Bonus Round 3: FSTs

FSTs

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
  • Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

“You know Oikawa-san quite well, correct?”

It sounds like a threat, and Iwaizumi stares stony-faced at piece of wall right behind the head coach’s ear, not yet willing to meet his eyes. It sounds like a threat because of the chilly formality with which his coaches, his managers, and his trainers are treating him, all of them cowered in this dingy, rarely-used conference room. It sounds like a threat because they all know that to say Iwaizumi knows Oikawa quite well is the understatement of the century.

It sounds like a threat because it is one. Iwaizumi knows as soon as he answers he’s going to be asked to do something he desperately doesn’t want to do.

The manager of the Japanese National Volleyball Team is a slender man with sharp eyes and hair slicked so tight against his head it looks painful. He adjusts his glasses before addressing Iwaizumi, “We believe it would be better if our concerns came from you, because you two are close. If Oikawa-san were to understand it’s in his best interest to retire.”

“No way,” Iwaizumi says, speaking faster than his mind can think, “Oikawa has plenty of time left on his knee. And you all know I’m always on him for that shit.”

“Exactly,” their manager says, as if that explains anything, “So your word holds more weight.”

“It’s too…” the team’s physical therapist, seated to Iwaizumi’s left, pipes up, “The situation is tentative. He could have plenty of time. But one accident could set him back, and we don’t have that time. It’s more prudent to bring Miya-san in as the starting setter.”

“Any other year,” one of the assistant coaches says, “Any other year it might be fine. But for Oikawa not to be in peak form might mean the difference between a silver medal and a gold medal. For that to happen when the Olympics are in Tokyo…”

“I get it,” Iwaizumi snaps, irritability rising. This was never a negotiation; just a demand couched as a compassionate request. The sheer number of people in the room, all staring Iwaizumi down like he can save them is proof of that.

If Oikawa were here, maybe he’d throw in a line about how very disappointed his sizable fan base would be to see him miss the most high-profile event in sports. But Iwaizumi is sure their PR team and slate of consultants have already crunched those numbers. Maybe Miya Atsumu is popular enough to make up for those disappointed fans. Maybe they’re being honest about aiming for gold, and needing everyone to be in tip-top shape.

Truthfully, the idea of earning a gold medal without Oikawa at his side is making Iwaizumi nauseous.

“I’ll talk to him,” Iwaizumi says suddenly, standing up and slamming his palms against the conference table, “But not for you.”

“Thank you, Iwaizumi-san.”

The room looks relieved. It’s astounding how afraid they all are of Oikawa, Iwaizumi realizes. It would probably make Oikawa happy to know that.

Iwaizumi almost wants to laugh, “I’d actually rather you not.”

+

For all of his daily melodrama, Oikawa takes the news in calmly. Almost too calmly, Iwaizumi thinks.

“You knew they’d ask me,” Iwaizumi realizes, “You knew they’d never straight-up tell you to retire.”

“Bingo,” Oikawa hums, stretching out the vowels, “I should have warned you Iwa-chan. But maybe I hoped I’d be wrong.”

He stretches his legs out, before flopping over into Iwaizumi’s lap. They’re sitting on the couch, and Iwaizumi lets Oikawa use his thighs as a pillow, running a hand through Oikwa’s curls absent-mindedly. It’s all so second-nature for them, like a choreographed dance they’ve done so many times it requires almost no thought. The same has always applied to volleyball, which might be why any disruption in that routine feels like a sick joke.

“Remember when we played each other in college?”

Oikawa’s question catches Iwaizumi off-guard, and his hand stills, “Sure. Worst four years of my life.”

“Don’t lie, Iwa-chan,” Oikawa laughs softly, “The post-game sex was amazing back then.”

“Hm,” Iwaizumi snorts, “Still not worth being across the net from you.”

Oikawa is quiet after that, and Iwaizumi pretends not to notice the small way he shivers, tears wetting the fabric of Iwaizumi’s jeans. In truth, Iwaizumi also wants to cry. He wants to scream, to quit, to leave everything but Oikawa behind. But that’s wouldn’t be fair; not to himself or to his teammates or to Oikawa.

“I got pretty close didn’t I?” Oikawa’s turned in Iwaizumi’s lap so that he’s looking up, and his eyes are bloodshot but there’s a smile on his face, “Pretty good for a guy like me, just a lowly non-prodigy.”

“Oikawa…” It hurts Iwaizumi to hear Oikawa say that. Oikawa was always the best of them all; he was the one who was supposed to shine the brightest. He always had for Iwaizumi, at least.

“And maybe it’ll be fun, watching from the stands,” Oikawa reaches up to pinch Iwaizumi’s cheek, “I’ll say, oh I knew the ace Iwaizumi Hajime before he was famous!”

Iwaizumi catches Oikawa’s hand in his, and squeezes, “You knew me before I was anything. I wouldn’t be here without you.”

“Then make sure you win,” Oikawa says, voice breaking on the words, “For me too.”

They do win. And still nothing -- not the camera flashes, or the extravagant celebration parties, or the gold medal hanging around his neck -- is as beautiful to Iwaizumi as Oikawa, smile beaming from the crowd.

Thank you so much for filling my prompt!!

Gah, so many feels!!!! I love the prose in this, it's hard to pick a favorite line, but a few of them are: "The room looks relieved. It’s astounding how afraid they all are of Oikawa, Iwaizumi realizes. It would probably make Oikawa happy to know that." AND "It’s all so second-nature for them, like a choreographed dance they’ve done so many times it requires almost no thought." AND " Oikawa was always the best of them all; he was the one who was supposed to shine the brightest. He always had for Iwaizumi, at least." I love how you portray the relationship between the two of them, and the references to their history adds a richness and deepness to it that makes it feel realistic.
