Bonus Round 2: Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic-Tac-Toe

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Get three in a row! That's the goal of this bonus round. Inspired by a fanwork event type called kink bingo, this round encourages you to create and fill out themed prompt cards.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. There's a lot of text here, but if you read carefully and follow the instructions step by step, you will be okay.

RULES
Please refer to the first comment thread of this post for an example of how this round works.

PROMPTING

  1. Select a ship to create your prompt card about. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Haruki & Kazuma). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Haruki/Kazuma). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

  2. Visit this card generator.
    • Here is a visual guide to using it.
    • The large text box is where you can list prompts if you have your own ideas. Please list at least 9 prompts; you can list more if you want. (The generator says you need at least 24, but it's lying.) Single words or short phrases are better than sentences.
    • Otherwise, you can use the dropdown menu found right below it. Note: some of these prompts lists are NSFW. (NSFW prompts are a-ok as long as you tag for it.) If you don't like some of the options that appear in a prompt list, you can delete them.
    • Text prompts only, please. Also, each card square must be unique—don't list the same prompt 9 times.
    • In "Configuration Options," make sure you select 3x3 and (Normal prompt). This is the most important step!
    • Leave the tic-tac-toe card with its default colors, so everyone can read it clearly.
    • Click the "Create a bingo card" button.
    • Scroll down to see the card that was created for you. If you don't like the prompts it picked, you can reroll by clicking "Create a bingo card" again.
    • When you're satisfied, scroll further down the page until you see a textarea box full of HTML.
  3. Copy and paste the HTML from the box and into the body of your prompt comment, then post!

FILLING

Fill prompts by selecting an individual square to create fanwork for, then leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. (Optional:) If you can fill three squares from a prompt in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, you get a tic-tac-toe (and an additional point bonus)! You can also just fill prompts as you please and get standard points.
  • Prompt squares are labeled as follows:
    A1 B1 C1
    A2 B2 C2
    A3 B3 C3
  • If you're trying for tic-tac-toe, you cannot combine squares into one fill. If your fill can satisfy multiple squares, pick the most relevant square: e.g., one square is sailing and another is pirates and you make a fill about pirates sailing, it's mostly pirates so put down the pirates square.
  • Each fill must stand alone as an individual piece, but all your fills can slot into a larger universe if you'd like.
  • You cannot fill a prompt square more than once, but you can fill every square on a tic tac toe card if you want to.
  • You cannot work with your teammates to get a tic-tac-toe. Only individually achieved tic-tac-toes get the bonus.
  • Multiple people can fill the same prompt square. You cannot "block" others from getting tic-tac-toe.
  • Remember to also follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

For prompts: 5 points for each tic-tac-toe card (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each
Tic-tac-toe Bonus: 2 points each for the first 12 achieved by your team

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

***

Yuri Plisetsky has no idea how this happened.

This had all started with what he had assumed was some entirely called-for gloating. He'd even planned out how to get it done subtly and with the exact amount of shoving his gold medal right in JJ's face without being too too mean. Though, honestly, he doesn’t care how mean it might be. JJ has done nothing but gloat and brag and be ridiculously, unnecessarily annoying all season.

Yuri is tired of it. Yuri is done. And finally, finally he can shove his higher placement back into JJ’s stupid grin.

It takes a little time after the ceremony to find him - there are a lot of congratulations in order. He spends some time talking to Yuuri, and Viktor. A couple of journalists stop him for a few questions. But he does get to him, eventually, his medal wrapped tightly around his right fist.

“JJ!”

The other skater jumps, simultaneously looking up and pulling out an earbud from where he’d been squatting and going through his bag in the hallway. He looks tired, Yuri notices at first, but he ignores it and walks up to him.

"I won.”

"Yeah? I mean, congratulations." JJ stands, looking more than just a little hurt. Like there is some heavy weight digging at his shoulders. Part of Yuri almost feels bad, but a louder part plows through, exhilarated that his time has finally come.

“I beat you. It's over."

JJ blinks, confused now. “What?”

"It's over. Whatever little rivalry thing we had going on? Done. I won. There's nothing else you can do."

"I don't know what you're-"

"I beat you, JJ! You're not the king anymore! I won!” He hasn’t realized just how much is pent up, but the immediate lack of understanding from JJ sends all of his thoughts pouring out.

“I don't have to look at your stupid face up on the podium ever again. I don't have to listen to you sing your stupid song.” Yuri points, the gold medal swinging from the motion of it. He feels himself grinning, his eyes wide, like he can finally breathe, like it’s finally happening. The moment he’s waited for, a moment that has been a long time coming. It’s finally here.

“I won! It’s over!”

