Sort of bullying, mostly just scary scary Midousuji.
***
From where they were seated near the window, Imayoshi and Hanamiya had a perfect view of all the drama.
“--so creepy! The way his teeth click together and the noises - it’s like he’s a marionette, not a puppet! Something out of a horror movie.” The girl who was speaking gave a delicious shiver of fear and wrapped her arms around herself.
Midousuji was visible in the doorway, looming in the narrow frame; the girls who could see him went quiet with fear but the speaker had her back to him and so blissfully unaware, continued with her tale.
“I’m telling you, he scares me to death!”
“Oh, do I?” Midousuji asked, leaning over her in a way that made it seem as if his spine were curving so he could look at her upside down. There was something serpentine about how Midousuji moved, as if he had too many joints in his body and could bend himself in any direction he wanted.
“Thank you,” he said, white teeth shining. There was a clicking sound and the lights suddenly went out. For a second, weak sunshine lit the room, just enough to let the people see each other and then that was gone too.
Midousuji’s hands curled over the back of the girl’s chair as he repeated, “Thank you.”
Owls could crane their heads in any direction and owl-like, Midousuji leaned in far too close and smiled far too wide.
Without even the sunshine, the room was cast in gloom. Midousuji’s teeth shone like warning beacons as the frozen girl stayed hypnotized in her chair. She uttered a single pitiful squeak, like a mouse being run over, and then shivered before fainting dead away.
Everyone was too terrified to move.
The lights came back on abruptly and Midousuji straightened up, his smile still on his face. He laughed, the sound distorted and strange, and looked at her friends who hadn’t moved from their seats.
“Do I scare you too?” He asked, placing his long-fingered hands on the desk and leaning forwards. He fluttered his eyelashes like a coquette, dropping his voice in a sibiliant hiss. “Are you scared of me?”
Nobody knew what the right answer. Nobody wanted to say anything.
“Well?” Midousuji demanded when nobody said anything. His smile was wide enough to swallow the world. “Are you too frightened to speak?”
A ringtone suddenly jangled from his pocket and Midousuji reared back, pulling his phone out and leaving the room.
“It’s cute how he’ll drop everything to talk to his boyfriend,” Hanamiya said and Imayoshi laughed.
From Hanamiya, ‘cute’ was not a compliment.
