Bonus Round 5: Clue
Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!
Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
- Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
- The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
- Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
- The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
- Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
- Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.

Tatsuya hasn’t felt so clearly the open cavity of his mouth, the space and the stump where a tongue used to be, since the first day. The bottoms of his feet (exclaimed over, how could they be softer than a baby’s) have since hardened; he is used to the steps he takes feeling like knives up through his ankles, ever time he walks, every time he dances. The stab is sharp, a little duller, a reminder of what he’s done to himself, all of the things he had thrown away (status, power, speech, song, his entire life).
And Taiga, shorn of his brilliant red hair, Taiga, whom Tatsuya had thought he had lost forever, had not seen in so long—Taiga has given him a choice. A dagger, of the sea, of the same witch who had given Tatsuya the opportunity to be here, to come to the surface, to live as a human. A farce, really, that’s all this had been the whole time. A terrible parody, in imitation of a real human. It’s got nothing to do with his inability to talk, but more his unfamiliarity with everything, the way he can’t catch on quite quickly enough, the way his own royal manners are no good up here. A different culture, something he cannot translate himself to.
It had been him all along, him who had rescued the prince and he’d thought that perhaps the prince would see, would recognize it. He had thought, sometimes, a gleam in the prince’s violet eyes had signified acknowledgement. He’s clever, clever enough to recognize something he knows when he sees it, or apparently not. He only recognizes the one he had seen, but some things cannot be seen; some things can be felt. But all of this feeling is on Tatsuya’s side; he is alone and he has not held up his end of the bargain.
Take the easy out, take Taiga’s sacrifice. Go back, face the shame. Kill Atsushi, lying so sweetly asleep here. Use the dagger.
He can’t. It’s not so simple as that; Tatsuya’s burned the bridges behind him and he’s not about to clamor back up; he has made this situation what it is and the consequences are his to shoulder, until he dissolves. Merfolk are not meant for more than this.
He closes the door behind him, walking to the edge of the deck. The sea, below, is everything he has known. The foam, blowing away, that he will become. Tatsuya hurls the dagger into the sea; there are only a few hours left before sunrise.

i mean, i know i tagged for the more gruesome version(s) but to see the description of the sacrifices necessary to get to this point, so so so good so full of grit and bitter resolve. even kagami's inclusion as the brother!!!!! losing his own hair to the witch for a chance at saving his brother!!!!! the parallels with being between two worlds where the edges won't blend together easily at all mmmmmmmmmmmm
i just, murasakibara is such a small part of this, size and all, and that's just how the tale goes with the badly-weighed out options and poor forethought and it only lays its weight out more heavily on himuro, he's no easy way out of anything
i love this!!!! the ending is everything to me! like the original, but hardened by himuro's own resolve to melt into the wind
can't get over how giddy this makes me, i want to hold onto it forever <33
