Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

***

Aoyagi had been growing her hair out. It still fell over one eye, but by the time it touched her shoulders the look was sleek rather than scruffy. (Even Naruko had teasingly called her a femme fatale.) Tadokoro had noticed her playing with her bangs and running her fingers through it as if measuring it before she tugged part into a short ponytail.

When Tadokoro returned to the clubroom for his phone and found her struggling to tie her hair up neatly with a ribbon, he was not surprised. Everyone had cleared out after practice, but she had stayed behind by few minutes to change into something other than her uniform.

“Can I help?”

Aoyagi looked more startled than he expected, but looked into his eyes and nodded trustingly.

Tadokoro joined her in front of the one mirror, a tarnished relic of someone long-graduated. He ran his fingers through her hair, which fell smooth and straight. It was just long enough to pull into ponytail, one that would stick straight out, which did not seem to be what Aoyagi wanted. The easiest solution would have been to pull just her longer bangs back.

That might have been the easy solution, but Tadokoro had a secret technique waiting for just such a moment.

He might have smoothed her bangs back a few more times than necessary, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t absolutely confident in his skills. He separated her bangs into three sections to plait into a braid, then kept adding more hair little by little as he went back. Tadokoro bent intense concentration to the task, refusing to let the silky hair escape him. Only once he had a braid along one side of Aoyagi’s head and had handed it off to Aoyagi did he feel ready to make conversation.

“Are you going somewhere special?”

Usually Tadokoro saw her in more androgynous casual clothes, so this felt flashy. She was wearing a white blouse that had multicolored ribbon woven through the collar and sleeves and an odd asymmetrical skirt. It was pink with a curtain of orange ruffles on one side and was inherently ridiculous, but it managed to look cute on her.

“Mm.” Aoyagi stopped herself just short of shaking her head. “No.”

“Is it a date?” Tadokoro asked, meaning he was ready to put the fear of him in someone if Aoyagi needed him to.

“No,” Aoyagi stressed. “I just wanted to.”

“You just wanted to look pretty?”

Aoyagi’s gaze dipped. Tadokoro could see it in the mirror. It stood in for a nod, but her lowered brows and the weight of her gaze as her eyes didn’t raise again said things neither of them would have had words for.

“You’re always pretty,” Tadokoro said firmly.

Tadokoro finally got to the point where he could weave the two braids together and tie them with the ribbon. He felt very proud of himself, even if he managed to tie a bow with one loop pointing up and one pointing down on the first try.

“There! What do you think of Tadokoro’s special-oof!”

Aoyagi hadn’t waited for him to finish speaking before flinging herself at him. She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him to hard it made her meaning clear long before she whispered, “Thank you.”

Tadokoro hugged her tightly before setting her back on her feet and clapping her on the back. “You look very pretty. It’s good to stand out sometimes. As a top-class sprinter I bet you just can’t help yourself!”

Aoyagi nodded. With her hair braided back out of her eyes the mysterious femme fatale was traded for something more direct. Her intense, dark eyes sparkled with excitement.

Ribbons and ruffles looked nice on Aoyagi, but it was her eyes that made Tadokoro want to scoop her up and never let go.

Aoyagi scooted out of the clubroom ahead of him. He heard her almost collide with Makishima at the door. There was a pause before he said, “You look nice,” awkward but sincere, and then directed at Tadokoro, “I wondered what was taking you so long.”

When Aoyagi rode off, Tadokoro couldn’t stop himself from bellowing down the hill after her, “You call me if anyone bothers you!” He saw Aoyagi nod and felt marginally better.

“Papa bear.”

Tadokoro ignored the comment. “I’m impressed she can ride wearing that. Did you make that skirt?”

“Of course not.” Makishima rolled one shoulder as if to shrug off Tadokoro’s question. When that didn’t work he scoffed and admitted, “I may have altered it a little.”

“Well. Thanks.” Tadokoro casually reached over and pushed a few wayward strands of hair behind Makishima’s ear. They both knew how to fill in that gap.

Thanks for teaching me to braid hair for my favorite girl.