There is a brief, weighted silence that sits between them. Yuri can hear himself breathe, can hear his own heartbeat ringing loudly in his ears. JJ watches him, his own eyes wide, before there is something that comes over him.

"You don't believe that."

Yuri freezes, not expecting the response and therefore not sure how he is supposed react at all. JJ suddenly seems a lot more put together than he had a few moments before, a lot more calm, and in turn, Yuri feels more angry - a quick pitch of heat in his chest.

"What the fuck are you saying?"

JJ shrugs. "You don't believe you're done." The pause that follows feels cold, but JJ just smiles. A kind of warmer smile than before, something that echoes there's the JJ I wanted to beat deep in Yuri's mind.

"And you're not. You might have gold, but Yuuri still beat your free skate score. And Viktor will be back.” JJ then shrugs, despite how Yuri can see something dark in his eyes. “I still managed to get third, too, despite my mistakes, too. I might have choked, but I still placed, thanks to the support of my family and fans.”

Yuri tightens his hands into fists at his side, feeling his body start to shake with anger. “That’s not the point! I beat you!”

“You didn’t, though.”

“What?”

JJ leans down to pick up his bag, pulling the strap over his shoulders. The easy movement annoys Yuri more than he can even say. They’re having a conversation here and JJ just-

“You didn’t beat me.” There’s a beat before his continues. “I beat me. I let the pressure get to my head and I cracked under it. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t have stood a chance.” The more he talks, the more Yuri hears that obnoxious confidence creep back into his words. He feels like he’s losing grip on this thing, and JJ is taking it back. “My fans believed in me even when I didn’t. But that’s okay, because next year I will too. And then I’ll take my place as King once and for all. This isn’t the end of the reign of King JJ~”

It’s nearly cinematic, which Yuri immediately decides is the worst part about it. Watching JJ move from his quiet, heavy stature to what is currently posed before him. The slow transition from slouch to stance, from shadow to blinding. JJ has his hand poised before him, like he’s reaching for some imaginary thing up in the air. Like some absurd pose he would take if he was getting his picture taken, when it’s really just the two of them in this hallway.

“Because that’s the new me, my new JJ sty-”

“I hate you.” The words drip with vitriol, hot and slow, as Yuri glares - cutting through JJ’s moment. “I hate everything about you.”

For a brief moment, JJ stills, looking over to the other skater with a mix of curiosity and potential...pain? But with another blink, both are gone, and JJ simply drops his hands and starts towards Yuri.

The movement catches him off-guard, and he nearly trips stepping back away from the quickly approaching JJ. His retreat is abruptly cut off as he hits the wall behind him, and JJ takes the two more steps to close the distance, looking down at Yuri with a complicated kind of smile.

He hates the differences in their height. Hates the way JJ looks at him. Like he can see right through, like he can see more. Yuri pushes up on the balls of his feet instinctively, though the extra couple of inches don’t help much.

“You don’t believe that either.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about! You-” He’s not panicking, but he’s definitely speaking faster.

JJ grins in response, setting his hands on his hips. “You don’t actually hate me, and you don’t believe this-” he motions between them for brief second before returning his hand to his hip. He’s so close and Yuri feels his chest tighten for some ungodly reason. “Is over either. If you don’t believe it, it’s not true, so-” JJ straightens back up, a very subtle movement that Yuri cannot stand. “-this rivalry? Definitely not over. I look forward to skating against you next year, Yuri. Let’s see who really deserves that medal.”

There is an explosive anger that rears up in his chest, but right as Yuri is about to step forward to close the distance himself, JJ’s head turns down the hallway.

“Hey! Otabek! Have you been there long? Oh, and have you eaten yet? You blew me off last time but we should definitely-”

JJ’s comments trail off as he steps away from Yuri and starts down the hallway, and Yuri can feel Otabek’s eyes on him. That same not-quite-hard stare that Yuri has gotten used to seeing over the last couple of days. Yuri looks up just in time to watch JJ slide an arm around Otabek’s shoulders and pull him away, still talking, but Otabek’s eyes are still Yuri even as they walk away.

Yuri is the one to pull his eyes away, turning his back to the two other skaters and storming off back down the hallway. He doesn’t know why he even tried, honestly, because any of that happy excitement he’d just had about finally proving he could do all of this was now gone.

Instead, what replaces it was a different kind of feeling. Something driven, something restless. They have the exhibition tomorrow, sure, but this is more than that. His fist tightens around the fabric holding his medal, feeling the cold weight of it bounce in his hand.

I need to start training.

This was really great! I love Yuri and his subtlety and JJ and his rising confidence and all the tension between them. And Otabek is the icing on the cake, the way he just instantly complicates all of Yuri's feelings.

Thank you so much for filling my prompt!
