SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES

• Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
  • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
  • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
• Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

Sometimes, you think you can categorize your life into two phases: During Baseball and After Baseball, pre-injury and post-injury.

(maybe an equally accurate division would be pre-Fukutomi and post-Fukutomi, you realize later.)

Nothing good can come after. It can’t, you initially think when it’s first facing you, a gaping and open wound where anger and hopelessness continuously fester, when you’re not sure what to do or where you should even begin. You feel alone and angry, like everything is a weight to hold you down. Like a part of you had been taken—forcibly ripped away.

But every conviction, every surefire and negative thought you had held in the immediate aftermath is soon proven wrong. They’re all torn away, broken down, when you meet Fukutomi.

You don’t really believe in silly ideas like fate and destiny, will outright dismiss them, especially when Toudou goes on and on about their existence, but sometimes you think that meeting Fukutomi on that day was an answer. That it was some sort of form of fate.

(Not that you’d ever admit that, though.)

All of the anger and uncertainty you feel, bottled up and ready to burst, does not disappear immediately. It’s definitely not some cliché story like that at all. It takes time, but Fukutomi gives you a push, gives you a newfound desire to want something. To fight. To move forward again.

Losing to him in that race on the first day you meet is kind of like a wake-up call. That’s what sparks your curiosity, is what suddenly has you doing things you’d never expected of yourself before.

For a moment, it makes you forget the gaping wound losing baseball left behind.

At first, you really don’t understand anything about Fukutomi. You don’t understand why he cares, why he bothers, why he welcomes your presence. You don’t even really understand why you’re drawn to him, why you want to follow him.

In the end, you’re glad you do, though. Fukutomi gives you something to reach for. Actually, he may be something to reach for too. He’s someone you can follow, even if that’s a thought you don’t really like admitting to initially.

They’re words you keep with you, ones you follow just like you do Fukutomi. Ones that push you to the top.
You’re able to reach places you never thought you could. You’re able to push past everything you thought was holding you down in the first place.

You’re there. You’re strong. Happy. Grateful. Fukutomi lights a fire in you that day you met, rekindles once dying flames, and now they’re stronger than ever. They will not go out.

You have a stronger faith in yourself, a stronger sense of purpose. You’ve found your place when you didn’t think you had one anymore.

And you’re not alone. Not anymore. You have teammates, friends—people you never want to let go of.

(It makes you smile thinking about it, when you decide that the After Baseball phase didn’t turn out nearly as bad as you’d initially expected… that it actually turned out pretty well.)

And then there’s Fukutomi—who you weren’t really sure about, yet followed anyway, who you don’t think you’d ever stop following. Even if it was unintentional, Fukutomi is the catalyst that drove you to the point you’re at now, the one who slowly helped mend the once large and gaping hole in your life, stitch by stitch.

You’ll never forget that. He’ll always be someone you reach for, someone you respect, someone you love.

When Fukutomi looks at you, stands beside you, holds onto you, you know that everything is worth it. That you’ve found someone who loves and cares for you, who will continue to hold onto you and not leave.

The way you stand beside and support each other, pull each other forward makes you think that maybe you’ve grown into someone worth following too,

that you can always move forward. Together.

a/n: i kind of... reversed the prompt but i hope you still like it

"Hey, Maki-chan? Can I ask you something?"

Toudou's voice is tinged with the tinny artificiality that's typical of cell phone conversations and, as usual, they're talking too loud. So loud that they keep breaking up over the shitty connection - clear, smooth alto crackling into a glitchy scramble. (Makishima should probably look into upgrading his phone plan.)

"Sure," Makishima says, shifting on his bed so that he's on his back, crossing his legs and waggling one foot idly. "I'm surprised you're asking me whether you can ask me something instead of just going ahead and asking. You're usually such a busybody, Jinpachi."

Toudou clicks their tongue, but most likely they can hear the warmth in Makishima's tone even as he berates them, so they press on without comment.

"Would it be alright if I called you Yuusuke?"

Makishima doesn't respond for several seconds.

Nobody calls him by his given name. Nobody except his family. None of his friends - not Tadokoro, not Kinjou, not Onoda - have tried to, and Makishima is fine with being Makishima, around them. But hearing his name on Toudou's lips makes his skin burn hot, makes him give into the urge to roll over and shove his face into his pillow.

He thinks of Toudou whispering it quietly, intimately, in bed in the middle of the night with dreams still clinging to them; wheezing it in pure exhaustion while they're laying on their backs in the grass on a mountain peak, looking up at the passing clouds after one of their weekend practice races; crying it out weakly as Makishima studies them with his fingertips, mapping out every inch of them and committing their topography to memory before gently, gently ripping them apart.

He thinks a million stupid romantic things and he doesn't know how to tell Toudou "no", doesn't know how to explain that he can't deal with this blinding effervescence shining its way through his body like a halation. How is he supposed to pick up Toudou's calls, compete with them at races, continue managing his reactions to them if the possibility of this is always there?

"Maki-chan?" Annoyed and demanding. "Are you still there?"

And Makishima finds his solution.

"Yeah." He re-emerges from the pillow. "I'd prefer if you didn't."

"Ehhh? Why?" Toudou whines, cajoling, but Makishima is a seasoned expert at dealing with Toudou's wheedling. "But you started calling me 'Jinpachi' just like that!"

"I'm already used to you saying 'Maki-chan', it'd feel weird if you suddenly changed. You're the only person who calls me that."

He has to hold the phone slightly away from his ear as Toudou laughs, their mood shifting as quick as the weather.

"That's right! You better not let anyone else use that nickname for you. If you did, I would know."

"Oh really? Do you have spies at Sohoku now?"

Crisis averted. Falling back into teasing banter is easy.

"No! Maki-chan, I'm serious. I'm special, right? I'm the only one who can say 'Maki-chan' because we're best rivals!"

"Special, I guess that's one way to put it," Makishima murmurs, and even that sounds like teasing, like he doesn't mean it, but he's certain that behind the wryness of his tone that Toudou can tell he's smiling.
