Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

OHHH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH I WAS REALLY HOPING THIS WOULD GET FILLED AND IT GAVE ME SHIVERS AND I LOVE YOU... I LOVE YOU AND NOZOELI AND THIS BEAUTIFUL FILL SO MUCH

my absolute favourite parts were

"One day it moved from the sixth position to the fifth—from a future influence to a present force. The next day a new girl transferred into her class. Star-gold sunlight streamed in from the classroom window, and Nozomi felt her spine straighten with a strange feeling of relief, as if she were newly slotted into place. There, she heard her mother's voice say. A daytime shooting star." and the line "a wish trailing after her star's blazing path", they both gave me little goosebumps with how perfect they were, aaaa

Kazuki Kawai /& Junta Takase (Oofuri)

But I need you to reach out to me
See in me more than I could see
Because I'm afraid that

One day is only two words we say
I don't want to let them get in the way
Of all these plans that we should be making right now
Right now

Who took the time and where did they take it
I want to take it back
I don’t want to let them to break it
All these plans that we should be making right now
Right now

You see now one day I'll be running this place
And one day I could take you away

I like this a lot, thank you for the fill! ;v; Ahhh I could feel Toudou's insecurity through their relationship -- Toudou being someone who needs constant reassurance/validation, and Manami being off in his own world makes it difficult for him to feel appreciated? It's bittersweet, especially how you ended it, and I really like that -- "there’s no turning back", ahh, even though he's aware of the disconnect he can't help but want the relationship to continue! ;u; <3

I couldn't resist that prompt, hnnng~ Chrom's quote is such a poignant and affirming moment in the game, and yet in Haikyuu Quest context it's like... this screams character death noooo XD I'm glad you didn't mind that I kept it lighthearted; even in an RPG setting I really couldn't see Sir Iwa-chan actually executing King Oikawa?? maybe kageyama would tho pfff <3

[personal profile] telenovelas 2015-06-08 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This is such a gorgeous quote/prompt - I'm sorry for my very literal interpretation. Here's some actually-a-mountain-god-Toudou AU fic for you.

No major content warnings, but does contain mild angst and one mention of spiders. 1173 words.

Makishima watches through the train window as the buildings and concrete thin out, replaced by trees and hills and never-ending green. It’s always odd, he thinks, that leaving the city where he has built his life, travelling to the midsummer gold of the mountain, should feel so much like coming home.

When he reaches the house – small, one room, kitchen and bathroom, made in traditional wood and set into the very foot of the mountain itself – it’s unchanged, untouched from where he’d left it the previous September. He opens the doors and windows, clears out the dust and starts to fill the space with himself again. When he walks the ten minutes to the village to buy food, the villagers greet him as if he never left; just another part of the changing seasons.

It’s the middle of June before he finally gets to climb up into the mountain itself. The heat presses in on him from all sides, but once he reaches the green shade of the forest, everything becomes cool and damp, the rich sweet smell of the soil and trees deep in the back of his throat. He’s been walking for an hour and a half when he sees the tree, its trunk as wide as he is tall, and settles himself against its gnarled roots, sketchbook in his lap.
He draws for a while, then puts the book away and eats the onigiri he brought with him. Then he leans back against the tree, closes his eyes and falls asleep, his skin dappled with sunlight from the gentle movement of the leaves above him.

When he wakes up, someone is watching him.

“You came back, then,” Toudou says, the preternatural depth of his dark eyes never leaving Makishima’s.
“I always do,” Makishima replies, and that’s all it takes.

Toudou is beside him instantly, curling into his side, hands gripping at his clothes, possessive. He has the side of his face pressed to Makishima’s chest, and Makishima pretends he doesn’t know that Toudou is listening to his heartbeat, taking him in as a part of the life and vitality that surrounds them. Part of the mountain.

“I felt it the moment you arrived, of course, Maki-chan,” Toudou says later, leaning back against Makishima the way Makishima had leaned on the tree trunk earlier, Makishima’s hands running absently through his hair. “This is my mountain, and the mountain is me, in equal parts. But I wanted you to come to me, so I would know that you really…”

His voice trails off, but Makishima knows.

The mountain of the summer is both the Eden of the beginning and the paradise of the end at once, and Makishima basks in its glory.

During the days they walk together, hand in hand and step by step through the passing of July. They bathe their feet in icy streams that trickle down from the peak, watching the fish dart around in the water. Toudou tells him stories of the mountain and its inhabitants, and they are surrounded by a constant flurry of creatures; spiders the size of Makishima’s hand which ride on his shoulders just to be closer to Toudou; rabbits which startle at Makishima’s presence, but are then soothed by Toudou’s touch, their fur shining with health in the wake of his hands; lizards which scamper across their path and frogs which call out to them in croaky voices from the branches of the trees.

