Bonus Round 5: Clue

Clue

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Sometimes, all you need are a few little details to imagine something bigger. This round is inspired by a classic board game with a cast of colorful characters, but for SASO your only limits on "who", "where", and "with what" are what you can imagine (and the SASO fandom list, of course)!

This round closes on 5 August @ 7PM EDT. (Countdown Timer.)

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with the format of a Clue mystery - "[character] in the [location] with [item]", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: Sawamura Daichi in the teachers' lounge with the Hello Kitty! lunchbox
    • The person in your prompt MAY be a member of your ship, but is not REQUIRED to be part of your ship. They must still be a named character from a SASO-nominated fandom.
    • Your place must be a physical location, not a state of being or a state of being. However, this location is not required to be real, nor must it be from the same setting as the characters.
    • The "item" used must be a physical object that the character can hold or manipulate.
    • Unlike the board game, your prompt is NOT required to imply murder. The scenario implied can be anything at all! (As always, please tag properly!)
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Natsuo & Yuzuko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Natsuo/Yuzuko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your Clue-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

***

Red Hair is back.

Nagisa flits from branch to branch to watch the human crouch low in the leaves. He will leave the forest hungry again tonight. He is too loud perhaps too inexperienced to notice how his fine leather boots crunch the leaves and needles underfoot. Everything in the forest knows of his presence. Most everything worth eating has absconded into the darker depths to wait out the lumbering fool who thinks by bending his knees that sound will bend low, too.

Nagisa presses fingers to his lips to keep from laughing.

Red Hair's leather breastplate catches glints and slivers of sunlight in its beetle-wing iridescence. It's somewhat charmed, Nagisa thinks, but with what school of magic he couldn't say. His own arcane knowledge extends only to the edges of what the world produces naturally, and not to the manufactured imitations humans conjure.

Besides, the more charmed element to Nagisa is how Red Hair's buffoonery paints his obvious skill with bow and arrow into useless comical light. What good is a marksman with nothing to mark.

Oh well, time to play.

"Hello!" he chirps.

Red Hair spins and lets an arrow fly, easy to dodge in its predictability. Most human marksmen young as Red Hair follow voices rather than movement. In the time it takes to reach behind to his quiver to grab another, Nagisa has grabbed Red Hair by his wristlet, swept a foot to hook his ankle, and with a purposeful tug, pinned him to the ground.

"D'you make a habit of hunting things that speak?" Nagisa asks.

Red Hair, stunned, winded, chews air before his voice returns to him. "I'm sorry," he says, and Nagisa blinks in clear surprise.

"You're sorry?"

"I am," Red Hair coughs. "You're very right. I never meant to hunt a spirit."

Nagisa sits back, but keeps his grips firm and heavy. "Whyever not? We make good sport."

"But not good food," he says.

"True," Nagisa concedes. "Too airy, our flesh. Not much for sustenance."

"Although," Red Hair says, "you seem to carry enough meat on your bones to satisfy a lonely wanderer."

Nagisa's eyebrow rises. Perhaps Red Hair hunts more than food in this forest. Perhaps he searches for some other gut-deep satisfaction.

"Pray tell," he says, leaning back down low to Red Hair's face. "What thought have you in mind for my meat?"

Red Hair's grin has hunger written into its teeth, and firelight in his eyes. "Your name, first, spirit."

"No, sir, my name comes at a cost."

"Then mine, I'll give you first: Mikoshiba Momotarou." He looks Nagisa up and down and catches his eyes like kindling. "Will that suffice?"

"No, sir," Nagisa says, "my name is worth far more than that. Your name's a price too low for mine. You'll prove your worth to gain my name."

He loosens his grip and waits to see if Momotarou will break the game, but; still he stays on the ground, and does not attempt trickery. Nagisa returns his grin. He stands and walks backward into the thicket, calling out a sweet promised quest in his wake.

"Catch me again, good sir, and both my meat and name you shall have in abundance."
