Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

Soft sweet angst. Because family is important. Being raised by people who love you is so important.

...And I actually made myself cry while writing this fill, ouch.

***

Midousuji had been curious what sort of family could have raised Onoda but once he met Mrs. Onoda, it all made sense. She was sweet and well-intentioned but so vague that Midousuji instantly understood how Onoda could have inherited his obliviousness from her. She’d made them dinner and sat there with them, encouraging Midousuji to eat more because ‘you’re so thin, please, take some home with you too, it’s too much for just Onoda and myself’.

At the end of the night, she’d hugged him tightly. She was plump and short and smelled of the hours she’d spent slaving over the kitchen. It was nothing like being hugged by his frail, slim mother who’d always smelled of disinfectant and sickness.

Midousuji had found tears in his eyes as he biked home, stinging hard enough to disrupt his vision and force him to pull the bike over to the side so he could sit on the verge.

After that, he’d known, he had to introduce Onoda to his mother.

*

“This is my mother,” he said as he knelt before her grave. He’d brought flowers, incense, water, a little shovel and brush with him and now, as Onoda knelt too, he started to scrape off the moss and dust the grave clear. Her family had taken most of her life insurance as payback for the cost of her medical care and had insisted she would want the rest spent on Midousuji’s schooling rather than a fancy grave when they already had a family grave.

“When she died, I was old enough to help pick her bones from the ashes.”

Onoda said nothing but clasped his hands in prayer and listened.

“When she died, that - that was the last time I felt loved. Until you.” Midousuji scowled for a second, still uncomfortable with showing affection that he was so used to calling gross, then poured out the water and set the incense into the urns.

“She was ill as long as I can remember but she was kind to me. I cycled to her every day to tell her about school.” His eyes stung but he kept working, lighting each stick of incense ceremoniously. “Never anything bad. I was always told not to worry her with those details.”

He arranged the flowers before the grave marker with a delicacy that would have surprised anyone except Onoda.

“She was so kind. Even when she was in pain, she was never angry with me. She listened to me and said nice things.” His throat was growing tight now and Midousuji blinked away tears, finishing in a quick rush, “She would have liked you. Mother, please, this is Sakamichi. My boyfriend.”

Onoda bowed respectfully, hands coming all the way to the ground. “Thank you for raising him so well. We ask for your blessing.”

A wind stirred the leaves of a nearby tree and cherry blossoms blew down around them in a swirl of pink. Midousuji raised his hands into the air, catching the flowers; he closed his eyes against the urge to cry and for a second, the cool touch of the breeze felt almost like his mother’s hands.

aw no my heart

I really love how gentle this actually is though, having Midousuji aknowledge so lovingly how supportive his mother was despite her condition is so sweet, and so is Onoda's mom with those twos

And thanks you always for those thoughtful fills and sorry for if this one was painful to write *patpat*
