Bonus Round 2: AUs
Bonus Round 2: AUs
SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
This round is made for exploration of all those "what-if?" scenarios, like "what if my favorite sports anime was actually a spaghetti western?" or "what if everything was the same except everyone was actually a car?"
This round ends at 7PM on June 27 EDT. Countdown Timer.
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms.
- An AU could be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [team] didn't win the Inter High in season 1, but [other team] did instead?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g.s pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
- Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

"Do you think they've figured out we're not a couple?" Makishima asks, the corner of their mouth twisting up in a wry, humorless smile.
"I don't think they give a fuck whether we're dating, married, or convicts escaped from prison," Tadokoro hisses back, spitting out the words with the force of bullets when he's pushed to keep his volume low. "I think they just care that we stole their damn flash drive, and now they want to pepper us full of holes!"
"This is intel," Makishima says, patting the drive where it's tucked against their sternum in the front of their dress. "They were always going to shoot us for it, no matter who we are. I want to know if our cover is blown."
"Our cover," Tadokoro says, "was as people who are not trying to steal foreign government secrets. They know we stole them. What part of that doesn't sound like blown?"
Somewhere across the building, there's a crash, followed by the pounding of feet. Makishima doesn't even flinch. Their back stays pressed to the wall they and Tadokoro are hiding behind, looking out across the hall with eyes just faintly narrowed. They could be sizing up the best options for escape, but Tadokoro gets the feeling that they are avoiding looking at him.
"I was only just realizing," Makishima says, speaking a little too softly. "That if our cover is blown, we'll never get to use these identities again."
"Well never use any identities again if we can't get the hell out of here," Tadokoro bluntly reminds them.
"I know," Makishima says, waving one hand dismissively. "But... I think I'll miss it."
"You... What?" Tadokoro asks.
There's another crash, and he's increasingly aware that their hiding place is becoming progressively less secure. They were only supposed to duck inside to regroup, to try and deduce whether they were not pinpointed as the thieves and to maybe, if they were exceedingly lucky, slip back into the party happening floors below as if nothing extraordinary had occurred at all. But now they're trapped. They have to have been identified, and the only recourse left is to fight their way out.
The conversation Makishima is walking them through is not leading to any good combat plans.
"Being married," Makishima says, as they turn toward Tadokoro and push away from the wall. As they do so, they pull up the skirt of their dress, sliding out the gun from its holster strapped to the inside of their thigh. "I think I'll miss that. Where will I find another husband like you, let alone one who... Understands the perils of my work environment?"
Their mouth twitches again, twisting sarcastically before they lean in to kiss Tadokoro's cheek. "I'd tell you my last words, in case we're shot full of holes and not even left time enough to bleed out, broken on the floor and murmuring to each other, but I wouldn't want to jinx it. Come on, we have a chance of escaping with this thing yet."
It occurs to Tadokoro all at once what Makishima is trying to say, and before he can stop himself he's blurting out, "I love you too."
Makishima pauses, in checking over their weapon, in stepping toward the door. Their head swivels back toward Tadokoro and for a long, silent moment they just stare at him, eyebrows drawn in together and mouth twisted so tightly that Tadokoro cannot read their expression. And then they laugh.
"Let's get out of here, Tadokorocchi," they say. "We have intel to bring home, and — something still to live for."
