Bonus Round 3: FSTs

FSTs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

The ‘If the stars were mine’ song caught me hard. So, yeah, divinity/incarnation AU.

***

“Here,” Oikawa says and holds out his latest gift to Ushijima. It’s a rectangle of gold, draped with ribbons, showing a city set against mountains. Pale white spires rise high into the sky, gleaming against the green of the mountains, and the sky is a blue so deep and soft that it looks like cloth. Orange oceans lap against golden beaches and Ushijima can hear the faintest snatch of birdsong warbling out.

Ushijima reaches out and pinches the air just above the painting. The paint comes free, leaving behind a blank canvas, and he drapes the painting around his shoulders like a cloak. He can feel the scurrying of small lifeforms in the cloth, the warmth of a sun over his shoulders and the coolness of twilight at his spine. Below, at his feet, the painting spills over into inky blackness dotted with the swirling, colored orbs of other planets and sparkling stars like the tiniest of sequins.

“Thank you,” he says because he has learnt that if he does not thank Oikawa for his gifts, no matter how useless, Oikawa will sulk for eons as universes die and are born. Oikawa’s ability to sulk is one of the most reliable forces in the multiverse.

“...It wasn’t for wearing,” Oikawa says, but Ushijima’s thanks seems to have mollified him.

“Then what was it for?” Ushijima asks.

“For growing. For evolving. For--” And there is a touch of color now on Oikawa’s cheeks. “--Living in.”

“Ah.” Ushijima thinks he understands. “You wish to incarnate ourselves.”

“It has been a long while since we’ve done so.” Oikawa reached out and brushed his fingertips over a field in the painting. Flowers blossomed, turning green spread to yellow instead. “And this world would be perfect for us.”

“I’ll see you in our mortal life,” Ushijima says and sweeps the painting off his shoulders. He throws it over both of their heads and stars rain down over them. Caught in Oikawa’s eyelashes, they sparkle at at him like a promise, like Oikawa’s smile.

He’s born smiling, born knowing that somewhere out there is his own heart’s love and they will meet again.

*

“Here,” Oikawa says and sets a jar of water and glitter onto the bedside table. “Captured stars, just for you.”

“Cheesy,” Ushijima says because he’s only nineteen and it takes eons to learn how to handle Oikawa, eons that neither of them know yet that they’ll have.

Oikawa feigns a pout, then opens the jar. Too quickly for Ushijima to reach, Oikawa dips his hand inside, then smears his glittering fingertips over Ushijima’s face. Ushjima’s hand closes around Oikawa’s wrist to stop him but by then it’s too late.

They freeze like that, glitter dripping down Ushijima’s face in watery trails, and Oikawa smiles suddenly.

“Somehow,” he muses, kissing Ushijima’s wet lips for just a second, “It suits you to wear the stars.”

I don't even know you well enough to personally attack you! But I'm glad that it hit you right. XDDD I had fun writing it and just the mental image of them with glitter/stars raining down over them was so so pretty to me. XD

Thanks for a fun prompt!

the movie they're watching in the beginning is arrival :')

***

Their hands touch and it's incidental, nowhere near monumental—they are in a movie house, and unfolding on the screen is a saga about language and time, which neither of them had anticipated going in. Oikawa had mentioned something about aliens and it being nominated for an Academy Award, which is as stellar a recommendation as any.

The theater is silent—there are no quips to laugh at, no explosions to overwhelm the audience. It's an atmospheric kind of film, sentimental in a quiet way, and it is not the kind that Ushijima would see himself on a normal day.

But no day is normal anymore, not when he spends most of them with Oikawa.

And so, a story about love and about loss, and perhaps it would have been more like a typical romance if they'd seen a horror movie, with Oikawa clutching at his arm at all the scary parts—though Oikawa does not frighten easily—or an action movie, with their fingers brushing as they reach for popcorn at the same time.

