Bonus Round 2: AUs

Bonus Round 2: AUs

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

This round is made for exploration of all those "what-if?" scenarios, like "what if my favorite sports anime was actually a spaghetti western?" or "what if everything was the same except everyone was actually a car?"

This round ends at 7PM on June 27 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms.
  • An AU could be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [team] didn't win the Inter High in season 1, but [other team] did instead?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g.s pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

no content warnings, 800 wc.

Shiratorizawa is large and expansive and Ennoshita is almost certain he's going to get lost.

It's only his first day of his first year, and already, he feels as though he's being swallowed whole by the school, by the atmosphere, and by his fellow students swarming around club sign-ups like this is Battle Royale (which, despite being a poorly written movie, had some scattered merits).

He wonders distantly if there's a club for film. Or maybe he should consider a sport, though Ennoshita is realistic enough to know he'd never make the Volleyball Club here and he's not sure if he's willing to try and broaden his horizons by trying out for something like badminton or soccer.

He stifles a small sigh, jamming his hands into the pockets of his pants while steering himself directly away from the sign-ups and right into someone's shoulder.

"Ah!" He stumbles back and manages to right himself before he falls. "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."

When he looks up, he realizes right off the bat that he's staring at an upperclassmen just based on how thoroughly unperturbed they are by Ennoshita and the clamoring crowd in the distance. Ennoshita smiles sheepishly and scratches the back of his head, dipping his head into another halfhearted bow.

"Sorry about that," he repeats.

"It's fine," the upperclassmen responds. "New here?"

"Ah, yes. I'm a first year."

"Sports scholarship?"

"Oh, uh, no. I tested in," Ennoshita says with a faint smile. "I got in by luck, I suppose. The test was really hard."

The upperclassmen looks vaguely impressed but clears his throat to wipe any pretenses of such expression from his face. "Name?"

"Ennoshita Chikara."

"I'm Semi Eita," Semi replies. He's curt, coming across as a little more serious than the other upperclassmen Ennoshita's seen so far joking around the corridors. "You aren't signing up for anything?"

"It's nice to meet you," Ennoshita says first, "and I don't think so. Not yet, at least." He'd managed to weave through the clubs advertising themselves out in front of the school but he didn't think he'd have to deal with second-guessing himself inside too. He sighs softly.

"Why not?"

"Well, I'm not really sure what I'd join," Ennoshita explains with a weak laugh. "I'll have to think about it."

"Come to tryouts for volleyball," Semi says instead of empathizing or cutting the conversation off there. He looks a little more genuine, less stern. There's a very small smile on his face as he pats Ennoshita's shoulder. "I'll look out for you."

Semi leaves with that and Ennoshita stands idly in the center of the hallway wondering one, what just happened; and two, I should have asked him where this classroom is.

-

He doesn't make it onto the main team and Ennoshita isn't really sure what he was expecting. That's a lie—he knows he wasn't expecting to make it at all, so despite the fact that he's on a second reserve team, there's an indescribable sense of joy swelling at the very base of his chest.

There are a couple of first years who make the regular team and while Ennoshita's impressed by them, he allows his conscience to ease the reins so he can feel proud of himself, too.

"So you made it," Semi says.

Ennoshita barely notices that someone's addressing him, too fixated on life's most recent accomplishment and the dwindling state of his water bottle.

"Oi!" Semi says, sounding a little more petulant than angry. "Don't ignore me, Ennoshita!"

He blinks, craning his head to realize that Semi is standing behind him and speaking to him.

"Oh," he says softly. "Ah! I'm sorry; yes, I did." He smiles.

Semi scowls briefly before clearing his throat again, like he's preparing himself to play the role of Cool Senpai. "I knew you would," he says sagely.

"You did?" Ennoshita says with a laugh. "I'm a little honored, Semi-san."

"I got a vibe from you, Ennoshita," he says with a little more clarity. "You seem like the type who'd keep his teammates together. Like glue."

"Wow, senpai," Ennoshita says distantly. "That sounded like a line from a movie."

"Are you—are you mocking me, first year?!"

Ennoshita smiles pleasantly. "Of course not." He brightens considerably. "Thank you for encouraging me, Semi-san."

Semi looks at Ennoshita, mildly taken aback before looking away. "Yeah, yeah. I'm just being a good senpai."

"Yes," Ennoshita agrees with a nod of his head. "I look forward to supporting you on the team."

"Hey," Semi starts with a frown. "Don't say that. Say, I look forward to playing with you. I'm not asking you to support me."

"Ah."

"Say it."

"I look forward to playing with you, Semi-san," Ennoshita recites.

"Good," Semi says with an approving nod. "I expect you to catch up."
