Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

girls!

***

Ume had convinced Jinkou to leave some of their rugby magazines behind for Miki.

“It's always nice to have another girl to talk about this kind of thing with,” she smiled. “I'm always surrounded by these boys; it's too much!” She made a face, but her voice was fond and she laughed afterwards. Miki laughed, too. She'd had so much fun over the past few days with Ume, learning about rugby and watching and the two of them talking.

“Thank you,” Miki said. “Are you going to come back next year?”

“Of course!” Ume replied. “If we start winning games, we'll probably have a bunch of new members next year to whip into shape.”

“I'm glad,” Miki smiled. She had originally planned on finding another job for next summer, but now that she met Ume and learned about rugby, she definitely wanted to come back and cheer for Jinkou by her side.

“Although, Hirota is a third year,” Ume said thoughtfully. “So he won't be coming back next year, if that's what you mean.”

“Oh!” Miki had almost forgotten that part of their conversation the first night. “No- I didn't mean that. I wanted to see you. And the team,” she added, almost as an afterthought. Jinkou was a good team, and the boys were mostly nice, but it was Ume she was really interested in seeing again. She had friends, of course, but not like Ume, so bright and loud and cheeky.

“Ah, I'm glad, too, then,” Ume said, grabbing Miki's hands. “Let's talk lots until next year, ok?”

“Ok,” Miki agreed. She hoped her cheeks weren't too pink.

After the team left, Miki poured over the magazines, trying to learn more about the game. It was so different from the sports she was used to-- tennis and basketball and baseball. So many people and positions and rules. But she remembered Ume explaining the game to her as they watched practice matches, and whenever she had a question she could text her, and Ume would answer. Miki bought more magazines, trying to keep up to date. She saw Ryuoin mentioned several times.

They talked about other things, too-- school and music and friends. It was really nice.

“A boy confessed to me today,” Ume announced during a phone call. “Isn't that ridiculous?”

It isn't, Miki wanted to say. Who wouldn't want to confess to Ume? Instead she made a vague noise, letting Ume interpret it however she wanted.

“I told him I can't think about taking care of another boy right now, especially with Hanazono coming up, and he got kind of mad,” Ume continued. “Which I definitely don't have time for, so I just left.” She sighed. “What about you, Miki? Any boys?”

“I don't have time for boys, either,” Miki said. She wanted to laugh, but didn't. She'd never really had time for boys, not like that, and the more she talked to Ume the more she got the impression that she never really would.

“Ah, you're so cute though!” Miki felt herself blush, and was glad they were on the phone and not in person.

“Ume-chan is also very cute,” she said. There was silence on the other end of the phone, and she started to panic. That wasn't weird to say, was it? Then Ume erupted into giggles.

“I wish Sugadaira wasn't so far away,” Ume said, finally.

Miki couldn't agree more.

This magazine had a special on women's rugby. Miki read it five times over the course of an afternoon, lingering over the pictures of strong women grinning and covered in mud. She hadn't thought of playing herself, and truthfully, it seemed more violent a game than she'd enjoy playing, but that night she dreamed of Ume and her on the same team, laughing in the muddy grass after a win.

“I've made the reservations!” Ume said. “Only a few weeks left until we're at Sugadaira!” Miki felt her heart swell.

“I can't wait!” she replied. “It will so good to see you again.” Ume laughed.

“It'll be so good to see you, too, Miki. The boys this year are so rude without Sekizan to keep them in line, and Komori-san thinks it's funny. I'll need your help to make sure they don't wreck your uncle's inn.”

“Of course.” Miki took a breath. “Would you like to go to the crepe shop with me, when you come?”

“Yes!” Ume said; Miki could hear the smile in her voice.

The training camp couldn't come soon enough.

Yesss thank you! This is such a beautiful fill! I love seeing Miki's crush grow along with their long-distance friendship. "Who wouldn't want to confess to Ume?" made me giggle, and the special on women's rugby was the more perfect detail. This is beautiful and I love it so much! *gathers up fill and holds it forever*