But this time, it is Oikawa's hand finds his on the armrest as the climax transpires, not particularly like he had been searching for it, just wanting something to hold onto. Ushijima's hand is as good an anchor as any, it seems, because his hand stays there, warm and a welcome weight. After a moment, Ushijima turns his over so their palms could be pressed together, and Oikawa does not pull away.

-

The best place to stargaze would have been in a wide field, with no skyscrapers, no neon signs—which can have their own appeal, though not when this mood strikes. Somewhere with no light pollution to dilute the effect would have been the most ideal, but they are only university students with a limited funds and time, so the planetarium it is.

There is something ridiculous about Oikawa's obsession with space, which he'd divulged as something he'd been harboring since he was a child, but it is endearing too. It suits him, Ushijima thinks, that he keeps his gaze at a faraway place, always striving for something higher, beyond what humans can physically reach. Oikawa is made of infinite possibilities and probabilities, and Ushijima is grateful that one of them led to this: to standing with him under a makeshift blanket of constellations, manufactured but no less bright when they trace the curves and planes of Oikawa's face, sculpting him out of moonshine.

Tempting, to lift his hand to Oikawa's cheek and see if he is made of marble, though Ushijima knows otherwise. Oikawa's tongue may be cutting and his eyes occasionally sharp, but he is softness when it counts, his expression oddly vulnerable as they listen to the narration about the different planets, the galaxy which currently houses them both.

"I never get tired of this," says Oikawa, as if he is hearing it all for the first time. "No matter how many times I go. Kind of silly, huh?"

"No," says Ushijima, and he would add it's beautiful without looking at the stars, but right now he wants to see what Oikawa sees, even if he doesn't have the eye for it.

He tips his head back and looks at the ceiling, feeling that much closer to Oikawa even if they are not touching.

-

Oikawa invites him to a club, and Ushijima acquiesces, even if it is not his usual scene. He had once thought that he would be the one leading Oikawa to better pastures, but so far it is Oikawa who is always going forward, tugging him along to new experiences. He does not leave Ushijima behind, which is the important part; the part that assures that Ushijima will always say yes.

They perch at the bar as Oikawa calls out to the bartender, picking out a drink for Ushijima himself. The music is too loud to hear Oikawa properly, so he leans closer, inviting Oikawa to whisper in his ear.

"I'm dragging you to the dance floor after this."

Ushijima nods, his lips slightly curved down in confusion. "I had thought that was why we came."

Oikawa blinks, his own lips splitting open in a surprised smile. "I didn't expect it to be this easy. You're always throwing me off, Ushiwaka-chan."

Ushijima does not mention that he is easy only when it comes to Oikawa, which is just as well, because their drinks arrive and Oikawa clinks their shot glasses, downing his in one go.

"Come on," says Oikawa, their fingers twining in the middle of Ushijima knocking his shot back. "I wanna see your moves."

On the outskirts of the dance floor, Oikawa guides his Ushijima's hands onto his hips, and the way he sways along to the thumping bass is far more innocent than those of the floor's other occupants. Ushijima's head swims nevertheless, and it is not from the alcohol. He tries his hardest to keep up, and Oikawa seems to take pity, turning around to press his back against Ushijima's chest instead.

"No one's watching," says Oikawa, and Ushijima nods again, and starts to move in time—not along to the music's steady beat, but to Oikawa's motions, felt instead of seen in the dark.

"Yeah," says Oikawa, shakily, as Ushijima, unthinking, tucks a kiss into his neck. "Just like that."

oh gossshhh i love all the quiet little moments in this SO MUCH

Oikawa's hand finds his on the armrest as the climax transpires, not particularly like he had been searching for it, just wanting something to hold onto
I love how this feels like a metaphor for their whole relationship, like neither of them were particularly searching for this, or for each other, but now they've found it, it's just what they both needed.

Ushijima does not mention that he is easy only when it comes to Oikawa
UUUGHHHHH i love how much is unsaid between them, how much they both have still to learn about each other
