Bonus Round 7: Free For All

Free-For-All

Let's finish SASO 2017 with a bang. This bonus bonus round allows any kind of prompt imaginable in any format. The sky's the limit!

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with literally any kind of prompt, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms, with the following caveats:
    • Large image prompts should be thumbnailed and linked to, as explained here.
    • Fanart/fanfiction/fanwork prompts are only allowed if you created the fanwork yourself or if you have explicit permission to use it, and proof of permission must be linked to in your prompt header.
    • Quote prompts can come from almost anything, but please don't quote personal conversations you've had or overheard.
    • Reposting prompts is fine, but be respectful and keep crediting in mind. A prompt belongs to the person who posted it to this round, and who can fill it is determined by whether or not they are on that person's team.
      • If reposting a br2 (tic tac toe) prompt, please post each prompt square as its own individual comment. Posting tic tac toe boards wholesale will crash our br scorer and the bonus doesn't apply for this round, anyway.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Akira & Hikaru). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Akira/Hikaru). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Besides that, if you want to prompt something, regardless of format—even formats not previously allowed in SASO—go right ahead. If you're unsure you can ask us for clarification, but tbh just go for the gold.
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with a fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • Here is a prompt/fill index for your convenience.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only (see the line of links below this post).

an empire of corpses au, so here’s some mood music

***

It starts with the Necroware, the way it slots into the thick notebook that sits by him on his desk. Oikawa can hear the mechanical ticking of the clocks echoing within the cramped space of his study. With a scalpel, he slowly splits of the nape of the boy’s neck open to reveal bone, an aperture, blood spilling slowly into a metal bowl below.

Oikawa thinks — in data, in results. In the way that he programs the Necroware with a mere touch of his fingers against some keys. He reads into the jerk of the boy’s head and the slow opening of his eyes, large, empty.

“Welcome back,” Oikawa starts, and pauses before continuing, “Tobio-chan.”

He doesn’t call him Kageyama anymore. It’s a heavy name to say, far heavier than the twenty-one missing grams of a soul that Tobio requires to live again.

“Copy me,” Oikawa orders with an easy flick of the wrist, curling of fingers. The syllables are careful on his tongue as he watches for any change in Tobio’s expression, but those eyes are stretched wide, blue, and lifeless. No different from any other day.

Tobio is a caricature of stiff limbs and jerky gestures at best. He moves his hands with disjointed precision, mirroring Oikawa’s movement. Oikawa isn’t sure what to think of how he feels, the messiness circling inside of him — how he hates and misses the fluidity of a living Kageyama with a soul, the shine of bright eyes that used to look up at him as they spent time passing each other in laboratories and corridors.

(Oikawa spends. Nights. Days. Digging into old engineering books and spinning philosophies in his head. Searching for the twenty-one grams of a soul that his fingers can’t program using the computer. Cursing a Tobio that says nothing in return when Oikawa’s own words are as sharp as the blades he uses to expose his vertebrae to the humid summer air.)

You can’t bring him back, Shittykawa. Why are you even trying?

Silly Iwa-chan. It’s not about bringing Tobio back. It’s about science, the possibility of life, again. Oikawa looks out the window and sees the mindless corpses walking around, and thinks to himself as he returns to his study, that he’s going to be better than that.

Tobio is seated like a doll in his favorite leather chair and Oikawa can only watch for a second or two before reaching out a hand. Tobio’s lips, the edge down his neck, the tendon of his wrists. They’re all so cold underneath Oikawa’s fingertips.

“Copy me,” Oikawa says again, fingers wrapped around Tobio’s palm, a squeeze. A bigger gesture than he wants to think it is.

Oikawa waits, and he doesn’t get anything.

I LOVE THIS?????????????????????

the futility of oikawa's mission and how he's trying to out-think death lmfao the ego on this boy im so ?? it plays so well into his canon detail-obsessive analytical self ahhh ♥

and i love Silly Iwa-chan. lolol petty and in character as always, that little it of dialogue. i wonder what happened to him????? im.

tobio as a doll tho ?? like .... he /has/ tobio right there but he's still missing something, and im like shfkasldhf oikawa touching tobio's dead lips and finding them cold ... it's so .... nice ..................

and it ends !!!!!! so sad!!!!1 wtf, how dare. xiaoyi thi sis so good i want to read like 10000k of it. does oikawa cut into tobio because he cares. i hope he cares. will tobio ever wake up again and know what it took to get him back alive. jsdfkfmf thank you, thank you, this is beyond what i'd even hoped for this prompt LOL it is, as always, fucking outstanding. sasuga team oikage captain!!! ♥

This is not as hard as the prompt but man I liked this prompt.

