Bonus Round 2: AUs
Bonus Round 2: AUs
SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
This round is made for exploration of all those "what-if?" scenarios, like "what if my favorite sports anime was actually a spaghetti western?" or "what if everything was the same except everyone was actually a car?"
This round ends at 7PM on June 27 EDT. Countdown Timer.

FILL: TEAM IWAIZUMI HAJIME/OIKAWA TOORU, G
"Please," Futakuchi says desperately, staring at a fruit-themed hair tie with much futility. "Please let me win just this once."
Futakuchi Hitomi, seven years old and already more independent than her father, sits primly at the kitchen table, hands folded on her lap and lips pursed into an unimpressed pout. This is their morning routine. Futakuchi wakes up late for work and spends an extra fifteen minutes contemplating how important it is to be present for his job before sprinting into morning preparations and burning breakfast for Hitomi.
Hitomi, on the other hand, ever the picture-perfect model of childhood discipline, waits patiently in the kitchen for her father to gets his life together.
"Papa," she says after Futakuchi's failed pigtails for the sixth time this morning alone, "maybe I'll let my hair down today?"
Futakuchi sighs faintly, maybe out of relief. "You're right, Hitomi. You're too cute for pigtails anyway. It'd be hassling for you and for me if all of the boys in your class fell in love with you."
"It's okay, papa! No need to worry," Hitomi says brightly. "I already have a boyfriend so—"
It takes very little to shake Futakuchi. He's experienced an early divorce and more than rattling things (like Kamasaki's teddy bear briefs) in the old Datekougyou changing room. But in this exact instant, Futakuchi feels a certain dread build up at the very core of his chest as Hitomi, his precious and beautiful daughter's words process at the back of his mind.
"What?" he says distantly, voice cracking in a manner reminiscent of pubescence.
"Oh no," Hitomi says quietly.
"Oh no," Futakuchi echoes.
He doesn't go overboard. Futakuchi Kenji is most definitely the poster child of cool, calm, and collected no matter what Aone or Moniwa have to say personally about the matter. It's not up for debate, which is why Hitomi is sitting quietly in the backseat of the car one suny Saturday afternoon with a dark, gloomy expression on her face.
"Papa," she starts.
"Oh no," Futakuchi says in warning. "You cannot be cute to get yourself out of this one, Futakuchi Hitomi."
"Papa," she starts again.
"Where is your boyfriend's house? Is it this one? Alright, we're parking. We're going to get out and I'm going to have a nice long chat with his parents about what it takes to date a member of our family."
"Papa," Hitomi says, a little more desperately this time.
"What's his name, Hitomi? Have you guys already started holding hands? You held my hand with the same hand you touched your boyfriend with? I'm not hurt, really. Papa's a strong guy but he's a little heartbroke—offended. He's a little offended that Hitomi was so quick to move on from wanting to marry papa, you know. I would make a great husband!"
There's a faint rapping noise against the back window and when Futakuchi turns to address it, Hitomi is a bright red and there's a boy with jet black hair and a warm smile on his face standing outside of the car.
Oh, Futakuchi thinks to himself as he pulls the keys free from the ignition and opens his door to exit the car.
Hitomi looks at him in alarm and for a very brief moment, Futakuchi softens.
"I'm not going to yell at him, Hitomi," he says, scoffing indignantly like he's very above such a thing. "I just want to make sure he understands what dating my daughter means!"
There's an incredulous, doubtful look in Hitomi's eyes but she doesn't say much more as Futakuchi steps out.
"Ah?" the little boy outside her window says vaguely. "Oh! Um! Are you Hitomi-chan's papa?"
"That's not how you greet an adult, Arata," another voice says from behind Futakuchi. "Try again."
The little boy, Arata, looks apologetic before dipping into the most rigid ninety-degree bow that Futakuchi's ever had the honor of seeing. "Hello Hitomi-chan's papa!" he says a little louder than necessary. "It's nice to meet you! My name is Ennoshita Arata!"
Arata tilts his head up, still in his bow, presumably for approval from his own father.
Approval doesn't come immediately though. Not when Futakuchi realizes that Ennoshita is an incredibly familiar name and now that he thinks about it, Arata does look like someone he knows. And when he turns around, his suspicions are confirmed 1000% as he looks none other than Karasuno's old captain, Ennoshita Chikara squarely in the eye.
"What," Futakuchi all but sputters.
