Bonus Round 4: Official Art

Bonus Round 4: Official Art

This round is CLOSED. Late fills can be posted, but they won't receive points.

Memorable canon moments, bizarre omakes, tantalizing magazine spreads—this is the round to explore them all. Bring out your screencaps, promotional art, and manga pages, and let's talk about what really happened.
Please read the rules carefully before posting!

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from an anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, and/or caps from games. Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt screencaps that are taken from a piece of canon media.
  • Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
  • Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
  • Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Rated T for kissing etc.

I'm sorry for being both SouMako and MakoHaru trash.

“Ahhh, there’s food in the fridge that my mom made, so it’s edible. And I cleaned up your room a little because I couldn’t really think of anything else to do. You should probably have a bath and relax Haru. I’ll be on my way…” Makoto awkwardly rubs the back of his neck, avoiding Haru’s eyes.

“Makoto, I…” Haru looks as if he’ll cry, unable to reach out for Makoto, unable to ask him to stay.

He wants Makoto to know what it felt like to be without him.

He wants to explain all the overwhelming feelings and thoughts still swirling around his head.

He wants Makoto to stay next to him, and hold his hand again, and guide him through the mess of confusion in his head.

He wants Makoto…

It’s Makoto fault really, always knowing what’s on Haru’s mind.

Always knowing exactly what needs to be said and done.

And Haru always knows what Makoto wants.

They have always done everything together.

And Haru never wants to think about losing that closeness, of losing Makoto.

In Australia, with the ocean between them, Haru felt like his heart would break.

But it was Makoto who let go of his hand. It was Makoto who called Rin, instead of coming to Haru himself.

Makoto was the one who pushed Haru away.

The distance between them seemed to expand unreachably in the span of one heartbreaking night.

How could he tell Makoto that the reason he was afraid of moving on was because he did not want to be without his best friend?

And Makoto had gone ahead and made the decision for them both, without asking him anything.

It scared him that there were parts of Makoto he didn’t know at all.

It frightened him to his core that Makoto was capable of imagining a life without him.

Because to him, the idea of being without his Makoto is unfathomable.

It is alien to his very being, and he feels nauseous when he thinks about staying in Iwatobi, or going to Australia or anywhere else in the world where Makoto is not by his side.

His night in Australia was spent twisting and turning in bed next to a soundly sleeping Rin, thinking about the moment Makoto let go of his hand.

But the words Makoto said as the sky lit up with fireworks, and the hurt in his eyes, meant something else entirely.

Haru thinks about having to let Makoto go once more, and it sends his mind spiralling into a cold darkness.

He hugs himself instinctively, reeling a little from the icy feeling in the pit of his stomach.

When he looks up, Makoto’s eyes are focused on him, filled with unspoken concern. His gaze burns a hole right through the core of heart, as if they can see everything.

If those honest eyes, green as the first leaves of spring, keep looking at Haru, he will surely drown in them.

Haru finds himself closing the distance between himself and Makoto, feels his hands reaching up for Makoto’s face and placing them in front of the beautiful pair of green eyes that have haunted his every moment since he last saw them, with fireworks reflected in their limpid depths.

“H-Haru?” Makoto’s confusion seeps through the space between them, infecting them both.

The urge inside Haru is too overpowering, and his body is already miles ahead of his mind, leaving his reason in shambles.

It feels like Makoto is so much taller than Haru.

It’s so hard to take that pale face between his hands and draw those soft, pink lips closer.

Makoto’s lips have always held a fascination for Haru.

Back in school, Haru often found himself drawing rough sketches of eyes and lips in the margins of his notebooks, and realized that they all resembled Makoto’s features.

He wants to taste them now, to see Makoto’s eyes up close, to see himself reflected in their glistening green mirrors.

When their lips meet, Haru feels Makoto’s skin heat up.

It’s awkward at first, bumping lips together, but Haru refuses to let go, standing on his tiptoes, his thin fingers twisting firmly in locks of Makoto’s hair.

Makoto smells like the comfort of home- the scent of his cherry blossom shampoo invades Haru’s senses and he cannot help but want more.

Haru's small tongue escapes his thin lips and traces the outline of Makoto’s mouth.

Makoto moans involuntarily, opening up to Haru.

He tastes like matcha mixed with honey. And a hint of chocolate.

It’s the sweetest, purest taste Haru has ever savored.

It is Haru’s first kiss, and he knows that Makoto has never been kissed before either.

All of Makoto’s firsts belong to Haru, and no one else.

He will not give Makoto up, he will not be parted from his best friend, from the boy he loves the most.

Nothing will come between them again.

It’s amazing how
Voices
can easily change the meaning
of any word

A change in tone
or pitch
or VoLuMe
can make ‘A’
seem like ‘Z’

It’s amazing how
Your voice
changes so many words
and how you never seem to
Say
what you really mean

It’s amazing that
coming from You
“Welcome Home”
sounds a lot like
“I’m sorry”
and
“I love you”

So I’ll say it right back
in as close to
Your Voice
as I can

“Welcome Home”

Australia was strange. Foreign. Haru supposed that was the point—after all, Australia was a foreign place. Everything was English and unfamiliar people and expensive hotel rooms, and he knew it would be different the instant that Rin had shoved a boarding pass into his hands.

It was the place Rin had called home once, but Haru never had.

He guessed he could take it in stride, and learn while he was here.

The olympic pool was big, and Haru immediately wanted to swim it. Water was water no matter where he went, and the cooling sensation against his back was a familiarity he desired at the moment.

Even in the water though, something felt different. Something felt off, and Haru couldn’t place his finger on it.

At night, he dreamt of Makoto. His mind played variation of the same scene, of their night breaking apart under fireworks, and the scathing words they exchanged with each other. Whenever Haru woke, he could feel the warmth of Makoto’s hand around his wrist.

