Bonus Round 4: Official Art

Bonus Round 4: Official Art

This round is CLOSED. Late fills can be posted, but they won't receive points.

Memorable canon moments, bizarre omakes, tantalizing magazine spreads—this is the round to explore them all. Bring out your screencaps, promotional art, and manga pages, and let's talk about what really happened.
Please read the rules carefully before posting!

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from an anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, and/or caps from games. Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt screencaps that are taken from a piece of canon media.
  • Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
  • Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
  • Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Australia was strange. Foreign. Haru supposed that was the point—after all, Australia was a foreign place. Everything was English and unfamiliar people and expensive hotel rooms, and he knew it would be different the instant that Rin had shoved a boarding pass into his hands.

It was the place Rin had called home once, but Haru never had.

He guessed he could take it in stride, and learn while he was here.

The olympic pool was big, and Haru immediately wanted to swim it. Water was water no matter where he went, and the cooling sensation against his back was a familiarity he desired at the moment.

Even in the water though, something felt different. Something felt off, and Haru couldn’t place his finger on it.

At night, he dreamt of Makoto. His mind played variation of the same scene, of their night breaking apart under fireworks, and the scathing words they exchanged with each other. Whenever Haru woke, he could feel the warmth of Makoto’s hand around his wrist.

When the bleariness of sleep went away, Haru was reminded that he was kilometers away from Japan, and there was no Makoto to take him out of the bathtub and chat with him on the way to school. He had Rin, and he liked Rin, but at times Rin was unnecessarily chatty and forceful and sometimes Haru wanted to get away from that.

Haru rubbed his eyes awake as Rin chucked some clothes at him and announced where they would go for the day, another set of places Haru didn’t know at all.

Homesickness settled in after he had found his dream, when the focus of this trip had been fulfilled. When Haru was allowed to think.

He wanted to be able to eat mackerel freely again without Rin lecturing him about his food choices. He wanted to sit in the warm tub with his swimsuit on in the privacy of his own home, with Makoto coming by a bit later to remind him that a life outside of water existed. He wanted to be with Nagisa, Rei, and Kou—but most of all, he wanted to be with Makoto.

It felt empty, Haru thought, to be without someone who had been with you practically every day of your life.

But he thought back to their fight—the first time he had ever seen Makoto snap like thought—and thought that maybe this was something he would have to get used to. He hoped not.

Makoto was there at the airport when he and Rin arrived. Of course he was, but Haru felt something fly off his shoulders nonetheless as he stepped forward.

Haru watched as Makoto blinked before that trademark smile graced his lips, and he said, “welcome home.”

Inhaling quietly, Haru felt something in his chest lurch forward a little. He was home, with everything he wanted, with everything he was familiar with, with everyone he wanted. He was home.

After looking away momentarily, Haru turned back to Makoto, feeling a need to say something for once.

“Thanks.”