Once, Toudou summons down a huge crow, feathers shining with the same iridescent purples as Toudou’s hair, and sits with it perched on his wrist for Makishima to draw. Makishima begins to sketch, but as his pencil moves across the paper, he becomes so distracted by the playful smile which dances around Toudou’s lips, that he forgets the bird is there at all.

The August nights are warm enough that sometimes Toudou will tug on his hand and lead him to a clearing, where they lie on their backs and gaze up at the infinite stars, arms pressed together and hands clasped tightly. Toudou’s skin glows in the silver of the moonlight, and Makishima thinks that there is so little about him in these moments that is human, and yet so very much about him that is beautiful. Some nights they kiss and kiss and kiss until the stars and the world and everything outside of their mountain ceases to exist, and then they continue kissing.

A few mornings later, Toudou is angry, and a storm shakes the mountain, thunder booming and lighting forking down, the ground soaked with the warm rain. The villagers talk about how it signals the end of summer, the coming of autumn.

The next day they sit together and eat fruit from the trees that hang heavy with it, warmed by the sun, their hands and mouths soft and sweet and sticky from the juice. Neither of them mentions the storm, or the unstoppable march of the days towards September.

On his last day in the house, Makishima closes it up. He cleans and tidies, packs away his things and shuts the windows and doors. Then he goes again to the mountain.

Toudou meets him at the edge of the forest, and together they climb to the peak, Toudou’s usual chatter silenced for once. Even the animals around them seem quieter today. When they reach the summit, Makishima stands and looks out at the hills and fields and green which surround them on all sides; the mountain full of life stretching out below them to the village, and the grey-black line of the train track which slices through the landscape. In the distance, the city waits.

They sit back to back, Makishima’s little finger hooked over Toudou’s, and talk about all the things which they cannot say while facing each other.

“I never want to leave the mountain, Jinpachi. But my life is in the city, too.”
“I always tell myself I won’t ask you to stay, and I always do it anyway. Stay.”

Makishima sighs into the early-autumn air.

“You know I can’t, Jinpachi.”
“I do.” Toudou tilts his head back against Makishima’s, looking up at the sky. “I’ve been here since long before you started coming, and I’ll still be here long after you’ve left this world. I will never move, and never leave. But this means that I’ll always be here for you to come back to, no matter how far away you go. The mountain and I will always be your home.”

They stay there for a few more hours, then, slowly, they stand and begin their descent.

The air conditioning on the train is too cold, unnatural. Makishima thinks about the friends and family, the job and the life which he is returning to, and not the one he is leaving behind. He chooses a seat which faces backwards, and watches the mountain grow smaller and smaller in his vision, until it vanishes from sight.

He pulls his jacket closer around him, and thinks about the next summer.

Oh, my heart. I love this beautiful, more mellow Toudou, still so chatty and tempestuous at times (and childish, there's something so delightfully Toudou when he presses his face into Makishima's chest), but his maturity as a god gives him so much more; I love that Makishima is distracted by him.

This was so soft and sweet. ;A;

Warnings for major spoilers right from the first sentence, and non-explicit mentions of injury. 415 words.

They walk back together from the hospital, after the final. They start out heading in the right direction, but Peco leads them in twists and turns and infinite diversions, until the sky has gone dark and the people have all gone home. Smile says nothing.

Peco always cries when he loses, yes, but today Peco cried when he won. It felt a little like Smile had finally been able to release a breath he hadn’t known he was holding. Koizumi had come forward, placed his hand on Smile’s shoulder, and said, “I’m so proud.” And Smile had watched the tears roll down Peco’s cheeks, walked to the podium and stood next to him and slightly below, and didn’t realise until his jaw started to ache that he’d been grinning the whole time.

Neither of them mention Peco’s knee, or the way he probably should be resting it, not walking (limping) around the town all night. Smile silently worries, but then again, when doesn’t he?

When the beach comes into view, Smile barely has time to think before Peco is grabbing his hand and running, pulling, tugging, (Smile always being pulled along by him), big uneven limping strides, until they’re both falling, clothes and all, into the icy evening ocean.

Smile sits up and spits out a mouthful of water. There’s a strand of seaweed hanging from his glasses.

Peco laughs and laughs, and soon Smile does too.

Eventually they sit, waist-deep in water and facing out to sea, the toes of Peco’s bright green trainers peeking out of the water every time a wave pulls back before rushing to meet them again. The water drops on Smile’s glasses make it look like there a hundred small and distorted Pecos sitting next to him, fisheyed. He takes them off, folds them carefully, and looks back, the world soft around the edges.

