But to take Hephaestion, who was so close in age to him…
Hesphaestion’s tunic hem dragged against Alexander’s thighs and a rich moan spilled from Alexander’s lips. Under the sun, in his friend’s shadow, he was lost and found and remade.
*
“Would you have really wed her?” Hephaestion asks later, much later, when the elders of Alexander’s circle have been sent away and Alexander has received a proper tongue lashing from his father over the Pixodarus affair.
“No,” Alexander says bluntly, raising a goblet to his mouth and then to Hephaestion’s. “But I would have made sure of it that she did not marry my father’s bastard. He has no right to a throne, even if it is only the throne of Caria. I would not allow him to gain so much power.”
“But one day,” Hephaestion says, the wine bitter in his mouth, “You will wed.”
“Yes,” Alexander admits after a short pause, turning to press his mouth to Hephaestion’s, murmuring his words against Hephaestion’s mouth, “But I will never love any other but you.”
He brands his promise into Hephaestion’s lips with a fire-forged kiss and Hephaestion feels the truth of them settle into his very bones.

Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
(OH HEY. YOU'RE LIN. I'm the demon Lira keeps talking about on Twitter!)
And that sounds like an excellent doujin! Have you read Mary Renault's books on Alexander?
Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
I haven't read those books yet, but they've been rec'd to me (nods toward dw user plumtea lol) and definitely on the To-Do list!!
Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
THANKS FOR REASSURING ME YOU CAN SEE OIKAWA AND IWAIZUMI IN IT. I was a little worried because really, Oikawa and Iwaizumi bicker SO MUCH but I can't see Hephaestion being so disrespectful as to call Alexander shitty or anything, so when he argues with Oikawa as Hephaestion, it's more "i only want your favor" and "I subtly disapprove of the idea of you marrying the Princess of Caria" and less "you are a stupid shitty king".
They are just so smitten and forever and I want to hold to those golden movements of love.
(HELLO. :D I did not think so many of us liked sports too!)
Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
YES let them be happy, this little snapshot in their youth before everything happens is just- argh, I want this to last for longer!
(I didn't expect it either, but here we all are! Also I saw you mention the Renault books to Lin and mmmMMMMM)
Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
Yeah, exactly! Alexander was a REAL prince, after all, as opposed to just a Grand King. But I could totally see their private bickering being both super adorable and super serious because Hephaestion won't let Alexander make the wrong decisions, prince or no prince.
I LOVE MARY RENAULT. I don't know where I got a copy of The Charioteer from but I was absolutely HOOKED. And then I read her Alexander stuff and was all ...yes please this is great. Charioteer is still my favorite though. She has such a knack for writing lines that stick in your head.
The description of Ralph as having the bleak courage of the self-disciplined neurotic just stuck with me forever. I want to write like that. Things that resonate and ring true and stay with you long after you've closed the book.
Re: FILL: TEAM PRINCE OF TENNIS, T
She really has a way with words, and shows love so genuinely? Especially how it builds up over time, and I adore it so much? Unfortunately, I haven't read the Charioteer, just the Alexander trilogy, but I will definitely put it on my reading list!

You captured this very tender moment between them and hrghh this makes me soft. It's so gentle and they adore each other so much? I also like how you made it look like a yellowed scroll!
I've been staring at this for a day and it's fantastic!

The night after a successful campaign is filled with merriment and fine wine. The armies are chattering in the distant, between crackles of campfire and rowdy music. He’s had his share of meat and drink when Hephaestion comes to sit by his side.
“What a day,” he says, and downs his remaining wine. “But a good one.”
Hephaestion finishes his own glass. “What a surprise that she mistook me for you.”
Sisygambis had dropped to her knees, pleading for the great king to find it in his heart to spare her and her daughters. Hephaestion had blinked through his confusion and politely— far politer than any tone he uses around him— told the queen that she was mistaken. If it had been any other man that she knelt to, he would have been displeased, but Hephaestion is his dearest friend, his loyal general, the man he had given himself to and who’d given him everything in return.
Hephaestion smirks at him, all teeth. “But I am taller.”
“That will not last for long!” he protests. Even if it’s unbecoming of a king, he doesn’t need to be a ruler right now. “You shall see, in the next world!”
He loves it when Hephaestion laughs and ruffles his curly hair. Normally, he’d never allow anyone to touch him so casually, but Hephaestion is the exception. He has always been the exception.
The heat of wine simmers in his stomach, and he sits back to watch the stars shine above. Hephaestion’s hand is on his shoulder, warmer than the haze of wine. He leans into Hephaestion’s hand, and his heart races so fiercely that he’s surprised it hasn’t leapt from his chest.
“Thank you, my friend,” he says, “I cannot imagine what this day would be like without you.”
It’s his destiny to rule, and to conquer the land before him. When he reaches the borders of the maps, he will conquer the land beyond that, until his might is known throughout the entire world.
—But he’s eternally grateful Hephaestion decided to join him in battle. If Hephaestion had stayed behind to live the life of a member of the court, then nothing would be the same. He could never have looked forward over the horizon without turning back. He would have to suffer the agony of being apart from half his soul.
“You would not have been nearly as successful, that much I can tell you.” When he makes a displeased sound in his throat, Hephaestion grins. “Even if you can shine on your own, do you think I would let you fight your battles alone? Never.”
If only he really was the child of Zeus, then he could will the stars down from the sky and thread them around Hephaestion’s head. But looking at Hephaestion now, with his hair framed against the night sky, is just as good.

Oikawa’s probably seen Godzilla vs. Biollante at least five times by now, but if Iwaizumi can tolerate his alien movies, then he can tolerate Iwaizumi’s kaiju films.
“Hey, Iwa-chan.” Oikawa shifts on the bed to poke at Iwaizumi’s cheek. “Want to hear about the dream I had?”
“You’re ruining the movie,” Iwaizumi doesn’t look up from where he’s sitting on the floor, but Oikawa knows that he’s listening anyway.
“I dreamed that I was a great king with a huge army! I spread my empire all across the land, a long, long time ago.”
“Is this the one where you had horns and I was a knight and beat you up?”
“That was last week! But you were there too, Iwa-chan, as a general who fought by my side.” Who had loved him so much that when they finally separated, the sun inside his heart grew dim and never lit up again. “Even if you didn’t look anything like you do now, I know it was you.”
A roar from the TV, as Godzilla is pierced by acid vines. “How do you know that?”
“Don't be ridiculous. After all this time, you think I wouldn’t recognize you?”
Iwaizumi finally turns back to look at him. “No way. And even if you end up forgetting, I’d recognize you too.”
Oikawa's ribs feel tight, and he thinks about how he'd never pick anyone else to be by his side.
They’d find each other the next life, and the next life, and the next.