Ennoshita looks taken aback too, blinking at Futakuchi with a sense of awe before offering the familiarly sleepy smile he'd wear during captains' handshake.
"Futakuchi-kun," he says, pleased, "it's been a while."
"What," Futakuchi repeats.
There's not much to say beyond that, Futakuchi realizes. He isn't sure what to say to a boy he once spent summers pursuing abstractly through obnoxious jokes and less-than-charming pick-up lines.
He laughs, maybe in disbelief.
"Ah," Ennoshita says knowingly. "You're Hitomi-chan's father, then?"
"Of course," he says proudly.
"Interesting," Ennoshita replies with a faint laugh. "I hope you didn't come to scold Arata for liking her. He's very fond of her, Futakuchi-kun."
Arata, still bowing, looks from his father to Futakuchi with confusion.
"You never called me Futakuchi-kun before," Futakuchi says instead of replying or conceding.
"Futakuchi, then," Ennoshita says with another smile. "Would you like to come in?"
On the excruciatingly long drive back, Hitomi is in a particularly good mood. It's probably because of her unplanned play date with Arata and also doubly because Ennoshita approved of their fake marriage before Futakuchi had the chance to interrupt.
"Papa," Hitomi says cheerfully.
"Yes?" Futakuchi replies, gripping the steering wheel with a vigor he didn't even realize belonged to him.
"Are you going to marry Arata-kun's papa?"
He swerves away from a last minute fire hydrant. "Absolutely not," he says quickly, because what? Him? Like Ennoshita? Sure, maybe in high school when the sleepy-eyed wing spiker used to intrigue him to no end but now? Now?
He swallows thickly and wonders how it's fair that some people can mature so well.
"Arata-kun gave me this," Hitomi says, waving a piece of paper in the backseat. Futakuchi can't make out what it is but there's a swooping feeling at the base of his stomach that is all to telling.
"I don't want it," Futakuchi says sullenly.
Hitomi pouts, before reaching forward as much as possible through her seatbelt to yank Futakuchi's cell phone free from its charger. She is adept as she breaks into her father's phone and dials a number that Futakuchi notes with dread.
"Hitomi!" Futakuchi says as sternly as he can manage. "I don't want to talk to him!" he says petulantly, ever the adult.
Hitomi sticks her tongue out at him instead, making herself seen through the rearview mirror before holding the phone to her ear.
"Oh," she says softly, two rings later, suddenly overtaken with characteristic shyness, "um... hello."
Futakuchi grits his teeth, too fixated on safe driving to let himself reach back there to take his phone back.
"Yes," Hitomi says quietly, "this is Hitomi. Um... I... um... Papa?"
She looks thoroughly overwhelmed by the prospect of talking on the phone with an adult that she barely knows now that the phone call's connected and Futakuchi sighs as he extends one arm back to accept the phone that she eagerly delegates to him.
"Hello?" he greets.
"Hello?" Ennoshita replies. "Futakuchi?"
"Yeah, sorry," Futakuchi says as mildly as he can manage. "Hitomi wanted to call you."
"Arata gave her my number? I wonder why he did that," Ennoshita says distantly, contemplatively. "Are you talking on the phone while driving? I can't multitask like that. I'm a little impressed."
"Do you even remember who I am? I'm an ace at all I do," Futakuchi says with a laugh.
"Right," Ennoshita says. "Anyway, I'm sorry. I think I scared Hitomi by answering the phone."
"It's okay," Futakuchi says quickly. "Uh, so."
"Yes?"
Hitomi is watching Futakuchi expectantly and he can tell without looking her, just by feeling the heat of her stare burning through the back of his head. Futakuchi is never anything less than charming and effortlessly sooth, but in the midst of memories and other nosy things that are making him more nervous than anything, he figures there are allowed to be exceptions in his life.
"Want to get coffee sometime?" he asks.
"Coffee?" Ennoshita repeats. "Are you asking me out on a date right now?"
"So what if I am?" Futakuchi shoots back.
Ennoshita laughs, thoroughly unruffled by Futakuchi's admittedly terrible attitude.
"I was just thinking about how funny it is that you're finally asking me out to my face, all of these years later," Ennoshita replies easily.
"What," Futakuchi says. "You knew I was flirting with you?"
"Everyone knew you were flirting with me, Futakuchi," Ennoshita says easily. "But we can talk about your embarrassing high school misadventures when we meet for coffee."
"Yes," Futakuchi replies, biting his lower lip to keep from smiling. "I guess we can."