***

Kuroko remembered his past lives -- at least, he knew that he’d had past lives, and that there were certain people who would eventually show up in this one, since they’d always done so before. They’re always echoes of echoes, never quite completely the person they’d been before, but also never truly someone new, or different.

In truth, after the first few cycles, Kuroko had gotten sick of them.

After a few thousand cycles, he’d hated them.

*

Aomine was always first and Kuroko thought he might have been the one he’d loved best, the first time. Aomine never remembered his past lives and barely heeded the signs and warnings of his present one. But Aomine always came and plucked Kuroko out of obscurity, the burning white light that made the shadows all the darker. There was one cycle where Kuroko, through various schemes and outright lies, had managed to spend almost his whole life as Aomine’s shadow.

But the problem with shadows were that they were easily forgotten, and Kuroko did not love being forgotten. That life had ended violently and quickly, but the comfort was that Aomine had left the same time he had, in the same way.

*

Kise always chased him, no matter what life they were in. In one life, Kuroko, sick of the chase, had capitulated to him -- he had been born a woman in that cycle and Kise, a man. They’d married and had several children who were more like Kise and than they were like Kuroko. That had been one of Kuroko’s quieter lives, and perhaps one of his happier ones.

But the problem with Kise was that he was not enough. With him, Kuruko always grew impatient, eager for the others who Kise could only imitate.

*

Sometimes Kuroko and Midorima were enemies and sometimes they were allies. They were rarely friends, however, and that to Kuroko seemed just. Sometimes, there was a flicker of recognition in Midorima’s eyes, the first time they’d meet in a life, and Kuroko longed to ask if he remembered, if he knew which cycle they were in, and how many there were left to go.

But Midorima never admitted that he remembered and Kuroko never asked. He’d learned caution in one his earlier lives and would never forget it.

*

Every successive life Murasakibara lived, he grew more and more sick of it all. “Eh, Kurochin,” he said, crunching on a sesame seed candy, “why do we have to do this again?”

“I don’t know, Murasakibara-kun,” Kuroko said, wiping off the sweat from his brow. “Maybe we keep making some mistake that we have to correct before we can move on.”

“I think it’s bad,” Murasakibara said with a vindictive crunch of candy against his strong, white teeth. “Making us go through junior high school again. Isn’t it mean?”

*

“Akashi-kun, do you remember?” Kuroko asked him once and Akashi’s eyes flashed alarmingly. Kuroko never asked him again.

*

He didn’t always meet Kagami during his lives. When he did, he knew that this particular cycle would be a good one, and he was usually right. Kagami never remembered what it was like before, and Kuroko never reminded him.

It was enough that he found him again, it was enough to stop looking for now.

They’ve never said it out loud, written it down, made it any kind of explicit, but there are things they talk about and things they don’t. Rarely, something will migrate from the second category to the first, but the second is much smaller, and it’s really a category made to encompass those last few months at Teikou. The things they remember, clear in their memories, burned into their minds like staring straight at a solar eclipse, but the thoughts that they do not voice.

It’s less painful to think them now that everything’s happened, after they’ve all played again together, but it doesn't erase them. It overwrites them, leaves the blemish in the middle of the picture and paints around it, leaving it blended into the background for anyone coming across the image now. But they know where to look for it, what to find.

It hadn’t been all bad, if Midorima’s in an optimistic mood. Either way, he and Kise had grown closer for being in that particular moment at that time, even if that hadn’t meant what it does now. It had started them on the path that finds them here, fingers entwined, Kise kissing Midorima until he runs out of exuberance and then slows down, keeping his lips on Midorima’s. And Midorima hopes that both of them are happy (he knows he is, indescribably so, the way seeing Kise makes him feel awfully warm and strange inside). But even though it had led here, had it bene worth it? To have those ghosts haunting both of them, hanging off their windowsills, whispering and nudging?

But they’re good at ignoring the ghosts, just as they’re good at not bringing up the past, letting it lie between them even though it rolls at the surface like a boil. It might be useless to just wait for it to evaporate; that could take longer than they’re both alive. But they’re still not ready to talk about it, even if they're ready to think about it, even if Kise closes his eyes and probably thinks about it sometime and Midorima pushes up his glasses because he doesn’t know what to say or how to say it. Kise’s better at changing the subject, anyway.

“Do you ever think about Teikou?” Kise says, though.

“Yeah,” says Midorima. “Sometimes.”

(They don’t say much more than that, at least for the moment, but it’s a start.)
