Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

It's Atsumu's idea and, as usual, Osamu just goes with it. He's the one who decides that he wants to dye his hair, and it doesn't sound like such a bad idea to Osamu, so he agrees to it. They do their research first, because if they're going to do this at home, they're going to make sure that it doesn't end up being a complete disaster.

"It's not just about how to bleach our hair," Osamu tells him dryly, as they sit around the family computer, googling things. "I'm pretty sure that if we're not careful with it, we're going to end up giving ourselves chemical burns. M'not really into that."

Atsumu huffs out a laugh. "Fair."

"I guess it would be easier for us to do each other's hair," Osamu adds, "so you'd better read up and make sure you understand everything so you don't end up messing up my hair."

"It'll grow back, even if I do," Atsumu says cheerfully.

"I'm sure you'll agree, when I shave your head bald."

Atsumu elbows him in the side. "I'm not going to mess up."

They continue their research, watching countless video tutorials for dyeing hair, until Osamu decides that he's ready to actually try it, or more importantly, let Atsumu try it on him.

Atsumu is excited when they make their way to the shop to buy the things that they need. It makes Osamu have to bite back his smile of fondness; he doesn't often admit it, but he likes it when Atsumu gets excited about things like this, because it always makes him enjoy it a little bit more too.

They walk into the aisle with the hair dye and Atsumu makes a beeline for the blond dyes, like he knows exactly what he wants. He probably does, Osamu thinks to himself, following behind. He's probably been thinking about it for weeks.

"This one," Atsumu declares, picking a box of darker blond from the shelf and holding it up for Osamu to see.

"That'll suit you," Osamu hums, and he's about to pick up the same one when he sees a box of grey dye on the shelf above it. He hesitates, and reaches for that one instead.

"'Samu," Atsumu says immediately. "What are you doing?"

Osamu hesitates, his fingers hovering just above the box.

"If you do that, we're not going to match any more," Atsumu says, frowning slightly.

Osamu slowly realises why Atsumu was patient enough to wait until he was ready to do this too; Atsumu didn't want to do this by himself.

He moves his hand away from the grey dye. "I don't think we're going to have any trouble looking exactly alike, even if we have differently coloured hair. It might be easier for the others to tell us apart."

"That's why we part our hair differently," Atsumu points out. "Giving them an obvious clue like this means that we can't pull twin switching pranks any more."

Osamu looks at the grey dye again, and hums softly. "Sure, but this means that we'll think of better pranks instead. Not being able to get away with matching means that we'll have to be creative, right?"

Atsumu blinks at him in surprise, and then grins. "I like the way you think."

HUMS HAPPILY...i love the banter between them here and the easy back-and-forth of their relationship ("it'll grow back"/"i'm sure you'll agree when i shave your head bald" made me laugh). and atsumu being uncertain about doing it alone and osamu, the one to step out first but also hang back a bit and reassure him aaaa!! thank you for this <333

Atsumu had reached for the hair dye first. Deciding not to go ‘Beach-babe Blonde’ (S’too much like Kita-san, ‘Samu.) he’d instead helped himself to the bottle described as ‘Honey Blonde’. “I’m ‘sweet’, see,” he explained, flashing Osamu a smile.

Fuck, I was going for that one.

“We could match,” Atsumu suggests. (Osamu’s not surprised his brother’s read his mind, even when he keeps his facial expressions to a minimum, ‘Tsumu’s always there with a quizzical look and a quip.) “Would confuse the hell outta the opposition.”

“Think most of ‘em look at the shirt number. Besides ...” He trails off not wanting to give a voice to the dark, petty thought in his head, then waits for Atsumu to make a joke.

“Maybe it ain’t good to always look the same,” Atsumu says instead.

And no one’s mixed us up since you made the starting line up.

(“What’s it like bein’ the lesser one, Miya-kun?”

“Miya-san,” whispers a girl in his class, handing him a pink envelope when the teacher’s not looking. “Can you ... uh .... put this in your brother’s bag?”

“What’s it like always bein’ one step behind?”

“We’ll be the best duo,” Atsumu says, then adds keeping in a sigh, “One day.”

“What’s it like not bein’ able to live up to your younger brother, Miya? To always be in his shadow, eh?”

“Who says I can’t?” He shrugs his way out of every snide remark, and wonders how much he’ll take before he ruins his spiking hand by dislocating his knuckles against the arsehole’s jaw. )

Shadow.

Osamu’s fingers slide along the boxes, nothing too colourful (Aquamarine – nope), nothing too bland (Chestnut Brown – dull dull dull). Nothing too similar (he jumps across the ‘Dark Honey’ and doesn’t even think about ‘Sunkissed’, knowing it’ll turn out orange.) His nails tap against a box, and Atsumu tilts his gaze towards his brother.

“Why?”

Cause if I’m your shadow, maybe I should look like one, Osamu wants to say.

But he keeps it to himself, knowing 'Tsumu gets it.

AHH...i've said it once before and i'll say it again, but this really is like a sucker punch to the heart. their ability to read each other is a bit of a double edged sword in here since that outcome is that 'tsumu probably knows exactly how 'samu feels about their situation ;__; i love how you've written osamu's turbulent feelings here, and all the thoughts he keeps to himself but are probably still loud as a bell regardless. my heart hurts, thank you for writing this <3
