Bonus Round 3: FSTs

FSTs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

If you see anyone breaking the code of conduct (e.g., causing drama, being rude) anywhere (not just DW), please contact the mods immediately.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

“You’re not still thinking about him, are you?”

The words jolt Inui out of a stupor that he hadn’t realized he had fallen into. He takes stock of himself quickly; hand wrapped around a racket, feet firmly placed on the grounding clay of the court. He stares forward at the back wall he had been hitting against, and thinks back, recalling the trajectory of the last ball he’d hit, and follows it’s imagined path of bouncing and rolling (he’d missed it, though isn’t even sure if he swung at it) and finds it stopped beneath Fuji’s shoe.

Inui turns, frowning at Fuji.

“What?” he asks, lacking eloquence.

“Your old partner,” Fuji asks, tilting his head just so. “Your last match, it seemed… intense.”

Inui swallows; though there’s nothing there, his throat feels constricted. “It’s nothing.”

“You’ve been out here for hours,” Fuji says.

How he knows that, Inui doesn’t feel like speculating. He’s spent too much of his time trying to decipher the ways of Fuji’s knowledge, but now he feels he doesn’t have the power to spare.

“Training,” Inui says. He feels his grip on the racket slipping, and redoubles his strength on it. “Just training.”

Yanagi still occupies a part of Inui’s being that he can’t quantify, no matter how hard he tries.

“Try this grip tape,” Inui says, holding the rolls gently in his fingers. “My calculations have shown that it will provide 30% more stability to your hold,” he continues, but in his mind it’s not his own voice he hears.

In some ways, Inui feels like Yanagi never left him; the other half of him that just one day was suddenly gone, and Inui was left to piece together a gestalt from what remained. He feels like he’s been ineptly playing a part, and everyone has been too kind to bring it up. He plays at being helpful, being knowledgeable, being all the things that Yanagi was to him for anyone who will accept it.

But in the end… he’s not.

Seeing Yanagi in the flesh, after all these years, after all this distance. There’s something else in the way he moves, the way he interacts with his teammates. There’s something altogether different in the way he holds himself, in the way he speaks.

He’s changed.

When Inui looks directly in his face, only for Yanagi to stare back, cold, emotionless.

It’s not what Inui imagined.

“Do you ever think about what it would have been like?”

Inui lays exhausted in the grass, hoping the dew will soak up all of the heat of his body, but this makes him freeze to his core.

Of all people, he didn’t expect Yanagi to come looking for him.

But, then, Inui remembers, Yanagi was always better about calculating the odds.

Inui looks up at him, but doesn’t say anything.

“You’ve changed, Sadaharu,” Yanagi says, and Inui feels too exposed, too vulnerable on the ground.

I’ve changed?”

Yanagi nods.

They share a silence between them like this, just grass and sky and slowly setting sun and a silence that wraps around them, like protective film over an ancient artifact. This moment could be preserved for all eternity if they let it.

Inui feels the silence pressing in on him, almost choking him, and decides…

Maybe he has.

Inui steps forward, and in response to an unspoken request, Fuji moves back. Inui’s muscles ache and scream as he bends over to retrieve the tennis ball that he’d missed. He practiced himself to the bone, and then some. But what his goal was… he couldn’t put words to that either.

“I have to… keep going.” I have to change, he thinks, but doesn’t say that out loud. He doesn’t have good answers for the questions that would provoke.

Fuji raises an eyebrow, but says nothing, perhaps knowing it wouldn’t do any good. “I see.”

Inui thinks, maybe, he does. But he might be the only one.