The salty water stings the cut on his leg (like iron, it tastes like iron), cleaning and disinfecting it. There’s an uncomfortable amount of sand in his shorts, but it is what it is. They’re here.

After they’ve sat for a while, (long enough for the cold water to numb Peco’s knee, says nobody) Peco stands, water streaming from his body, wet clothes sticking to his skin. Silhouetted in the glow of the streetlamps from the town, posing, ridiculous and triumphant, Smile thinks that he is every inch the invincible hero he’s always been.

Smile stands to meet him.

“Let’s go back.”

And they do.

When a knight won his spurs, in the stories of old,
He was gentle and brave, he was gallant and bold
With a shield on his arm and a lance in his hand,
For God and for valour he rode through the land.

No charger have I, and no sword by my side,
Yet still to adventure and battle I ride,
Though back into storyland giants have fled,
And the knights are no more and the dragons are dead.

Let faith be my shield and let joy be my steed
'Gainst the dragons of anger, the ogres of greed;
And let me set free with the sword of my youth,
From the castle of darkness, the power of the truth.

FILL: Team Akaashi Keiji/Bokuto Koutarou/Kuroo Tetsurou, T

[personal profile] kastron 2015-06-08 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
no major content warnings

wordcount: 670

Kuroo is loud.

Not in the same way that Bokuto is; he doesn’t yell, and Keiji doesn’t leave practice with his voice ringing in his head.

No.

It’s his presence. Keiji hears kuroo the second he enters a room and when he smiles at Keiji across the gym hall, Keiji fights the urge to cover his ears.

He is always aware of Kuroo, always trying to figure him out, and Kuroo is always aware of him.

Keiji fluffs a toss, and on the next court he hears Kuroo laugh. When the short spiker from Karsuno gets past one of Kuroo’s blocks Keiji raises an eyebrow where he’s standing. Kuroo doesn’t look his way, not directly, but he still flips him the bird, an Keiji finds himself isolated. He can see the game, and he knows where he’s standing, where the players are, but all he can hear is Kuroo.

Training camp ends and everyone leaves. Keiji toys idly with ideas of standing outside the Nekoma school bus, rocking on his heels, and Kuroo coming out to meet him, kissing his forehead. What happens instead is Keiji pretending not to watch as Kuroo leaps on Bokuto to say goodbye, and pretending not to see when Kuroo flashes an uncertain, wobbly grin in his direction.

He gets a text two days later. They’d exchanged numbers at 4AM in the bathroom when neither of them could sleep. That night was probably the longest conversation Keiji had had with Kuroo, and he still wasn’t sure if he’d learned anything from it.

>I’m really not romantic

That’s all it says. Keiji thinks again of waiting by the door of the school bus; of shy smiles and holding hands beneath tables; of soft, secret kisses in locker rooms.

His nose wrinkles.

>That’s not what I want.

**

Kuroo waits for Keiji after practice. Nekoma doesn’t meet as often as Fukurodani, so he’s still in uniform, just out of sight. Keiji stops when he sees him, doesn’t meet his eye.

“Are you here to see Bokuto-san?”

“No,” Kuroo says, pushing himself off the wall. “You know that.”

Keiji shrugs, and starts walking. Kuroo takes his cue and follows.

They hadn’t kissed, at 4AM in the bathroom, but they’d come close. Keiji is still thinking about Kuroo’s breath on his face, a sharp mint from the toothpaste he was using. Keiji reaches the train station, buys a ticket, and sees Kuroo doing the same thing behind him. He hasn’t said anything since they started walking, but he’s so loud, and Keiji waits for him before he boards the train.

It’s crowded, as it always is after school, and Kuroo presses against him, heat radiating from his chest. Keiji looks down, makes a comment about the commute, and Kuroo hums a light, mocking response.

Keiji’s first kiss with Kuroo is biting, in an alley between two buildings on his route home. It’s just a small gap, not enough room for people to walk down, but Kuroo crowds him in and they move closer so that they fit. Keiji’s hand is in Kuroo’s hair, his ribs crushed into Kuroo’s, and he’s stuck for air, but Kuroo’s sucking on his lower lip until it goes numb, and Keiji can’t bring himself to care about breathing. Keiji’s head hits the wall when he goes to suck on Kuroo’s neck, and Kuroo laughs even as he groans, his own head rolling back more carefully.

When they’re done, Kuroo pushes them both out, and they’re covered in dust. They brush each other down, and Kuroo’s grinning. Keiji can’t stop his own smile, but it hesitates when Kuroo suddenly frowns.

“I live miles away from here,” he says, and sighs, “I can’t believe I came this far after you for a quick make out.”

Keiji laughs, shrugs, and then speaks, cracking his knuckles in front of him.

“I’m sure my parents left enough food out for two.”
