Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES

Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
- Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
- The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

Looking at the person laying on the beach next to him Rei felt that feeling stirring in his chest again, like all the stars in the dark sky above them were sparkling inside his chest.

Nagisa shone brighter than the full moon, their beautiful hair falling across their forehead and wisps of golden eyelashes rested on their cheeks. They were the picture of perfection and Rei had never been more in … awe of another person.

The small swimmer brought their hand over to Rei’s and linked their fingers together, Nagisa’s hands were warm and perfect - slightly cracked and rough but still perfect. It was an odd feeling, to know that everything about Rei seemed to just fit with Nagisa, they clicked, they were completely compatible…Nagisa’s fingers laced between Rei’s beautifully and when cuddling his datemate could tuck in closely and snug.

None of this was coincidental Rei was sure, although he lived by theorems and formulae there was something about Nagisa broke away from science and reason…

“Nagisa-kun… do you think it’s possible for people to be meant for one another? Like the universe had fought for them to… Be?” he asked tentatively.

Nagisa opened their eyes after a moment and looked to Rei with those bright orbs of theirs, the constellations of freckles on their cheeks reflecting those in the sky. They smiled widely, a cute pink curve and giggled softly.

“Yes, I do, Rei-chan. Why do you ask?”

Rei felt his cheeks grow warm, he was glad Nagisa hadn’t thought his idea was odd or silly. That was good. Why was he asking, Nagisa ought to know that.

“I’m just so in love with you, Nagisa.” Rei rewarded himself silently for not stuttering.

Nagisa’s eyes seemed to sparkle as they regarded Rei with a beautiful grin.

“I’m in love with my Rei-chan too, of course,” they giggled again. Nagisa gently closed the gap between the two and tapped their nose against Rei’s softly, “You’re so sweet Rei-chan! The stars willed you to be with me, I know it!!”

Rei’s blush intensified and he trained his eyes on the zig-zagged pattern of Nagisa’s sundress. “I think so too.”

Nagisa laid back down facing the navy sky above and threw their connected hands up to the stars peppering the darkness, “Thank you, Universe-san!!” Nagisa bellowed, their eyes squeezed shut.

Rei smiled at Nagisa’s antics and pressed a kiss to his datemate’s cheek before whispering to himself, “Thank you, Universe-san.”

Vague references to manga spoilers (IH2 day 1 results). 530 words.

Koga Kimitaka does not envy Teshima Junta. He is happy to provide support, to gather supplies, to repair bikes, to stand in the background where there are no reporters' cameras or microphones or questions. He would love to ride, of course. He would love to be a part of the team on the road, to contribute more tangibly to the fight for the goal. But he can see the way Teshima's shoulders droop just the slightest bit when he doesn't think the underclassmen are looking, and he knows he could never take that sort of pressure.

From the side, Teshima doesn't really look like himself. The smile is there, as it always is, easy, charming, sincere -- it doesn't stop being sincere. It isn't forced. But it's tired. There are harsh angles to his face that weren't there the year before, and lines on his forehead and under his eyes that spoke of too much thinking, not enough rest. Koga knows that as a third year, this sort of aging is common -- he sees it in himself, when he catches his reflection sometimes -- but he thinks it's different in Teshima, who still smiles, in spite of it.

He sees the captain flick his eyes towards him briefly as he approaches, though Teshima doesn't turn to him immediately. He's reviewing the times for the day's race: pages and pages of data from all the teams and all their riders. Thinking too much.

"Get some rest, Kimitaka," Teshima says, as Koga comes up beside him to glance over the charts. "Thanks for all your help today."

Koga is still distracted by the sincerity, the gratefulness, the brief smile before the look of tired concentration returns. He didn't think such pleasantness would easily come from anyone else who has ridden a hundred hard kilometers that day and been blocked at every turn, every peak, every checkpoint. He doesn't understand Teshima. He doesn't envy him. But he respects him.

"You too, Junta," Koga says. He thinks he sounds a little bit sarcastic. He smiles, but doesn't feel like it's genuine enough. He wants to tell Teshima that he looks tired, that he isn't sure what the point of that would be. Of course he looks tired. He's sure he feels tired. Behind this shield of goodness and sheer determination is someone who is aching for rest, but Koga can't find the cracks in the exterior. He puts a hand on Teshima's shoulder, then turns to leave the tent.

Teshima is captain. Koga doesn't know that he lets his guard down around anyone on the team. And even though Koga's on the sidelines for the third year in a row, holding up water bottles and supplies and yelling -- he is still part of the team. At the tent flap, Koga turns to look back at his friend. Teshima doesn't look like he did the year before, doesn't look like he did before he was captain. But the truth is he still looks very much like himself. He was always meant to be captain, and so he was always meant to look like this: all smiles and a weariness beyond his years.

Koga does envy his strength.