When the bleariness of sleep went away, Haru was reminded that he was kilometers away from Japan, and there was no Makoto to take him out of the bathtub and chat with him on the way to school. He had Rin, and he liked Rin, but at times Rin was unnecessarily chatty and forceful and sometimes Haru wanted to get away from that.

Haru rubbed his eyes awake as Rin chucked some clothes at him and announced where they would go for the day, another set of places Haru didn’t know at all.

Homesickness settled in after he had found his dream, when the focus of this trip had been fulfilled. When Haru was allowed to think.

He wanted to be able to eat mackerel freely again without Rin lecturing him about his food choices. He wanted to sit in the warm tub with his swimsuit on in the privacy of his own home, with Makoto coming by a bit later to remind him that a life outside of water existed. He wanted to be with Nagisa, Rei, and Kou—but most of all, he wanted to be with Makoto.

It felt empty, Haru thought, to be without someone who had been with you practically every day of your life.

But he thought back to their fight—the first time he had ever seen Makoto snap like thought—and thought that maybe this was something he would have to get used to. He hoped not.

Makoto was there at the airport when he and Rin arrived. Of course he was, but Haru felt something fly off his shoulders nonetheless as he stepped forward.

Haru watched as Makoto blinked before that trademark smile graced his lips, and he said, “welcome home.”

Inhaling quietly, Haru felt something in his chest lurch forward a little. He was home, with everything he wanted, with everything he was familiar with, with everyone he wanted. He was home.

After looking away momentarily, Haru turned back to Makoto, feeling a need to say something for once.

“Thanks.”

this is a canon divergence ending of my own fic (haha) but also inspired by this prompt, especially to fit into canon better! thank you for the inspiration :)

He is waiting for them at the airport. Haruka's heart leaps, and he tries to still it - he remembers saying I love you, remembers the easy sound of Makoto's voice as he said it back. That was last night - less than twelve hours ago. And now Makoto is standing here, in bigger and taller than Haruka remembers, and it feels like ages since the last time Haruka had seen him.

Ages since their fight.

Around them, the airport bustles with sound and movement. Rin is next to Haruka, watching him carefully.

Haruka wishes he could be like Rin, greet Makoto like it's nothing. Wishes he could be like Rin and his host family in Australia, even though Rin had come back to Japan kind of fucked up anyway. But he's here now and grins wide at Makoto, bringing him in for a hug, even though Haruka has seen, talked to Makoto more recently.

Haruka feels too small in his black hoodie. But inside him, something big and warm expands in his chest - the thought of not leaving Makoto again, not needing to, not having that push that he's been feeling for the past few weeks. It dissipates.

Makoto smiles at him, and says, "Welcome home." His green eyes are bright, watery maybe.

Haruka swallows the lump at the back of his throat. He shakes his head as imperceptibly as he can.

"Thanks," he says, and his voice feels dry.

"Oh my god," comes Rin's voice from the side. They both turn to look at him, kind of surprised, but Rin just rolls his eyes dramatically.

"What is it, Rin?" Makoto asks.

Haruka can see it in Rin's eyes, like he wants to tell them to kiss already or something. Rin's like that.

"Nothing," Rin grumbles. He shoves his suitcase into Makoto's arms. "Come on, carry this for me."

"Okay." Makoto looks amused as he takes Rin's things, dropping them to the ground and wheeling them. He glances at Haruka like he expects Haruka to have a comment - Haruka doesn't, just watches the two of them.

Rin mutters something to himself and starts off, leading them out of the airport. Makoto hangs back instead of trying to follow him close by, angling a smile at Haruka like he thinks he needs to hide it. Anywhere else, and Haruka could still spot it a mile away.

"You called me pretty late last night," Makoto says to him.

Haruka shrugs. "You're here even though you picked up last night," he replies.

Makoto laughs to himself. "That's true," he says. "I wanted to see you as soon as you touched down, though."

"You couldn't have, I was in the plane."

Makoto laughs again. He bumps Haruka's shoulder with his own, warm and firm. Haruka thinks, this is when it's going to happen, even though he doesn't know what it is, even though all Makoto does is meet his gaze in the tinny crowd, enough to fill the emptiness and the coldness Haruka has been feeling for the past week.

Haruka goes, "Makoto." He stops in the middle of the floor.

Makoto turns around. "Haru?" he says, an edge of worry in his voice.

Haruka leans up on his tiptoes. There's some space to bridge, but Haruka gets there, reaches across the both of them, to peck Makoto on the mouth. Makoto makes a startled noise, but Haruka draws himself back.

"That's for," Haruka says, and then pauses in thought. "A lifetime."

Makoto's cheeks are pink and he's looking at Haruka a little wide-eyed. "A lifetime?"

"For," Haruka swallows. "Everything."

This time, Makoto pulls Haruka in, first by the arms and then by the face. His lips are a bit rough against Haruka's - Haruka hadn't even noticed at first - but he kisses gentle, soft, like he's afraid Haruka will break at any second. Haruka presses back more eagerly this time, accidentally dragging his tongue out, licking at Makoto's bottom lip. Makoto gasps into his mouth.

"That's also," says Makoto, when they have separated again. "For everything."

Haruka pauses for a second. And then he smiles, a brightness filling his chest, his throat and someplace behind his eyes.

That brightness is Makoto.

"We should go," he says to Makoto, and Makoto is jerked out of - his thoughts, his daze, whatever it is he's been doing for the past few seconds.

"Oh," Makoto says. He smiles, big. "Yes."

He rests a hand at Haruka's back, between his shoulder blades. Haruka is not afraid to settle into it, to turn to his side for someone. He knows Makoto will be there.
