Bonus Round 5: Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES

• Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
  • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
  • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
  • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
  • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
  • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

There’s something surreal about being at a laundromat at 1am, but it’s where Osamu is as he yawns, waiting for his laundry to finish so he can shove it in the dryer. Atsumu’s no help as usual, Osamu’s not even sure why he’s here really. There are claims of missing my beloved twin and I don’t even see you during holidays now like, the last time I saw you was during New Year’s and it’s already May but Osamu frankly believes it’s more likely boredom that brought him over. There’s barely enough space for him in Osamu’s tiny dorm room, never mind squeezing in Atsumu. Nonetheless, Atsumu is more than welcome to stare at the swirling cosmos of laundry.

Osamu? Well, he has a date with the Premium Pudding vending machine outside the laundromat.

It’s a curious thing, the vending machine. Osamu’s not sure if it’s only him who sees it, but he doesn’t much care. There’s only ever three choices despite it being a regular sized machine, and Osamu’s never really questioned it. It promises pudding, and it always delivers unusual flavours. They’re different every time Osamu comes, but he’s seen pudding labelled first snow, sunlight through the windows, middle school graduation, mum’s smile, as well as more run of the mill flavours like chocolate, matcha, and calpis.

Today’s options are summer’s wish, new year’s morning and strawberry cream. He stares at them a while, wondering what each might taste like. Finally, he settles on new year’s morning and inserts 300 yen. The pudding comes out with a clang, perfectly ordinary if faintly redder than it should be. He takes the pudding back inside with him where Atsumu is still watching the clothes spin, a blur of colours and bubbles. He looks up when Osamu sits next to him, and starts pouting at the sight of the pudding cup in Osamu’s hand. Osamu can almost hear the unspoken questions as Atsumu eyes his pudding, where’s mine and can I have some.

“No.” Osamu cuts him off before he can ask, and the pout gets bigger. Osamu wonders how is it that Atsumu’s the older of the two of them, when he behaves more like a five year old despite being almost half an hour older than Osamu.

“Just a tiny spoonful?” Atsumu wheedles, but Osamu’s focus is on his pudding. It gleams under the fluorescent lights, and the first spoonful is like waking up too early, when the horizon is still dark and you can hear the steady breathing of someone sleeping in the same room. The next mouthful is the cold floor through your socks, chill of the window pane as you lean your face against it to peer outside.

He eats it slowly, and it’s like watching the sunrise, air cold enough to see your breath, huddled next to your twin because it’s a thing you do every year, never mind that he whines and complains it’s too early to be up and you know it’s because he only went to bed an hour ago. It’s sitting there until you can see the sun edging over the horizon and taste something like hope on your lips, something like anticipation. It’s contentment and restless energy simmering under your skin, waiting, waiting.

The last spoonful he saves for Atsumu, but he knows what it will taste like. It will taste like sun warmed cheeks but cold noses, something faintly sweet and nostalgic mixed with the breathless beginnings of a new day. There was a hint of it in his last mouthful, and he watches Atsumu’s face scrunch up and still suddenly as he takes the last mouthful. It will taste like a secret, a smile and a promise, like the tea they make to share, until their mother comes down and has a cup too, then the smell of breakfast cooking. French toast made by their mum, because that’s what they have on New Year’s mornings even though they’re both capable of making it themselves now, then crawling back to bed.

Maybe Osamu doesn’t know why Atsumu’s really here, but he thinks he’s grateful for it, leaning against him in a laundromat at 1am, watching the laundry spin in endless circles and the taste of pudding lingering like a memory.

EWA.....rolls into here with a puddle of tears because this still punches me in the gut and then like, drapes a blanket over me because it is SO WARM, SO TENDER AND AFFECTIONATE!! your imagery about the taste of the pudding is so vivid and evocative and speaks so much about the bond between the twins ;;;; i also love that osamu just, doesn't question this magic vending machine bc like, it gives him tasty and interesting pudding so he just rolls with it. atsumu's wheedling for some of his pudding made me laugh but i'm glad osamu manages to Stand His Ground (and still saves a spoon for him anyway WEHS). i love this a lot and it's a beautiful, beautiful piece ;___;

Pudding is meant to be an Experience, especially Premium Pudding okay. also never question the pudding machine especially when it blesses you with Pudding that is an Experience. also samu will always cave for tsumu, just maybe when tsumu doesn't expect it most coughs. im glad you liked this though <3

The atmosphere you've created here is incredible ;-; i love the subtly surreal feeling of it all, the quiet, deserted laundromat and the mundane magic of the pudding vending machine, Osamu's deliberations and the evocative descriptions of all the memories and emotions that the pudding stirs up in him. And Atsumu's presence in so many of them is so constant, so much a part of his life and who he is; from the steady breathing of someone sleeping in the same room to huddling next to your twin because it's a thing you do every year, you infuse this whole piece with a tender aching nostalgia, and it comes a marvellous full circle from Atsumu visiting Osamu because he misses his beloved twin. For all that Osamu brushes it off and thinks to himself it's more likely boredom, the fact remains that Atsumu's chosen to spend his precious time with Osamu in a laundromat and Osamu's chosen to save the last spoonful for Atsumu, and they both know what it will taste like, and the memory is such a warm reminder of what they share. samu's trying to contain his excitement but, okay, in my mind while drawing this i was basically imagining yurio's big wobbly-eyed excitement at the tiger shirt, so, he's about a second away from adopting that same expression haha. atsumu is really, really excited about this machine and even excited to share it with osamu because PUDDING MACHINE!!
