Bonus Round 1: AUs
SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
- An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
- Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

It started with his goggles.
“Eh, did anyone see my goggles?” Nishina pulled out his clothes and towel from the cubby a second time, searching for them, but still didn’t see them. “Everyone, check your goggles for me, make sure you have your own.”
The problem about being a sponsored high school swim team was that everyone had to use the same equipment. This was exactly why they labeled their jackets, racing suits, caps, and goggles to make sure that mix up didn’t happen. Or, well, happen often.
“Maybe you left them at home?” Ichitora suggests, leaning against his back and looking in the cubby too. “It wouldn’t be the first time, dearest captain.”
“Yeah, yeah. Rub it in more.”
“Here.” Another pair of the familiar goggles dangled in front of his eyes, Ichitora clearly labeled on the inside of the strap. “Use my extras for the day. Just don’t forget to loosen them again since you love to kill your eyes.”
Nishina grabbed the goggles, rolling his eyes. “At least I never have to worry about my goggles filling up with water off my start and having to deal with it the entire race. Unlike someone else. And by someone else, I mean you.”
“Oi!”
And the missing goggles were immediately forgotten in favor of dodging Ichitora’s tackle, the familiarity of wrestling his best friend on the floor of the locker room comforting as he snapped the waistband of his suit in retaliation.
By the time they finally stopped, the rest of the team had already left for the pool. But sitting on the bench were a pair of goggles, the obvious Nishina standing out in his unique red ink, being the only one on the team to use the color.
“I guess someone found them?” Ichitora commented and Nishina shrugged. They had only been wrestling for a few minutes and the team knew they could break them up any time. Something seemed off.
“I guess. I’ll worry about it later. Coach is going to kill us for being late.”

He ended up worrying about it the next day. And the next. And the next.
Everyday, Nishina had something missing. Sometimes, it was just a towel, or his extra shirt, or his jacket, all things that weren’t too big a deal because he would just wear his school uniform home. It was the days that his suit or goggles were missing (goggles were the number one thing usually missing to the point that Ichitora walked into every practice and threw his spares at Nishina before changing) that made things hard.
Their coach chewed him out the third time his suit was missing, saying that the captain should be the one setting the standard for team responsibility and he walked out of the office with his ears ringing. It wasn’t like he was never yelled at before, but the team winced in sympathy as he tried and failed to smile at them.
“Looks like you’re having a rough time, captain~” Taira skipped up next to him, always full of so much energy. Nishina never understood backstrokers. “Any luck on finding your suit or goggles?”
“No, but my replacements should be in today.” He slumped on a bench behind the blocks, waiting for their manager to come over with today’s practice. “Shouldn’t you be stretching?”
Taira only smiled that wide mischievous smile of reeked of trouble.
“Taira…”
“I already stretched with Reo!”
Fujikawa Reo was clearly stretching with another swimmer at the moment and Nishina raised an eyebrow.
“I mean. I stretched by myself.”
His eyebrow reached higher.
“Okay, I skipped stretching. But!! I was just concerned about you because uh, the whole team sorta heard you getting yelled at and it’s not like it’s your fault that your stuff keeps disappearing and reappearing. Whoever is doing it certainly wants your attention.”
“Attention, huh? That’s one way of putting it.” He crossed his legs and leaned against the wall. “Whatever, things will be sorted out soon and whoever is behind it, maybe they’ll finally let me live. Inter high is soon and I don’t need this stress. If they want my attention, they can just ask for it.”
“So can I have your attention? Will you look at me?” Taira’s voice turned serious and the wide smile dropped off his face.
Nishina felt his eyes widen in shock, not expecting a response like that. But when Taira started laughing, he let out the breath he didn’t realize he was holding.
“You should have seen your face, captain!! I totally got you!” Taira kept laughing as he walked away to his normal target, now that Fujikawa had finished stretching.
Shaking his head at the team and swimmers that he lead, Nishina watched him start to bother Fujikawa until something caught his eye.
Tucked into the waistband of his suit were Taira’s goggles, an odd flash of red on the strap.
